The 24-year-old paint store clerk Lee DeWyze was crowned as winner of American Idol Season 9, defeating soulful Crystal Bowersox. His victory was based on the votes after Tuesday’s performances, which drew more acclaim from the judges for Bowersox, though DeWyze was Simon Cowell’s favorite among the two finalist.
"This is an amazing experience, especially since this has been such a long process," says Lee. "It's been a lot harder than I thought it would be."
When Lee was asked by host Ryan Seacrest how he felt, an emotional DeWyze said, "I don't know. It's amazing, thank you guys, so much ... I love you. Crystal, I love you."
