Elizabeth Edwards, a lawyer, author and activist and estranged wife of democratic former vice-presidential candidate and North Carolina senator John Edwards died peacefully Tuesday morning, December 7, 2010 at her Chapel Hill, North Carolina home surrounded by her family and friends.Elizabeth Edwards died at the age of 61 after battling breast cancer for six years which was diagnosed in the last days of the 2004 campaign.
According to a statement released by the family, "Today we have lost the comfort of Elizabeth’s presence but she remains the heart of this family," the statement said. "We love her and will never know anyone more inspiring or full of life."
