I am a fan of Dilip Kumar, so yes it has been difficult for me to notice Raj Kapoor. But this man was good-looking at one time. He gave very beautiful messages in his movies & his songs were meaningful as well.
In Satyam Shivam Sundaram, he convinced you that truth, no matter how obnoxious it maybe, is beautiful. Fine. Zeenat Aman exposed like anything, but I’d say that the movie has weight. You can’t miss the message Raj Kapoor was trying to convey to the world. Again in Prem Rog, he tried to educate people about all those traditions that kill humanity. The hero questions the norms that snatch away the right of humanity from humans & how the society doesn’t allow people to live if they are not following those man-made rules & norms.
Chori Chori was loads of fun whereas in Sangam it would have been far better if Raj Kapoor had died rather than the other guy. The songs were amazing. I loved that one teray dil kay pass hee hai meri manzil-e-maqsood. I have only seen bits & pieces of Mera Naam Joker & I have no intention of watching that movie.
Some of his songs are really very meaningful. For instance: ‘duniya wohee, duniya walay wohee, koi kya janay kis ka jahan lut gaya.’
We’ve heard so much about his affair with Nargis & that he didn’t marry her for a variety of reasons. And yes when I think about all of this, he sounds more like a wicked ghoulish man. He also had an affair with Vyjayantimala.
Anyhow, for a long time I was quite inspired by this line: ‘Kisi kay wastay ho teray dil mein pyaar, jeena isi ka naam hai.’
And I guess his kids & grandchildren are no doubt very talented actors. They have got acting in their blood. And his brother Shashi Kapoor is the best thing in the Kapoor family By the way, Raj Kapoor appeared in the movie for the 1st time at the age of 9. The song mera joota hai Japani is still very popular.
Raj Kapoor had received many awards throughout his career, including 9 Filmfare Awards and 19 nominations. The Government of India honoured him with the Padma Bhushan in 1971 and the Dadasaheb Phalke Award in 1987 - the highest award for cinematic excellence in India. In 2001, he was honoured with “Best Director of the Millennium” by Stardust Awards. He was named “Showman of the Millennium” by Star Screen Awards in 2002.
