Earthquake in New Zealand

A 6.3-magnitude earthquake has rocked New Zealand city of Christchurch on Tuesday at 12:51pm and killed atleast 65 people. Pyne Gould financial services building has collapsed and rescuers picked through rubble to find people trapped in toppled buildings.

According to Department of Foreign Affairs there are eight Filipinos in New Zealand who were trapped under the rubble of a hospital that also collapsed.

The earthquake had a central depth of 5 kilometers and was 10 kilometers southwest of Christchurch. Police say major fatalities are expected, involving office workers, local residents and tourists. Electricity and water has been disconnected.Phone lines were down and Christchurch airport was temporarily closed.


A 5.7-magnitude aftershock hit at 1:04 p.m, and aftershocks were still continuing.
This earthquake happens to be one of the worst disaster in the nation’s history and New Zealand's darkest day.
