Push to Pass button - Cars have a new gadget called "push-to-pass" and it works almost exactly as it sounds. It is connected with the engine’s timing. This system allows the power plant to surge from 10,300 revolutions per minute to 10,500 revolutions per minute within 18 seconds. Drivers have differing opinions on how much impact it will have on the race.
The "push-to-pass " button made its debut at Kentucky Speedway last August, but will be used for the first time at Indianapolis in today’s race. Drivers have not tested the button at Indy and will get their first chance.
Each driver can use the button up to 15 times during the race.
The combination of an extra boost of speed and power, more drafting and tighter racing means Indy's fast speeds could get even quicker.
