Senator Robert Byrd: West Virginia Senator Robert C. Byrd died. Senator Robert Byrd died at the age of 92, after being hospitalized in serious condition. The senator was hospitalized last week for exhaustion and dehydration, but his condition worsened.Family Spokesman Jesse Jacobs said that Byrd died peacefully at about 3 a.m. at Inova Hospital in Fairfax, Va.
Robert Byrd was the longest serving Senator in U.S. history. He was first elected in Senate 1958 and he is the only person ever elected to nine full terms.
