Cholera Outbreak in Haiti

Cholera Outbreak: Haiti President Rene Preval said Friday that an outbreak of cholera occurred in the regions devastated by the earthquake, and atleast 135 people have died.



Another 1,526 cases are also part of the outbreak, said Imogen Wall, Spokeswoman for the U.N. humanitarian in Haiti. All the cases have been reported in the rural Artibonite region, she said. Aid groups are rushing medicines and other supplies Friday to fight Haiti's deadly health problem since its devastating earthquake. Early treatment for cholera is necessary and important because it can kill within hours if not treated.
