Well had they discovered a cure for HIV/AIDS, I would have been more happy. Since I personally know this disease, I think just like meds that make you an addict, this ‘gene fix too can have serious problems in the long run. As it is, they are not sure about the side-effects. No doubt it’s a major break through. But can you actually allow the doctor to inject that sort of a thing? Doctors just recommend official drugs & patients become addicts. It’s far more difficult to deal with depression when you’re on meds. When you don’t take meds, you can handle the situation in a far better way.
I was just a teenager when these god-damn tranquilizers & sedatives were recommended for my treatment. I took them more than 10 years & by the time, I was 26, I was an addict who couldn’t live without them. It was difficult to get rid of this habit. Besides getting rid of these meds, I had to get rid of people who caused me trouble & headaches. I had to make choices that no one understood.
You can’t educate people & tell them it’s not weakness on the part of the patient. It’s like any other disease & it’s a pity that it’s not treated as one. Some people call the patients mad & some people call them selfish. And psychotic people weigh the faith of these patients in a balance. As I have said a zillion times…if you haven’t lived someone’s life, then you don’t know why a person decides to kill himself or herself…just don’t judge them. In fact people don’t have the right to judge anyone. However, people who don’t know anything about this illness have strange kinds of opinions. Maybe it’s about time we must say to them: It’s good to know you’re so insensitive & inhuman, because this doesn’t touch your life.
And I seriously wonder what would be their opinion if their own child ends up taking his life.
