Super Typhoon Juan

As of 11:00pm - October 18,Monday(Manila Time) Super Typhoon "Juan" (International Name- "Megi") was located at 90 km West-Northwest of Baguio City (16.8°N, 119.8°E) with maximum sustained winds of 160 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 195 kph.

Typhoon Juan made landfall in the province of Isabella, exactly in Divilacan Peak, Monday at 11:24am and two people were reportedly killed.


It is called a "Super Typhoon" as the Weather Bureau is comparing Typhoon Juan to Typhoon Ondoy that hit Metro Manila last year. Typhoon Juan is the 10th and strongest typhoon to hit the country this year and according to PAG-ASA, around 20 to 21 storms hit the country every year.


A warning advisory was issued by PAGASA advising the public to take necessary precautions especially those in the lower areas. Sunday- October 17,authorities began evacuating thousands of residents in weak and defenseless areas and they are advised to evacuate especially if they are near the seas where possible tidal waves may occur.



Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration placed Cagayan and Isabela provinces under signal number 4, the highest since 2006 when typhoon "Reming" killed more than 700 people and damaged properties worth over P5 billion.
