The Interim Committee (IC) of Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) is said to have strongly opposed to the ‘bonus’ payment which all its employees received soon after the ICC Cricket World Cup 2011.
The total amount estimated at 14.5 million Sri Lankan rupees has been distributed among the staff of SLC regardless of their contribution or involvement at the ICC CWC 2011.
Some employees who even did not sight the SLC office or the World Cup venues have been paid lavishly according to informed sources.
“It was not about the amount that was granted as bonus but it is the way things were preceded that came under heavy questioning,” an employee said.
The Acting Chairman of IC, Eshana de Silva however revealed that his entire committee has strongly stood against the decision to pay a big bonus which was improperly divided among its employees.
“There is a big question mark on this issue as to who approved the payment,” de Silva asked.
However responding quickly to question, SLC Secretary, Nishantha Ranatunga revealed that it was the chief of SLC who approved the payment.
“There’s nothing to hide about as we have done and will do continue to work in a transparent manner. But it was the Chairman of SLC, DS de Silva who approved the payment,” he said.
Ranatunga further went on to say that an investigation being conducted on the issue.
“We will access things and come up with a verdict very soon.”
De Silva meanwhile revealed that he was under the impression that SLC had too many corrupted employees before he appointed to the IC few months ago.
“If you calculate almost every institution in Sri Lanka is corrupted but SLC was not too bad as I thouthg,” de Silva said.
