Commissioner Bud Selig said it was expected that Citi Field and the New York Mets will eventually be announced as hosts for the 2013 All-Star Game.
"I'd say their chances look pretty good," Selig said Tuesday.
Major League Baseball has yet to formally announce the site of any games beyond 2012 in Kansas City.
New York last played host to an All-Star Game in 2008, in the final season at old Yankee Stadium.
Major League Baseball's plan was to celebrate the closing of that historic ballpark by awarding the Yankees a game, then return to New York once the Mets' new ballpark opened. Citi Field debuted in 2009.
The Mets have played host to one All-Star Game -- in the inaugural season at former home Shea Stadium, on July 7, 1964. The National League won that game with a four-run ninth inning that included a game-ending, three-run homer by Johnny Callison off Dick Radatz.
