Bin Laden wife 6 years spent in hideout

Bin Laden wife 6 years spent in hideout

One of three wives living with Osama bin Laden told Pakistani interrogators she had been staying in the al-Qaida chief's hideout for five years, and could be a key source of information about how he avoided capture for so long, a Pakistani intelligence official said Friday.

In its first confirmation of bin Laden's death, al-Qaida warned of retaliation in an Internet statement, saying Americans' "happiness will turn to sadness."

Bin Laden's wife, identified as Yemeni-born Amal Ahmed Abdullfattah, said she never left the upper floors of the house the entire time she was there.

She and bin Laden's other two wives are being interrogated in Pakistan after they were taken into custody following Monday's American raid on bin Laden's compound in the town of Abbottabad. Pakistani authorities are also holding eight or nine children who were found there after the U.S. commandos left.

Given shifting and incomplete accounts from U.S. officials about what happened during the raid, testimony from bin Laden's wives may be significant in unveiling details about the operation.
Their accounts could also help show how bin Laden spent his time and managed to stay hidden, living in a large house close to a military academy in a garrison town, a two-and-a-half hours' drive from the capital, Islamabad.

The Pakistani official said CIA officers had not been given access to the women in custody. Already tense military and intelligence relations between the United States and Pakistan have been further strained after the helicopter-borne raid, which many Pakistanis see as a violation of their country's sovereignty.
The proximity of bin Laden's hideout to the military garrison and the Pakistani capital has also raised suspicions in Washington that bin Laden may have been protected by Pakistani security forces while on the run.

Compound where Osama was found

Compound where Osama was found

US forces finally found al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden not in the rugged mountains of Afghanistan's border, but in a million-dollar compound, with his youngest wife, U.S. officials said early on Monday.

They were led to the fortress-like three-story building after more than four years tracking one of bin Laden's most trusted couriers, whom U.S. officials said was identified by men captured after the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks.

"Detainees also identified this man as one of the few al Qaeda couriers trusted by bin Laden. They indicated he might be living with or protected by bin Laden," a senior administration official said in a briefing for reporters.

Bin Laden was finally found -- more than 9-1/2 years after the 2001 attacks on the United States -- after authorities discovered in August 2010 that the courier lived with his brother and their families in an unusual and extremely high-security building, officials said.

"When we saw the compound where the brothers lived, we were shocked by what we saw: an extraordinarily unique compound," a senior administration official said.

"The bottom line of our collection and our analysis was that we had high confidence that the compound harbored a high-value terrorist target. The experts who worked this issue for years assessed that there was a strong probability that the terrorist who was hiding there was Osama bin Laden," another administration official said.
The home is in Abbotabad, a town about 35 miles (60 km) north of Islamabad.

The building, about eight times the size of other nearby houses, sat on a large plot of land that was relatively secluded when it was built in 2005. When it was constructed, it was on the outskirts of Abbotabad's center, at the end of a dirt road, but some other homes have been built nearby in the six years since it went up, officials said.

WALLS TOPPED WITH BARBED WIRE

Intense security measures included 12- to 18-foot (3.6 meters to 5.5 meters) outer walls topped with barbed wire and internal walls that sectioned off different parts of the compound, officials said. Two security gates restricted access, and residents burned their trash, rather than leaving it for collection as did their neighbors, officials said.

Few windows of the three-story home faced the outside of the compound, and a terrace had a seven-foot (2.1 meter) privacy wall, officials said.

"It is also noteworthy that the property is valued at approximately $1 million but has no telephone or Internet service connected to it," an administration official said. "The brothers had no explainable source of wealth."

U.S. analysts realized that a third family lived there in addition to the two brothers, and the age and makeup of the third family matched those of the relatives -- including his youngest wife -- they believed would be living with bin Laden.

"Everything we saw, the extremely elaborate operational security, the brothers' background and their behavior and the location of the compound itself was perfectly consistent with what our experts expected bin Laden's hide-out to look like," another Obama administration official said.

A small U.S. team conducted a helicopter raid on the compound on Sunday afternoon, officials said. After 40 minutes of fighting, bin Laden and an adult son, one unidentified woman and two men -- identified as the courier and his brother -- were dead, officials said, and Obama was preparing a television address to the nation.

The War On Terrorism Will Continue Even When Osama Is Gone!

Ok I woke up to hear this absolutely unbelievable news – Osama Bin Laden is dead. All the local and international channels are running their special transmission on Osama Bin Laden’s termination.

There is this never ending repetition of a speech by Osama’s brother – Obama Bin Barrack that America was able to kill Osama under a military operation under his direct orders in Abbottabad – Pakistan. The American special security officers had confirmed news that Osama was hiding in that compound for quite some time.

Apparently, it was the perfect time for Obama to conduct this military operation and finish off their very own CIA agent, Osama now. Yes, interesting thing is that the US elections are very near and for Americans this could be a huge victory that Obama managed to kill the Al-Qaeda leader. Otherwise, Obama has been a disgusting president who did nothing constructive for the US or the world in all these years.

The critics and analysts, however, feel that there is a question mark if Obama will be re-elected because he will be judged on how the US economy performed in his tenure rather than the national security platform. But can we forget that Bush was re-elected also when he ended up capturing Saddam Hussein. But many smart Americans feel that it is fishy that it took USA such a long time to finally get Osama is shocking. Most of the Arabian and Muslim countries are quiet as they feel there will be retaliation from Taliban.

However, I am with Musharraf as he spoke this morning that killing Osama is just a victory in a big battle but the war on terrorism will continue and smart measures need to be taken to handle the retaliation. As it is, Osama did his work by creating huge pockets of trained warriors in the form of Taliban and they are scattered in plenty around the world. Thus, I don’t feel the world is safer with Osama’s death.

Also the fact, that they just buried his body in the sea is quite peculiar. It only raises eye brows. Perhaps they never killed him and have kept him in a dark cell or have told him that he did his job well and now he can enjoy the rest of his life in an exotic island with another identity. As it is, as per the famous conspiracy theory, Osama was only the creation of USA to enter territories that it could not easily enter.

Thus, the war on terrorism will continue. Taliban will retaliate. Pakistan itself will remain under fire. Our lowly President and Prime Minister didn’t even have the ball to conduct the operations with Pakistani soldiers, instead the entire operation was carried out by US military on our soil. Today, is not a peaceful day for Pakistan. City situations are tough, there are traffic jams, mobile phones are jammed. All the shops and commercial areas have been closed already in fear. Anyway, this is mostly due to local issues between two political parties.

For us life was not secured and life is not secured with or without Osama.

Osama bin Laden is dead

Osama bin Laden is dead

Osama bin Laden, the face of global terrorism and architect of the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks, was killed in a firefight with elite American forces Monday, then quickly buried at sea in a stunning finale to a furtive decade on the run.
Long believed to be hiding in caves, bin Laden was tracked down in a costly, custom-built hideout not far from a Pakistani military academy. The stunning news of his death prompted relief and euphoria outside the White House and around the globe, yet also fears of terrorist reprisals against the United States and its allies.
"Justice has been done," President Barack Obama said in a dramatic announcement at the White House.
The military operation took mere minutes, and there were no U.S. casualties.

U.S. helicopters ferried troops from Navy SEAL Team Six, a top military counter-terrorism unit, into the compound identified by the CIA as bin Laden's hideout — and back out again in less than 40 minutes. Bin Laden was shot in the head, officials said, after he and his bodyguards resisted the assault.
Three adult males were also killed in the raid, including one of bin Laden's sons, whom officials did not name. One of bin Laden's sons, Hamza, is a senior member of al-Qaida. U.S. officials also said one woman was killed when she was used as a shield by a male combatant, and two other women were injured.
The U.S. official who disclosed the burial at sea said it would have been difficult to find a country willing to accept the remains. Obama said the remains had been handled in accordance with Islamic custom, which requires speedy burial.
"I heard a thundering sound, followed by heavy firing. Then firing suddenly stopped. Then more thundering, then a big blast," said Mohammad Haroon Rasheed, a resident of Abbottabad, Pakistan, after the choppers had swooped in and then out again.
