Farewell Davis!

The inevitable has taken place. I had stopped reporting on the Davis case and was waiting for this final update. Thus, although things were already cooking quietly even the media got the news quite late just when the authorities decided to break the news to public.

Raymond Davis (CIA agent), who killed 2 Pakistani citizens in January in Lahore has been released after the payment of blood money to the families of the dead boys. Payment of blood money is in accordance with the Shariah Law.

It has been said that the relatives were forced to sign for blood money documents so that Davis could be released. Anyhow, none of the relatives were available to comment.

However, it is all useless now. According to reports the family members have forgiven Davis for the murder of their sons. They have taken the compensation money. TV reports say 19 crore rupees were given in compensation to the families and most probably they will be given US visas as well.

Davis has already been sent to Kabul, Afghanistan to meet up with his US officials. Thus, this case has been resolved. American has saved its guy! While Pakistan has received the "Shameless Nation Award" once again!

Raymond Davis Is A CIA Contractor

I am honestly a bit bored of Raymond Davis now but since I was covering this story I will write till this episode is over. So the latest update is that Raymond Davis is an undercover CIA contractor as confirmed by the Pakistani intelligence officials.

They say that there is no doubt that he was working with CIA as a contractor. The Pakistani intelligence officers are pretty sure that Raymond was doing things that were not in the best interest of the national security of Pakistan. It is said that he had close links with Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP). He was part of a team that was conducting surveillance on militant groups inside Pakistan. They also believe Davis was masterminding terrorist activities in different parts of Pakistan and was recruiting young people from Punjab for the Taliban. The cellphone records show that Davis had links with 33 Pakistanis of which 27 were militants from TTP and Lashkar-e-Jhangvi.

According to more updates, it was during Musharraf's time in 2006 when a deal was cracked that allowed USA to conduct CIA operations in Pakistan so that they would know that Pakistan was not helping Taliban insurgents in anyway. As per this deal, Raymond Davis' job was to trail links of the Taliban and Al Qaeda in different parts of Pakistan but instead it was discovered that he had developed close ties with the TTP.

USA is now worried about global issues like Tunisia, Libya and Talibans spreading on a wider scale but it still wants Davis to be released soon.

On the other hand, there are reports on how the government is putting pressure on the victims families to withdraw the case while the religious political parties are pressurizing them to not let it go. There will be no espionage case against Davis but he will be tried for the double murders case.

Davis Case Updates - The Twist

The way Raymond Davis case was going, it was quite evident that this incredibly obvious case would ultimately be twisted and taken into completely different directions. Although, who would possibly have doubt in understanding that the American did in fact kill two people who didn't threaten him in anyway. A bystander died miserably for no reason by a few people in a car that came see that Davis stayed secured and well protected after killing two common Pakistanis. And then the suicide committed by the young wife of one of the men killed by Davis in protest against government's political change in attitude that would set Davis free.

Anyhow, now for the record US Senator John Kerry after his short visit to Pakistan regarding the Davis case things are taking another turn. It is being noticed that there is shift in the US stance from talking about diplomatic immunity to now blood money and compensation. Pakistan's government is worried that bad ties with US would mean heavy losses in aid of many forms, which is why they are suggesting low measures.

Thus, now it is quite possible that US might apologize for the incident and would pay compensation to the heirs of the victims. Our puppet Prime Minister, Yousuf Raza Gilani was the one who urged US to tackle the case by thinking about the family members of those killed and the sentiments of the people of Pakistan who want justice.

On the other hand, it is reported that the all the families of the three victims have unanimously agreed on not accepting any compensation. They want death sentence for Davis. In fact, one of the victim's family refused to meet American Senator John Kerry who wanted to grief on the death of the young man.

It is so strange that such a big nation like America can't support justice in this case and are going mad to release a man who did in fact commit  crime, which is so obvious. He did kill two men for no reason. Because of him another man died on the road. Indirectly, because of him a young girl who was expecting her first child also committed suicide. It is unfair the way this case is being handled. How can money compensate human life?

Davis Case Updates - He Enjoys Immunity

Fauzia Wahab - Miss Parrot

Now that Shah Mehmood Qureshi is out of the picture and who was adamant on the fact that Davis didn't have the right to get diplomatic immunity - things are obviously very different today.

Pakistani government is on its knees and Fauzia Wahab is talking ridiculously like a parrot. She is a strange character who seems to be ignorant of everything that has happened and on almost everything she talks about but she goes on saying things like a fool nevertheless.

So now she appears on screen and conveniently says that Raymond Davis actually enjoys diplomatic immunity under the Vienna Convention and since Pakistan is a signatory of the convention there is no reason why we should not follow the rules. The lady went on to say that she couldn't understand why was there an issue in the first place because Davis has a business visa and is a technical staff of the embassy (And whatever happened to his identity crisis? Fauzia Wahab must  be cooking biryani in her kitchen at that time perhaps.) Thus it is ridiculous to arrest him (even if he murders common people and takes beautiful pictures of their dead bodies before he runs off).

Now our government's tone is absolutely different. Thus, as we can see Davis holds both diplomatic and business passports - therefore he enjoys immunity rights. Miss parrot went on further by saying we have to handle the issue sensibly because US is after all the largest donor of foreign aid to Pakistan ---- and we are the biggest nation ruled by beggars. She also clarified that Shah Mehmood Qureshi violated the party discipline when he refused to grant Davis a diplomatic visa. The party was not happy with his views on Davis case.

So, we hope Davis will enjoy his trip back home soon.

Davis Case - Updates

As per the police investigation report, police has proof in the form of eye witness accounts and forensic reports that it was not a case of self defence.

The investigation has revealed that the motorcyclists did not point guns at Davis and the weapons recovered from them were not even loaded.

Witnesses have told police that Davis had directly shot at the motorcyclists and kept on shooting even when one of them was almost dead.

The police thinks that unlike Davis' claim that he did all this in self defence, all of the details suggest that it was cold blooded murder and was quite intentional killing in a public place. Therefore, he can not be allowed to go free nor should diplomatic immunity come into play to safe him.

US is putting immense pressure on Pakistan and has threatened to reduce all communication with Pakistan including the military and other forms of heavy aid. It is not yet known but with such a situation, Zardari's visit to US would be cancelled and so will Obama's visit to our country and the so called friendly ties with  US will come to a stand still.

Davis Case - Updates

Well there is not much of an update on the Raymond Davis case except that Pakistan's investigative team is recommending that a case of espionage should be registered against Davis because many of the details in the case suggest that he must be involved in such activities too.

During the investigation, the police found a few photographs that show some sensitive areas and defence installations fro Davis' camera. Photos of the Balahisar Fort, the head quarters of the paramilitary Frontier Corps in Peshawar and Pakistan Army's  bunkers on the Eastern border with India.

These are some strategic locations and it does not make sense why a diplomat would amuse himself with such photos. Such photos open the door for some more questions as to the nature of work Davis was up to and this is why it is being said that his business in Pakistan was perhaps to hurt the national security somehow but that it has been halted due to double murder case.

Davis Case - Hidden Facts

It has come to light that some of the very crucial information in the entire Raymond Davis case is being pushed under the rug for various reasons. This is mostly happening by the foreign media and not the Pakistani media because they want to show that Raymond Davis is indeed not at fault in anyway and that killing people through windshields is just something that pretty much happened to him like most actresses say, "Acting just happened to them by chance."

Now the things that US media is not highlighting are as follows:

1. Davis has had an identity crisis that no man on the planet has experienced. According to US, he was hired as an employee of a US security company by name of Hyperion Protective Consultants, LLC. It is located at 5100 Norh Lane in Orlando, Florida. Upon research it has been discovered that there is no such company located at 5100 North Lane. In fact, there never was a company by that name ever.

2. The office of Florida's Secretary of State requires all the Florida companies to register themselves there for better record keeping. But can you guess something, there is no record of any company by the name of Hyperion Protective Consultants, LLC today or in the past also. Thus, this is a ghost company where Davis worked for some dead people.

3. Most Pakistani journalists believe Davis is either a CIA agent or is working under a contract for some private mercenary firm - like Blackwater. The American media doesn't want to highlight this point anywhere of course.

4. Local papers in Pakistan are highlighting that Davis shot the men from behind several times. But not many people know that they were both shot twice at the back and also twice from the front. So, they were some strange muggers or thieves who were so ready to die on that particular spot that day. But remember Raymond Davis was the scared boy who did this in self-defence as we are all told to believe.

5. Next the details of what all did Davis carry with him on his day out to shoot locals in Pakistan is also not clearly talked about. He was discovered with a Beretta, three cell phones, a loaded Glock pistol in his car, three full magazines and a small telescope. I think he was planning to go to Bermuda with so much baggage.

6. His car was a local rental car. Again it is something that Pakistanis are aware of but foreign media is not highlighting it.

7. Pakistani media thinks Davis is more than some diplomat. They feel he was involved in things like spying, terror bombings and his main focus was on hurting the national security of Pakistan and destabilizing the government.

The Davis Case - Further Updates

It was not enough that an American came and killed two people, hardly co-operated with the investigative teams, ridiculously failed to clarify his exact designation and ID and yes the lavish food that he receives on a daily basis so that he doesn't shed a single inch from his otherwise healthy body - today he is also indirectly responsible for another death.

The third person who died was the widow of one of the bikers whom Raymond Davis shot dead. Shumaila was only twenty-six years and got married six months ago. She committed suicide by intaking insecticides that killed her. She was taken to the hospital by her family where she did happen to talk to media before she died. She told the press that she willingly wanted to end her life in protest against the favorable treatment towards the killer of her husband. She heard that it was quite possible that Raymond Davis would be set free and she wanted to protest against such injustice. Besides she also said that after her husband is dead they have no bread earner in their house as well. The doctors treated her but said she was losing lots of blood and ultimately died. She was buried today.

Another development about this case is that a security official who did not want to disclose his identity said that it has come to light that the two men who were killed by Raymond Davis were actually intelligence operatives. They belonged to the security

establishment and they found the activities of Raymond Davis detrimental to the national security of Pakistan.

Besides, if we remember the infamous vehicle that came from behind after Davis shot down the two men was out of the picture for quite some time. Now the Pakistani government has barred three more Americans from travelling outside Pakistan because it is believed these people were in the vehicle that crushed a man to death.

So, these are the latest updates. Let's see how and where it will end.

Raymond Davis Might Get Immunity Due To US Pressure

The latest update is that the Pakistani government is under immense pressure from the US government to let go off Raymond Davis. Pakistani government, it seemed was quite ready to grant "diplomatic immunity" to Davis as United States has limited its bilateral interaction with Islamabad and the pressure is building even more.

US expects Raymond Davis to be free in a matter of days now that they have provided some carefully made documents to prove his diplomatic status.

The interesting thing is that Raymond Davis appears to be one of the only few strange diplomats who had such major issues in proving himself to be a diplomat after he committed double murder in Lahore. He was first claimed by the US embassy as a Lahore consulate staffer and was later declared as assigned to Islamabad embassy. He also showed an ID card that proved that he worked for the US consulate general in Peshawar also.

Now as the time has passed, it has been revealed that  Davis had a military background and was posted with US Regional Affairs Office, which is also considered to be linked with CIA by most analysts.

As per the documents and his confused Identity status, it is being revealed that Raymond Davis was quite an important figure who was on an annual contract with a fee of at least $200,000.

Thus, it is likely that he would be granted the immunity and so much so for whatever happened to him killing two Pakistanis.

More on the Davis Murders

So far Pakistan's stance is that they are not going to return Raymond Davis to US as per their demand and constant request for diplomatic immunity. It is not really evident how come our government is pushing back so far...it is very much unlike our government. Experts feel it is because they fear that if they don't tackle this matter in a proper manner, public, which is already unhappy about the fact that a foreigner can so easily enter our country with mysterious business and so easily kills two people (even if they were muggers).

As per some more reports, it is also being asked that why did Davis run away from the scene suddenly when he was very calm at shooting the boys, he got out of his car, made video of the bodies and so much so also talked to somebody on the wireless. These were strangely calm signs and no ordinary man who kills somebody in self-defence would act this way and then suddenly decides to run off.

Another important thing that is being pointed out is the fact that the boys were carrying not so impressive locally made pistols and one of them had no bullets in it also. So far there is no evidence if they even tried to fire at Davis in the first place. Most of the bullets were hit the boy at the back and not on the front...so were they actually shooting from their ass or what. It actually means they were either not looking at Davis or were moving away from his. From the way it is looking now, Davis seemed more of a threat to them in fact.

Raymond Davis said his intention was never to kill the men but he shot them 7 times. May be a common person who gets damn scared might not have any control and can do that in panic. But this trained man knew very well that so many shots would actually kill anyone.

US has itself acted in a mysteriously cheap manner. They have issued 3 different statements about Raymond Davis' identity each saying something different. The last one is their desperate attempt to prove that he was in fact a diplomat of some technical staff.

Again, I'd say this case is naturally much more than we can see. Even a blind person could sense it if not see it. I don't know what would eventually happen and what would be the outcome. But America's stance has been disappointing. If somebody has killed somebody, he has committed a crime so what's the issue if he is dealt with in Pakistan's court.

What Happens When An American Kills Pakistanis In Pakistan?

I really told myself for a few days that I won't write about any of this but I have been reading about it so much that it is better to just put it into words. I know I often say the value of life is insignificantly low in my country. I may not like it if somebody else from some other country would say things about Pakistan but then there is no point in denying the truth. Life in itself is not important - human beings from any social strata in any part of our country, animals, nature, trees and plants all of them have been suffering for the longest time here. Slowly and gradually degrading into nothing. Some think about all this and quite a few don't even bother because they have beautiful lives.

Anyway, till now we are being killed and suffered by each other. This time, a foreigner killed two Pakistanis in Pakistan. The more one gets to know about this case the puzzle gets a bit more complicated. The story is all over our media. Although boys, men and women die everyday - that is insignificant. Here, because an American is involved, of course it makes it more worthy of being talked about. Anyhow, the story is somewhat like this so far...

A US official, Raymond Allen Davis shot two young motorcyclists near Lahore's Qurtaba Chowk on Jan 21st. He said he shot them in self-defence. Davis said that the two men tried to loot him and so he retaliated. But then he ran off from the scene. Surprisingly, or not so, another car an SUV was behind him to rescue Davis but whoever was in that vehicle ended up killing a common man on the bike. Police never got hold of that car or who was driving it. Davis does not know who was in it. He said he did call his Regional Security Officer about the incident right after it happened and perhaps they sent someone. But the fact that the vehicle came, killed a common man and fled doesn't make much sense.

There are many muggers and mobile thieves here. People are mugged often. Sometimes they even shoot or kill the people for the sake of a mobile phone. As per the police records, it is proved that the two men were actually robbers and on the same day before they were shot by Davis, they did rob a few people. Two of the complaints have been recognized to be against the dead boys as they were found with the robbed possessions as per the complaints.

The US ambassador Cameron Munter has highlighted the Geneva Convention, which allows diplomats to have the right of diplomatic immunity according to which Davis can not be tried in Pakistan according to the Pakistani court of law. Anyhow, Raymond Davis' identity and diplomatic status will decide this if he is eligible for diplomatic immunity. Surprisingly, earlier US was quiet but in today's papers we can see the change in their stance. They are now saying that he is a diplomat and that his documents can be shared. This is a bit strange too, as per Pakistani diplomats they were silent before or perhaps making his documents to save him.

The peculiar data about Davis is that since October 2009 he visited Pakistan at least nine times. He is 37 years old and has travelled on his regular passport rather than a diplomatic passport, which should have been the case. Pakistani sources don't really have any record or information of Davis' official work ever since he has been visiting since 2009.

As per the policy guidelines issued by the Foreign and Interior Ministries, US officials can not move around without informing their security officials. This is for their own security but Davis was driving a locally registered car instead of a diplomatic car without informing anybody. Another important thing to note is that Davis was carrying and illegal weapon. The police recovered a digital camera, a phone tracker with a charger.

Davis said he never intended to kill them. For six days he will be in police remand. They want to know why was he there at that time, why was he travelling in a private car, why did he not take any security and why was he carrying a wireless set in his car and also why was a SUV following his car. Also, they feel the way he shot the two men shows he is no ordinary diplomat, he seems to be fully trained at it.

Pakistan is under pressure from both ends. Within the country people are angry about this incident. They say it is an Aasia Siddiqui sort of scenario and that Davis should be dealt with according to Pakistan's law. The government does fear that the protests can get ugly with time as this is no ordinary case.

Anyway, it is quite possible that it is proved that it all happened in self-defence and he would be free. I just feel this is not just such a simple thing. It has a bigger game plan to it that is not clear to us. It is quite possible that he would go free but if he does not then it is also possible that this is some sort of a game plan according to which Davis is supposed to do this and be here. I don't know, this is just a thought that came in my mind keeping in mind everything. Actually the truth is that even we are talking about this because of the complications and strangeness revolving around Davis and not because some muggers were shot dead. But it is a rather strange case on the whole. Also, if the government fails to deal with this case in a right manner then it could lead to an uproar amongst common Pakistanis who are tired of not getting justice since forever in all aspects of life.
