Qatar to make big push for organ donations

It’s amazing to me how we hear all the side effects of the drugs that the pharmaceutical...Dude had me at my breaking point today.  We had to run between the Main Street and Broadway bridges,...

because when it comes down to it, I’ve always had a problem with my eating. Although, a lot of the time I choose a healthier option than most people I know, I overeat, and I binge eat. I’ve mastered my fitness, now I need to get my eating in check, by eating the proper amount of calories per day, according to my BMR (Basal Metabolic Rate). I’m on day 4… and I feel really great, and I’m continuing to reach my next weight goal of 125lbs… Here is a picture of my 310 calorie breakfast! Over 10 grams of protein. :) I used to eat 2 eggs and 2 slices of whole grain toast every day. Now I’ve cut it to 1 and 1, and I like it much better this way. Less calories, more opportunities for healthy calories throughout the day.

Price cuts on vaccines now may help get the drugs to more children. Several makers of children’s vaccines, including GlaxoKlineSmith and Merck, announced they would lower prices on the drugs in the poorest countries, which could save billions of donor dollars.

Bod PodIf you want to measure your bodyfat accurately and you aren’t satisfied with the results you are getting from your bodyfat scale (using the electrical impedance method), you might want to get your bodyfat measured using the Bod Pod.

The Bod Pod is an Air Displacement Plethysmograph which uses whole-body densitometry to determine body composition (fat and fat-free mass).  It utilizes the same principles as hydrostatic (or underwater) weighing, without having to get wet.

It takes about 5 minutes for the Bod Pod to measure your body composition.  You can find Bod Pod test sites near you at this link.  Bod Pod testing costs $35-$65, depending on location.

You can also measure your bodyfat very accurately with a DEXA (dual-emission X-ray absorptiometry) scan, which is often used to measure bone density, but this involves a dose of radiation and costs about $250.

If you use a bodyfat scale, it’s a good idea to check your scale’s bodyfat reading against the results from the Bod Pod to help calibrate your scale.

Have you used the Bod Pod?  What were your results?  Tell me in the comments.

After shoring up its facilities and educating its medical community, Qatar is gearing up for a nationwide promotion on organ donation, portraying it as a heroic act that saves lives.

The need for organ donation in Qatar is growing. Currently, some 500 patients here are on dialysis, 60 of which are on a waiting list for kidney transplants. About 80 people have liver failure, and a dozen of these patients are awaiting transplants.

To address the demand, Qatar is setting up a registry with the names of people who have donated or are willing to donate their organs after death. Residents will also soon be able to document their desire to donate on their personal ID cards and drivers licenses, the Gulf Times reports.

Qatar is the the only country in the world where both nationals and expatriates are put on the same waiting list and on a turn-by-turn basis, Hamad Medical Corporation’s Urology and Transplant Surgery professor Dr Riadh Fadhil said.

Gulf Times reports:

We are the only country that does not discriminate against anyone once an organ is available as we give it to the next person in line,” he said.

He added that the country has also scored a first in sponsoring all the transplant activities offering for free operation for both donor and the recipient.

“We are ensuring equality and justice in our organ transplantation processes and I believe the communities should be willing to pay back by choosing to donate their organs after death,” he noted.
