Morning Assembly

How can you abandon your team now?

I have been reading that enthusiasm on the part of players wasn’t enough. People should have prayed more & they could have won. And more importantly, the team made the same mistakes. We have critics in every corner who will tell you that dropping catches & leaking run had been grave mistakes. And it’s all about fixing the blame on the players.

There ought to be too much pressure on players. We shouldn’t forget that. It’s not how nobodies are playing cricket at home. Well I think it’s sheer luck factor & yes India is a better team. They played better than us.

It’s ridiculous how people are saying that cricket has died. And they have also changed their display pics on FB. How can they desert their own team? They are still bitching about Misbah. Batting line just failed. They should accept it rather than bitching about one player. And what the hell do they expect in one day cricket? It’s all luck. It’s not test cricket. Shame on the nation for abandoning their team!

What I find weird is that Afridi had to apologize to the nation. This is just a game. Why can’t we take a game as a game? Right now people are depressed & they hate the team. When they win, you love them & when they lose, you just can’t stand them. This is abnormal behavior.

Everyone was making really low jokes & they were so confident that we would win. Pepsi’s horrendous ad ‘Kuch yaad aya’ is one such example.

I’ve read terrible stuff written by educated people of Pakistan, naturally I don’t expect much of illiterates. People were so excited & happy about the matches & that’s a good thing. But they should also take defeat without complaint, & victory without gloating & thinking too much of themselves. They are totally banking on prayers & then they hate the players for losing the match.

Instead of bitching about Misbah & Umar Gul, they can talk about Wahab Riaz. But no, we will just talk about negative stuff. If this had happened, we might have won. Is winning everything? Do we discard people in our lives when they fail? And if we do, it only speaks about our own character. I think Pakistan deserves better people who can accept defeat with grace. It requires a lot of courage. Anyone can dance when good things happen.

There is one other man I’d like to badmouth & that is none other than ‘It’s already raining boundaries in Mohali.’ I find Mr. Ravi very biased. He was talking about barring luck factor. You can’t do that in one day cricket. He’s not a good commentator. He looks & sounds drunk all the time.

Anyway, good luck to both the teams of Sri Lanka & India!

Why isn’t Veena Malik evicted?

I just can’t understand why Veena Malik is not yet evicted. There was so much hue & cry but still Veena Malik is there. Ali Saleem aka Begum Nawaish Ali was thrown out of the house immediately even though this guy wouldn’t have embarrassed us like Veena Malik.

Shiv Sena & MNS had issues with 2 Pakistanis on the show. In fact Shiv Sena activists even went to the house & beat up security guards outside. However, a group of Mumbai residents & activists did condemn opposition of the Shiv Sena & Maharashtra Navnirman Sena.

During the 1st week, Ali Saleem also became the captain but he was evicted in the 3rd week. All through his stay on the show, he seemed very opinionated & loud-mouthed about every incident on the show – that was the reason behind his eviction. I think the main reason might have been the fact that he’s a drag queen & that has always been a little too much for everyone. The other reason might have been that he was more educated than Veena. I think that was his fault.

Now coming back to Veena Malik, who has besmeared the already shattered image of Pakistan in the eyes of those who just want to see us as a joke, which in itself is laughable, to put it mildly! But what can we say when we have a Pakistani trying to prove to the rest of the world that she’s good for a laugh & you can jeer at her as much as you want as she doesn’t mind at all. This lady was earlier on seen in the bathroom talking to herself. Now she talks to herself even outside the realm of bathroom, which is progress. She tells us while talking to herself that she has a great body & people are only interested in her body & no one gives a damn about her beautiful heart. It’s good to know that you’re in love with your body, but I think that wasn’t the point.

I think both Ashmit & Veena sound totally mad when they argue over stupid things. And then it’s even more annoying when they get intimate & those ever annoying hugs seem to be never-ending. There are also other mad people in the house like Seema jee who doesn’t understand anything but she seems to be the favourite.

Even Salman Khan doesn’t miss a single opportunity of insulting this woman. If & when he could make fun of Veena Malik, he does that & she doesn’t have any problem with it. It’s highly irritating when she tells Salman Khan that she loves him & you should see those looks. Everything is so tacky & not at all refined. Her fake behavior will get on your nerves.

We all are ardent fans of someone or the other, but I don’t think we would start giving looks to those men & there is also a thing known as self-respect. You may like a celebrity’s work or you maybe in love with the celebrity, but Veena Malik expresses her love in a very sluttish way. Now I’m not saying that you have to have a reverential attitude towards the particular celebrity, but if you have even a bit of respect for that person, you may not end up as a joke.

What I can’t stand is that Pakistan has been insulted, cause of this lady! And I just cannot be open-minded about this aspect, because this is about my country. I hope she gets evicted soon.If the best house mate Hrishant could be evicted, then why not Veena after all this mess & cheapness?

But I’ve noticed she has a good taste in shoes. She wears very stylish stuff, but I don’t think anyone can wear high heels 24/7, but Veena does that.

Big B and John Join "Save Our Tigers" Campaign

Today, Amitabh Bachan and hunk John Abraham were in Madhya Pradesh to be a part of a telethon to create awareness about this cause and raise money so that reserves such as Pench National Park could take care of the tigers in a better way.

John also stripped for PETA ad to appeal against animal abuse. John is often known for his social work over the years.

Though this is a great cause and Big B also wrote on his blog last night, that it is important for him to participate in this telethon for this special cause as tigers need to be saved from poaching and extinction.

However, I also heard a negative news about Big B, that he is silently responsible for delaying the release of a small budgeted movie "Chittagong" so that his son's movie "Khelen Hum Jee Jan Se" does better on the box office. The maker of Chittagong, said that both the movies dealt with the same subject but his movie was low budget film unlike the Abhishek starrer movie. And the man criticized Big B on a social website by saying "Somebody is desperately trying to save his son's career. It is sad that talent is no more appreciated." Well, even if it is true, Khelen Hum Jee Jan Se is a flop. It has just recovered 5 crores while as of now the movie is making a loss of a good 30 crore rupees.

Akshaye Khanna

I have been a loyal and consistent fan of Akshaye Khanna from his very first movie. Initially, I thought he is the most good looking actor that has entered the Indian cinema with his cute smile and dimples. He had this amazing sense of dialogue delivery and from the very first movie, he didn't seem to have anything cheap about him. And he looked super cute in his movie with Madhuri Dixit and Sanjay Kapoor in songs such as Mohabbat Hai. And apart from that I think he is the only actor with an executive look.

His song "I am a Bachelor" was an instant hit. But, he proved to be much more than a good looking actor. He is different from the rest of the tacky actors and actresses in the industry. This man, is a genuinely good actor who takes his craft seriously. He maintained a distance from the media from the very beginning for which he was considered arrogant. But he remained consistent and stayed quiet. Now, media does not care whether he puts on a wig or is bald, everybody knows for sure that if he is in a movie, he would have acted well.

Akshaye Khanna, was born on 28th March, 1975 in Mumbai city. So, it seems my sister's opinions about the year 1975 was true. A lot of good actors were born in this year. He is the youngest son of actor and politician, Vinod Khanna. His elder brother Rahul Khanna, who was also a popular VJ on MTV and who tried his hands at acting also, was initially liked much more than Akshaye Khanna due to his good looks and charming personality. But Rahul Khanna was never a good actor and so he is not really remembered as one either.

Akshaye Khanna made his debut with his father's production, Himalay Putra, in 1997 at the age of 22, in which he was recognized as a promising new entrant in the Indian film industry. He received Filmfare Best Debut Award Male for his performance in Border in 1998. Truly in, Border, he was the most adorable soldier. Some of his other hits include Taal, Hum Raaz, Dil Chahta Hai, Hulchul and Race. He did not always focus on getting the lead role but rather a significant role, which is why he even worked as shrewed villain characters in Hum Raaz and Race. His performances were loved by audiences.

Dil Chahta Hai was an all time unique creation of the Indian cinema made by Farhan Akhtar. Akshaye Khanna played the role of a decent and sober artist who fell in love with an older woman. He won the Filmfare Best Supporting Actor Award for his role in Dil Chahta Hai in 2002.

But apart from that, he received special critical acclaim for his outstanding performance in Ghandi My Father. He touched the hearts of many by his performance. He also won the Best Performance Award in the Australian Indian Film Festival for his role of Harilal Ghandi in Ghandi My Father.

Recently, people are waiting for one of his new releases No Problem, in which he will play a comedy role.

All in all, I would say he is a no nonsense actor who does not do any bullshitting. His fans and the industry know that he is a serious actor who takes his work seriously. He is known for giving answers in one liners and it is very recently that he has started talking to media and that also for his movies. He is one actor who does not have a problem of being over shadowed by any actor. He has worked with brilliant actors from the beginning of his career and has always done justice to his work.

I feel, Vinod Khanna has done a brilliant job at raising his kids. I think amongst all the child stars in the Indian cinema, his sons were the most outstanding ones. They have a personality and sense of responsibility. They are not crazy and lost unlike most actors and actresses.

Media has always been after him about his personal life and his single status. They feel it is so weird that he is single and yet not controversial. Here's what Akshaye Khanna says about his personal life:

“Somebody asked me a few days back why I am not involved in any controversy! Isn’t that the strangest thing to ask?” he asks. Then he goes on to explain, “Call me boring, but I can’t handle negative situations. Even in my personal life, I can’t bear to have bad feelings. I get very uncomfortable with negativity or if anything is left unsaid. Everything should be clear and on the table.”

So, Akshaye likes a simple life? “That’s it,” he smiles, “My work is my hobby and, if I am not on the sets, I am at home or with a bunch of very close friends. Or, I am on the computer playing games, or watching TV, or reading. I don’t go out a lot. I hate partying or going to crowded places. I am actually a shy guy, and take time to warm up to people.”

Media assumes that his boring and introvert lifestyle is the reason for him being single. To that he replied “No, that’s because I am happy being single. I am still young, and want to enjoy my life my way. I don’t think being committed is the be-all and end-all of life. Why do you have to be in a relationship all the time? I am not looking for love - if it happens, fine.”

And then, he goes on to explain another side effect of not being in love. “Being single and an actor is a deadly combo. Obviously, girls hit on me all the time. Then I have to hit on them - what to do?” he laughs.

I have tried to put pics of his life in the best possible manner from his childhood days till stardom. But this particular one, is a bit funny and the funny part is our politicians Benazir Bhutto and her husband.

Deepika Plays Kalpana Dutta

After reading the post written on Khelen Hum Jee Jaan Se, I got to know that Asutosh Gowarikar chose Deepika to play the role of Kalpana Dutta in the movie who was one of the key revolionists of the Chittagong revolution. He felt that Deepika had a strong resemblance of the real Kalpana Dutta, whose picture I have put up. I guess, she looks like Deepika's mother.

Chittagong revolution was also one of the difficult times as I have read and heard from a few people. And this movie will show something about that time.

The Chittagong Armoury Raid took place on 18 April 1930 and Kalpana hurried back to Chittagong and came in contact with Surya Sen in May 1931.Kalpana was entrusted with the safe carrying of heavy explosive materials from Calcutta. She also secretly prepared 'gun-cotton' and planned to plant a dynamite fuse under the court building and inside the jail to free the revolutionary leaders, who were being tried in a special Tribunal. The plot was uncovered and certain restrictions were imposed on Kalpana's movements. She, however, managed to visit regularly the village of Surya Sen, sometimes even at dead of night.

In September 1931 Surya Sen decided to entrust Kalpana and Pritilata with a plan to attack the European Club at Chittagong. A week before the action Kalpana was arrested while moving out for a survey work in a boy's attire. While in jail, she was told about the Pahartali action and the heroic suicide of Pritilata. Being released on bail, she went underground at the bidding of Surya Sen and in the early hours of 17 February 1933 the police encircled their hideout. Surya Sen was captured while Kalpana, along with Manindra Datta, escaped.

On 19 May 1933 Kalpana, with some comrades, was arrested. In the second supplementary trial of Chittagong Armoury Raid case, Surya Sen and Tarakeswar Dastidar were sentenced to death, and Kalpana was sentenced to transportation for life. Being released in 1939 she graduated from the Calcutta University in 1940. Soon she joined the CPI and resumed her battle against the British rule. She turned Kalpana Joshi in 1943 when she married PC Joshi, the leader of the CPI.

She went back to Chittagong and organised the Kisans' and women's fronts of the party. In 1946 she contested, though unsuccessfully, in the elections to the Bengal Legislative Assembly. After 1947 she migrated to India and resigned from active politics. Kalpana Datta breathed her last at New Delhi on 8 February 1995.

Hate Message

I just got this sms from an ex colleague:

"We condemn the verdict given by American Supreme Court against Dr. Afia Siddiqui. We also condemn the reaction Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gillani. We hate you Israel. We hate you America. We hate you India. You are the real terrorists. Please add your vote and keep forwarding. 00025645"

Now this is a very disturbing hate message. Unlike many Pakistanis that were very emotional about the injustice being done against this woman. The media also played a lot with the minds of Pakistanis here. And now after she has been sentenced to 86 years of imprisonment, such hate messages are being shared. I don't understand who gives people the right to just openly call anybody terrorists. It is shameful and a very uneducated approach. Tolerance is lacking in abundance here.
