Yesterday I got prescribed Marvelon.
This isn’t the first choice that doctors will usually give, but I mentioned about the acne I tend to get on my chest and back, and it was suggested I try these first as they contain a lower amount of a certain hormone that can make acne worse.
Marvelon is a 21 day contraceptive. You take it fo three weeks, and then have a break in which time you will have a withdrawal bleed/period. You can go straight on to the next pack if you want to skip a period, but this isn’t advisable on a regular basis. They come in a three month supply.
The first thing I done when I got them was to read the rather large instruction leaflet that came with them. I don’t know if its normal for them to be so extensive.
It lists side effects that may occur, such as irregular bleeding (only whilst it settles down), headache, nausea, soreness etc.
When I got home I read reviews for it on the internet, and they were not as great as I hoped, with alot of women complaining of feelings of depression and severe mood swings after the first couple of weeks.
I suffer with depression from time to time so this certainly wasn’t reassuring, however I have to keep in mind that just because other people have had this happen, it might not be the case for me.
Weight gain was also something that kept being mentioned, though according to my doctor, it isn’t the pill directly making this happen. Certain brands can make you hungrier, so you may be inclined to eat more.
I’m trying preventative measures right now to stop this from happening by intaking more water and cutting back on the junk I usually eat.
