It occurred to me that I must find out a little bit about Mamta Kulkarni & I just learnt that she’s married & you will be surprised to know that she is 38 year old. Right now she is in New York.
She has worked in Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Bengali & Hindi movies. In fact she got her 1st break in Tamil film. She did a couple of Hindi movies. I have only seen Karan Arjun & China Gate.
She also got into Stardust controversy:
“She gained fame after posing topless (but with her arms crossed over her breasts) for a photograph that appeared on the cover of Stardust, a popular Indian film magazine in September 1993. She was charged under India's obscenity laws, and found herself under attack from both conservative religious groups, and women's groups. The outspoken actress lashed out at protesters, calling them hypocrites.
Kulkarni was finally convicted in July 2000, and fined Rs 15,000. However, this caused yet another controversy because she appeared in court in a burqa to evade photographers, which led to death threats and protests from the local Islamic community.”
We can’t say that Mamta was far ahead of time. We can say that about Anita Ayub, cause we are still lagging behind. But we all labeled Mamta as one cheap woman. I remember that almost everyone called her a slut after that topless cover.
These days nearly anyone who comes on the screen is either hot/sexy or cute. But she was just cheap. I think that was unfair on the part of the world.
While she was working on the set of Karan Arjun, her mother used to accompany her & SRK, Kajol & Salman Khan were all the time playing prank on her. How very low! And once I read in her interview that she had a birthmark on her body & it was predicted that she would become very famous.
