Garmin Nuvi Recall: Garmin announced this Wednesday a voluntary recall for almost 1.25 million Nuvi personal GPS navigation devices, about 800,000 Nuvi devices have been sold in the United States. The defective units include those with Nuvi models 200W, 250W, 260W as well as model numbers in the 700 series which has a specific battery that was manufactured by the battery supplier within a limited date code range. Garmin has identified potential overheating issues when certain batteries manufactured by the third-party battery supplier within a limited date code range are used in some Garmin Nuvi models with specific printed circuit board (PCB) design.
Nuvi buyers or owners should not remove or repair the battery on their own. The company will replace the battery with a new one which will not be damaging and destructive and this whole process will be free of charge.
Nuvi owners can go to Garmin's recall site to check if their device is affected by entering the device's serial number.
