Eva Longoria: Hosting Alma Awards with George Lopez!

Eva Longoria wears two different outfits on the set of Desperate Housewives on Tuesday (July 12) in Los Angeles.

The 36-year-old actress shot some scenes with co-star Ricardo Chavira who plays her husband in the ABC dramedy.

Eva will be co-hosting the 2011 Alma Awards with George Lopez on Friday, Sept. 16, at 8 p.m. on NBC.

This year marks the return of the award show after it was canceled in 2010 when it didn’t have a broadcast partner.

“NBC is proud to join with the NCLR ALMA Awards so that we can recognize the outstanding achievements of Hispanic artists with this national showcase,” the network’s Alternative Programming EVP, Paul Telegdy, said about the show, which Eva will also help executive produce.

Watch out Snooki, you have competition...sort of! Punk rock princess Avril Lavigne showed up to film an interview with Extra on Tuesday (July 12) wearing a Jersey Shore inspired poof. The question is, did she pull it off?

For Avril's appearance at the Grove in Los Angeles, she definitely had the hair down. Of course the What The Hell singer was rocking her own fashion, t-shirt, skinny pants, etc, and not a Snooki-inspired get-up.

No, there was no short skirt, wooly boots, and low-cut blouse to show off her cleavage. Will Avril keep the poof? Who knows, but do not be surprised if the singer and the reality television star show up on a 'Who wore it better?' list. Check out the photos, here.

One thing that Snooki does have over Avril, however, is a book deal. She has reportedly inked a deal for her second novel. Lavigne should not be too jealous though, since she intends to launch a new line of clothing. Let the war begin!

40th death anniversary of Jim Morrison

July 3 marks the 40th death anniversary of Jim Morrison, the legendary singer of rock band the Doors.

Jim Morrison died at the age of 27. He was found dead in a bathtub in his Paris apartment by his longtime girlfriend Pamela Courson. No autopsy was performed that led to many conspiracy theories.

Fans from all over the World including the Philippines have special ways to commemorate the occasion and celebrate Jim Morrison's massive contribution to music.

Jim Morrison was Born in 1947 in Florida, he was named James Douglas Morrison. His father Steve Morrison was an Admiral in the U.S. Navy and his mother Clara Clarke Morrison was a daughter of a Lawyer from Wisconsin.

Jim Morrison is a rock legend and he's also an author of different books of poetry. He recorded his own poetry in a studio way back March 1969 in Los Angeles.

What Did Mathew McConaughey's Mom Do On The Red Carpet?

Well these are some strange photos. Here, the focus is not really on the very handsome Mathew McConaughey who just visited the premiere of The Lincoln Lawyer in Los Angeles, CA with his family on March 10th. Instead, the press noted that his mother Kay is quite a charmer and attention seeker herself.

To be honest, for her age she does look all smart and graceful but it was observed that she flashed her ass on the red carpet repeatedly. Now, that is rather weird. Agreed the woman has great legs and a nice body in comparison to many young actresses but this wasn't really expected or necessary.

The good looks may run in their genes but Kay seems overwhelmingly excited at the event as seen in the pictures. Sometimes she is all fine, then she jumps up and pulls up her legs and then she flaunts quite a portion of her ass.

The last time media saw her, Kay was promoting her memoirs by telling a story about Mathew's father dying during sex and then showing off his giant dead penis to the EMTs. Kay and Mathew's dad, James divorced and re-married each other several times. She used to be a kindergarten teacher in her younger days.

Kay is one strange and rather excited woman. I guess men would be loving her for all this talk and a nice body to top it all. It doesn't really seem that Mathew is worried about her stunts in these pictures or may be he never realized she was showing off her ass on the red carpet and stealing the limelight away.

The speech is so adorable we are just going to pretend that it was delivered to us in America via satellite for her Los Angeles Film Critics Association triumph and NBR win.

The win for Jacki Weaver is good news for that fine Australian film. They did a good thing, sweetie. Though Animal Kingdom was the first or near-first screener out, it didn't necessarily have a strong "watch me" hook for Academy voters who hadn't been paying attention to Sundance buzz. I've said ever since January that if people watch this movie, she'll be nominated. Simple as that. But you have to get the voters to watch. This vote of confidence from Los Angelenos can't hurt.

I'm also thrilled for Last Train Home which is my choice for Best Documentary of the Year ...unless Prodigal Sons counts as this year... I get so confused. I'm totally horrified that it didn't make Oscar's finalist list. Unless of course it wasn't eligible for some reason. It's so tough to track with docs and shorts and whatnot, these eligibility requirements and windows.

Finally, it's good to see LAFCA staying true to their own impulses with all the foreign film love. This group tends to not be as beholden to Oscar frontrunners as many other critics groups are. That said, I'm still unsure about how I feel about Carlos winning film prizes. I know it was released theatrically but wasn't it made as a TV miniseries?

ONE FINAL IMPORTANT NOTE: South Korea's Mother & France's A Prophet, which both won awards today with Los Angeles critics, represent flip sides of the same Oscar coin. Both were submitted for Oscar consideration last year in the foreign film category but were not released in Los Angeles theaters in 2009 rendering them ineligible for other Oscar nominations that year. They both received theatrical releases in 2010, and because of Oscar rules on that matter, only Mother is now eligible for Oscar consideration (in all categories EXCEPT foreign film since it had its shot last year). A Prophet, having been nominated in its only eligible category last year, is not eligible for any further consideration. Make sense?

Critics Awards Cometh. Swan vs. Network?

Ballots were due today for the BFCA "Critics Choice Awards" so you can be sure I did my share of handwringing before I sent it in. My god, you think you know what you want to vote for and you stare at the ballot and it's just >gah< indecision! (It doesn't help that you can only vote for 3 items in each category, 5 for best picture). Those nominations will be announced on Monday.

Tomorrow we'll be hearing from the LAFCA (who will begin announcing at 12:30 PST) -- who have the Academy's ear by way of proximity and major representative outlets-- and the New York Film Critics Online (not to be confused with the the ancient NYFCC which votes on Monday) and then we're off. Neither the critics awards nor the top ten lists will let up thereafter for at least the next month. If you're curious about what I'm predicting you can check out Gold Derby's roundup of pundits here. Other than Best Picture (The Social Network -duh.), predicting critics awards can be a bit like throwing darts. We hope there are lots of fun surprises this year.

In the past decade critics prizes have become both more plentiful and repetitive, with one film always the obvious champ. Even in years where you'd think there'd be a battle royale (like 2007's No Country For Old Men vs. There Will Be Blood) it never really goes ten rounds before one film K.O.s the other. It's less about critical battles than it used to be and more about declaring your allegiance to the hivemind. Which, if you stop to think about it, is exactly what online movie culture is about, with off-consensus critics being (virtually) burned at the stake if they dare to dislike [insert popular movie here]. Which is all a long way of saying that you'll hear the title The Social Network over and over again this season. As often as you heard The Hurt Locker last year probably.

But both are great films so I don't mi---Oh no. I've been assimilated, too. Noooooooooooo

I'm guessing that if we see any challenge to Fincher's Networking this year it'll be Aronofsky & Team Swan (still all the rage at the specialty box office). But how much of a fight do those crazy ballerinas have in them?

Care to make any predictions?

Earthquake Los Angeles 2010

A 3.6 magnitude earthquake was felt widely in the West Los Angeles area and areas of downtown June 7, at 2:17 a.m., Monday morning when people were asleep. According to the US Geological Survey Website, the location of the small earthquake was in Santa Monica Bay, five miles away from Manhattan Beach and Hermosa Beach. No injuries or damage has been reported and there are no reports of aftershocks.

The US Geological Survey website (USGS) recorded hundreds of hits from respondents saying they felt the quake mainly people in oceanfront communities but some from central Los Angeles about 20 miles east.

Santa Monica police spokesman Blake says he felt a "very brief and mild jolt," but had not received any calls from the public. One resident named Christopher Knight, a Scottsdale, Ariz, resident visiting in Marina del Ray, says the jolt lasted about a second. "It was very short shift from left to right."

As of now there is still no complete and exact information about the shocks that occurred in santa monica.
