Fleet Week 2010 : It’s Fleet Week 2010 in New York City

Does fleet week sound familiar to you? Well, for those who have no idea what fleet week is, let me tell you something about it. Fleet week (May 26-June 2) is the time when big ships and lots of sailors in uniform visit Manhattan, and it only happens on the heart of America – New York
City.

This is one of those times in a person’s life where you could thank them for all the great things that they did as an individual and for what they have contributed to keep this country peaceful. In every occasion, there are events, and when I mean events, it would be all week long. There would be ship tours, military demos, and a special Memorial Day ceremony. There’s even a free screening of Top Gun on the flight deck of the Intrepid.

Even bars all over New York City are trying their best to give thanks to the sailors that would visit them by offering limited “Fleet Week Drink Special”.

RFK Bridge

The RFK Bridge in New York also known as Triborough Bridge has been shut down due to a suspicious vehicle. New York Police Department spokesman Paul Browne said a worker on the bridge that connects the New York City boroughs of Manhattan, Queens and the Bronx found the vehicle apparently smelling of gas. Witnesses said they saw a dark skin man wearing a dark clothing leaving the vehicle on the way to New York City and ran away Wednesday night and a smell of gasoline was reported coming from the vehicle, which was described as a U-Haul or Ryder Truck. The truck was thoroughly checked by the bomb squad, including the use of x-ray technology to scan the vehicle. The bomb squad assumed that the vehicle is safe. The bridge is owned by New York City and operated by the Triborough Bridge and Tunnel Authority. It was slowly beginning to reopen around 12:05am.

Times Square - Most Visited Tourist Landmark in the World

When I found that Times Square is most popular tourist landmark (attraction) in the world with more then 35 mil. travellers. I was surprised. First question that pop up at that moment is why and what tourists can see there.

Historically was titled Longacre Square. Original name was changed in April 1904. Sometimes famous as the "Crossroads of the World" has achieved the position of an iconic concern landmark and has become a symbolization of New York City.

Theoretically, Times Square is a field crossing in Manhattan, a borough of New York City, at the junction of street and Seventh Avenue and stretching from West 42nd to West 47th Streets. The Times Square Atlantic consists of the blocks between Sixth and Eighth Avenues from east to west, and West 40th and West 53rd Streets from south to north, making up the western conception of the advertisement area of Midtown Manhattan.

Now days is famous because of New Year's Eve ball drop, an circumstance co-produced by the Times Square Alliance and Countdown Entertainment.

Times Square now days boasts attractions such as ABC's Times Square Studios, where Good Morning America is programme live, an elaborate Toys "R" Us store, and competing Hershey's and M&M's stores across the street from each other, as well as restaurants such as Ruby Foo's (Chinese food), the Bubba Gump Shrimp Company (seafood), Planet Hollywood Restaurant and Bar (theme restaurant) and Carmine's (Italian) along with a sort of multiple flick theaters. It has also attracted a sort of super financial, publishing, and media firms to set up headquarters in the area. This Atlantic is also well known from movies and video spots.

So, is it worth first place as travel landmark number one. Yes if you same urban experience but if you are cultural or history fan you will be very disappointed. They will feature it's just a bunch of billboards and lights.

My personal rate is thumb up!
