North Korea attacked and fired a series of artillery shells at a South Korean Island.
A TV station said some houses on the island were on fire. 2 South Korean Marines were killed and many residents and soldiers have also been wounded in this attack.
Foreign financial markets swayed and South Korea was placed on high alert. South Korean President Lee Myung-bak ordered officials to sternly respond to North Korea's action but also called on officials to ensure that the situation wont escalate.

A three-month old baby wаѕ starved tο death bесаuѕе of parents playing Prius online game for almost 12 hours and they spent most of their time in Internet cafes.
The father Kim Yoo-chul 41-year old and his wife Choi Mi-sun 25-year old were arrested in the city of Suweon, south of Seoul, earlier this week, five months after they reported the death of their baby. An autopsy showed her death was caused by a long period of malnutrition.
"The couple seemed to have lost their will to live a normal life because they didn't have jobs and gave birth to a premature baby," Chung Jin-Won, a police officer, told Korean press.
"They indulged themselves in the online game of raising a virtual character so as to escape from reality, which led to the death of their real baby."
