Help Strays in Romania

It has come to the attention of the entire world, the horrible treatment of animals in Romania, the daily mass killings of strays not only by individuals, who most of the time are not even investigated by the Police, but in the majority of cities of Romania, the representatives of ANSVSA - DSV continue to KILL STRAYS based on an article ( article 7 ) which has become inoperable after the entering into force of the Law nr.205/2004 and the Law 9/2008.

The fact that article 7 has been abrogated is very clearly exposed in an official letter sent by the ANSVSA in 2009, which will be attached to the present petition.

It is OBVIOUS that the euthanasia of strays in the cities pounds, all over Romania, at this POINT IN TIME, is done ILLEGALLY....most of the employees of ANSVSA/DVS, including very many veterinarians DO NOT APPLY THE laws from 2004 and 2008, let alone the fact that the European Convention for Animals Welfare Ratified in 2004 and entered in force in Romania in 2005 is completely overlooked.

We ask the ANSVSA to immediately instruct all its territorial representatives to immediately implement the laws from 2004 and 2008, to STOP THE KILLING OF STRAYS and to punish those who KILLED THOSE ANIMALS.

It is outrageous to see the horrifying cruelty animals - mostly stray dogs - are subjected to in Romania.

Making a difference in an animal’s life!

This petition consists of three parts:

1. Ban all kill shelters in Michigan

2. Change the state law (city ordinance) on number of dogs allowed in a home

3. Lower the price of adopting animals from shelters.

WE NEED TO WORK TOGETHER TO BAN ALL KILL SHELTERS.
These animals have the right to live.
What gives us the right to take their lives from them?
It’s not their fault that there are irresponsible humans in this world, so
why should they have to pay the price with their lives.

THE STATE LAW NEEDS TO BE CHANGED AS TO HOW MANY ANIMALS YOU CAN OWN.
Right now, the number of dogs you may own is 3, it ought to be changed,
so that more people could provide homes to these animals.

Tell the Municipality of Bihac, Bosnia & Herzegovina to stop killing stray dogs and cats

The Association for the protection and rescue of animals, "Spas" Bihac needs our help. The animal activists have been struggling to save lives of abandoned animals for some years now. The Society initiated spay/neuter projects several times, has found homes for many homeless, abandoned animals. Insted to acknowledge their efforts and success the Municipality issued an illegal order on killing of animals eventhough it is the responsibility of the city to initiate spay/neuter and build a shelter.

Following a public statement published in local media of USK Canton, emitted on the TV Hayat on November 28th 2010 in which Municipality gives instructions of the manner and procedure of removing and the illegal shooting of stray dogs, Association for the protection and rescue of animals, "SPAS" Bihac hereby seek an urgent manifestation of Municipality, in order to start processing of these irregularities in the judicial institutions of the Municipality.

The statements which call for illegal action had resulted in the killing of stray dogs, abandoned animals by unknown persons, for which this Association holds the municipality of Bihac directly responsible. The law has been violated in the literal sense of the word when the larger number of abandoned animals was killed by fire guns. We demand your immediate reaction and as soon as possible to publish press releases that will be based on respect of the law and not call for its violation.

Who is the savior of strays?

One thing that I find excruciatingly annoying is that people who come to me & ask me to adopt some stray. In the past, there have been people who thought it was their birth-right to drop helpless animals at our house & all these so-called animal lovers have this pain in their heart; they all love to do this big talk about helping animals but in reality, they are only breed conscious.

And I don’t know as to who is spreading rumors about me helping each & every stray in Pakistan. Umar & I already look after 30 cats, & taking care of 30 animals is a huge responsibility. We won’t be seen anywhere doing this fucking big talk. We do what we can. Yeah I know it’s on a very small scale. Maybe one day we might be able to touch our dream & build a proper animal shelter in Karachi. But at the moment, we can’t say anything. Since my big shot father is dead & I’m not married to George Clooney, & I’m also not Amitabh of Sharabi, I can’t help anyone at the moment.

I meet countless people who claim to love animals & yet they don’t look after even one stray. Ever since DHA people came up with this fucking idea of shooting stray dogs, a lot of people think that my brother & I are the solution & we would provide home to every stray in Karachi. Is it solely our responsibility? I have mentioned a couple of times about stray dogs & puppies who have been murdered in my neighborhood. My mom & I used to give them food. We knew the mother of the puppies since she herself was a puppy. I wanted to shift all those strays from this place. We did contact all the people who claimed to be so god-damn loving when it comes to animals but they were of no help. It was all big talk. They are only interested in competitions. No one is ready to take any action.

There are vets in this country & some of them are good. Those who really want to help animals can contact them. You can make blogs in order to help out these strays. You can post the pics of those strays on them & if anyone is interested, then he/she could contact that person. It’s really annoying when you can’t move your ass & yet you want others to do that job for you.

The thing is…we can’t pour compassion into those who are heartless. Fine. But what about all those breed conscious people who never get tired of telling you how much they love animals? And there are some who also hate strays but only love you know the breeds they can’t even pronounce, to begin with. And please I’m not a savior.

Rather than waiting for others to do something for strays, one should do whatever he/she could do himself/herself. If all those who claim to care about animals even provide home to one stray, that would help. But if you’re expecting others to help out & solve the problem than you may wait forever.

And I guess if you’re genuinely interested in a cause, you do something rather than just bothering those who are already doing something.

Stray cats

Something that would always drive me nuts is the existence of cats & dogs. And I’ve seen that strays are really very sweet. Today we went for shopping & there I saw this tabby cat…he was sleeping, I couldn’t resist the temptation of petting him & when I did, he woke up & he was being so sweet & friendly.

Even when I see some stray cleaning his/her paws or in some other act, it only takes a fraction of a second & I’m head over heels in love with that animal. I wish we could help them all, but we don’t have enough space in our house. My younger siblings & I look after 29 cats…although we have this dream of building a proper animal shelter for cats & dogs, but Karachi is becoming a strange place, so we don’t know. Ever since Taliban are in the picture, we don’t even know how long we are going to stay here. The only reason I don’t leave this country is because of my cats & here these damn Taliban are giving all of us headaches. I just can’t abandon them. I have to put down all of them, if I ever have to leave this place cause of these lunatics.

Anyway over the years, I’ve become friends with many strays & I’ve seen that they try to adjust quickly & they are extremely friendly. Many people think that strays are dirty, but it’s not true. Yes, it’s difficult to domesticate a cat, but it’s not impossible. I had been friends with some strays who even used to let me touch their new born babies.

And I’m very sorry to say, but a lot of damage has been done by people who call cats selfish animals. People who don’t know cats at all go around saying stuff that isn’t true. One needs to work hard & only then animals trust you.

And then I have also heard countless myths about cats. Kali billi manhoos hai. Aap khud manhoos hain, if you have such absurd ideas. And then there’s another myth…people say that females who have cats in their house don’t ever get married. And I don’t know how do people draw such crazy conclusions about innocent animals.

Cat was the favourite animal of Holy Prophet (PBUH). In fact, his cat’s name was Muezza & Muezza was a well loved cat. When the Holy Prophet gave sermons, Muezza used to sit on his laps. And Hazrat Umar said that he was even answerable to God, if a dog in his vicinity went to sleep thirsty. These examples tell us a lot about cats & dogs & how they should be treated. It’s another thing that we accept one thing that suits us & discards another thing that might benefit someone else.
