Just A Few Stones and Pebbles

Last night I read about this news about a man from Pakistan who has been looking for his missing sons from 2009. This man, Fazlur Rehman is from Haripur district and he has filed a petition in the court asking authorities to release two of his sons. He does not even know where they are and if they are alive or not.

He said that two of his sons were picked by officials when their house was raided in November 2009. The officials also asked him to bring his third son to  the station. Apparently, by the next day the third son was also picked up by unknown men and one of his sons who were previously arrested returned home.

Since then, the father has been asking the authorities to return his sons. He was allowed to meet them once when he was blindfolded and taken to an undisclosed location because he asked various parties to help him. But never heard of them or their whereabouts from anyone.

According to the father, there is no criminal case registered against his sons and so their detention is illegal. It can't be really said why his sons were targeted and if they were involved in some big plan. The updates on the net or most publications have just copy pasted the father's petition. I couldn't find any information on what did the sons actually do or are they some sort of terrorists.

It is not this particular case, but the sad part is people go on missing as if they are some stones and pebbles without an identity and presence. Boys, girls and children -they all go through the same shit depending on their circumstances and luck. I don't think anything will be done in this regard as well. We have now accepted the hopelessness of our society. I wonder how many other places like our country exist world wide where we talk so much about humanity and good things and in reality everything is so fucked up really.

No Justice Delivered

I will just give an update on the sad Sialkot tragedy, in which the two young brothers Mughees and Muneeb Butt were beaten to death brutally. The video was very much out there for everyone to view, whether to choose to watch it or not.

I kept on asking my sister where will this case go and she did console that the video is the biggest proof and this case will be sorted out well. The boys and their family will get justice.

There was a lot of drama. Too many stories were told about the incident. Some people even ran off. The police officials were also not accounted for. Then there were appointments of new officials for this case. People also thought the judiciary will definitely resolve this case to set an example for the rest. The old report was that the court did announce that the two boys were no robbers, as many people claimed.

Anyhow, I did see the updates from an Oct 3rd updated article. The family has not received any justice though they do receive threatening calls time and again. So, it seems this case, in our flawed system will not get the justice.

Behind the bars

2, 3 days ago I read this story about a man being released from jail after 38 years. This man was arrested in 1971 for some murder but there was no evidence against him. He was never put to trial & as is obvious he rusted in jail for years.

When Qadir Khan toured the central jail in 1999, he discovered that this particular man has been in jail for almost 28 years without any trial whatsoever.

Despite absence of witnesses, record, a police file& other legal requirements, the accused faced the trial for 12 more years due to legal lacunas, & lethargic process.

By the way, his name is Saeed-ul-Haq & he has lost the power of speech. He doesn’t have any family. This is what happens in a country where judges & lawyers come out on the road for petty issues & fun. They say that they don’t have enough courtrooms & yet they have the time to play politics.
