1991– Croatia and Slovenia declare their independence from Yugoslavia.

you see? ….you see what i did there? i so badly wanted to post something pertaining to this topic that i posted a song with little relevance, but has a video of it being performed live in Solvenia.

allow me to explain my ardency: my boyfriend is from Novi Sad, Yugoslavia. err, Serbia. err, i don’t know what to say since Yugoslavia doesn’t exist anymore, but he wasn’t born in Serbia, he was born in Yugoslavia and emigrated to Canada before it even became Serbia. at least, i think he left before it became Serbia. i can’t remember. s’matter a’fact, Croatia and Slovenia have very little to do with him. if you were ever to put him in the same room as a Croatian i would expect nothing less than for him to rip his head off. ….for they are mortal enemies. 

at any rate, you can understand my enthusiasm for this subject.

i promise after this that i will limit all entries relating to the boy/my love life. this one just kinda fell into my lap. besides, it was either this or write about the publication of The Diary of a Young Girl (better known as The Diary of Anne Frank) in 1947 or the maiden flight of the rainbow flag representing gay pride in 1978. ….and neither of those hold much pertinence or forbearance in contemporary times.

Italians Are Angry As Croatia Claims Marco Polo

Italians are quite furious when they saw Croatia tried to claim the legendary explorer Marco Polo as one of their own.

It all happened when a museum dedicated to Marco Polo in the Chinese city of Yangzhou was opened not by Italian dignitaries but by a former president of Croatia - Stjepan Mesic.

It is said that the exact date and place of Marco Polo's birth are still unknown but most people believe he came from Venice. Some say he was born on the island of Korcula on the Adriatic coast, which is now known as Croatia.

This museum was built in Yangzhou because Marco Polo was an official there from 1282 to 1284. However, when Mesic inaugurated the museum he described Polo as 'a world explorer, born in Croatia who opened up China to Europe'.

Thus, this statement has led to an unpleasant situation. Italian publications have described this Croatian claim to be ridiculous and provocative.

Bullied Teens Dead

I read this sad piece on msn updates. It was about this teenage girl in Ohio, Sladjana Vidovic who was bullied at school so badly that eventually she ended up committing suicide in 2008. She hung herself to death by jumping off outside her bedroom window and tying the rope against the bed post. Her sister and family saw her hanging there dead. And obviously their lives have never remained the same since then.

She was 16. Apparently, the family had shifted from Croatia. The bullies at Mentor High School made fun of her accent, called her Slutty Jana or Slut-Jana-Vagina, threw food at her. In her time at Mentor High School, she was pushed off the stairs by a boy, smacked on the face by a bottle, received calls that she would wake up dead in the morning, told they will see her after school and much more.

Her friend at school said, she did use to stand up but eventually lost strength of fighting back with the non stop insults. Her parents complained to the management at school but nothing happened. They could not control the bullies. In fact, two years after her death, they have no records of complaints and they claim they lost track due to change in hardware.

Her sister remembers how the bitchy bullies came to her casket and laughed at how she looked even after she had died.

However, this was not the first incident. 4 teens had committed suicided at Mentor High School due to the on going, un-monitored bullies. Another boy, Eric Mohat was bullied and constant told that he was gay. He too committed suicide.

These two families are filing a case against the school. They have suffered and their kids suffered even more. I hope they get justice for their kids. Such incidents are very common. Bullies are out there all the time every where. Imagine how these sucky bullies will turn out to be as adults. Very dirty scoundrels.
