Over the weekend we were lucky enough to catch up with upcoming Jamaican dancehall artist Terro 3000. Having previously featured on UK dancehall/reggae blogs Shimmy Shimmy and Why Delila, Terro spoke to us about his early days, the breakthrough singles and what he’s got planned for the near future.

What age did you start clashing?

I started clashing at a very young age, about 6 or 7 when i started. In Jamaica clashing is where most people start their musical journey. I started by singing over my favourite DJs songs. Back then it was more about who could remember the most songs! After doing that for a while I started to develop my writing (I still remember the first song I ever wrote!). Then I moved to high school and that’s where the birth of Terro took place. Clashes were done every lunch time. Classes were barred off and filled with students beating the desks to make riddims.

Who were your influences at a young age?

There are so many: Shabba, Bounty Killa, Beenie Man, Spragga Benz, Terror Fabulous, Daddy Screw, Buju, General Degree, Tiger. There’s too much to list. When I was young I really didn’t have a favourite artist, I just loved a lot of music and all those artists play a part in what I am today.
