TNEA 2011

More than 1.48 lakh boys and girls who have applied for the Tamil Nadu Engineering Admission (TNEA 2011) single window counselling will be issued the unique random number on Monday. The number, generated through a computer programme, is used as a final determinant to break a tie between aspirants in the merit list when they are found to be equal on all other parameters.
Usually the merit list is determined through a cut-off (out of 200) mark derived by taking into account the Maths, Physics and Chemistry scores in the Plus Two exams. When two candidates are tied in the same slot with the same cut-off, then the seniority on the basis of which they would be called for counselling is determined by taking into account the higher marks scored in Mathematics, followed by Physics and Chemistry, in that order. If in all the three subjects, the students had secured equal marks then the fourth optional subject is considered. If academically they are equal, then a candidate who is elder on the basis of date of birth is called first.
In case, the candidates continue to remain tied even after this, then the random number allotted to them is used. The candidate with higher random number will be allowed to attend the counselling first. “The unique random number will be allotted at 9.30 a.m. on Monday.
Aspirants can check
edu/tnea2011> from 10.30 am to ascertain their number.

Higher Education Minister P Palaniappan, who will release the numbers, is also expected to spell out details of the counselling like whether it will be held at Chennai, Madurai, Coimbatore and Tiruchy or in a centralised manner in Chennai.
