Purrfect family: injured dog at Edmonton shelter nurses 5 pups and a kitten
Esperanza had been badly injured when she was hit by a car, but the young dog was still managing to care for her newborn puppies - and a kitten - when she was found on a central Alberta reserve.
Criss Gerwing, who runs a small animal rescue group, discovered the dog earlier this month and couldn't believe it when the canine led her to her blended brood.
"I cried because she was in such bad condition with her leg, but she was obviously nursing her puppies and this kitten," Gerwing told a media outlet.
Gerwing took the entire family to the Edmonton Humane Society, where veterinarians thought they'd have to amputate the mother dog's bad leg.But local vet, Dr. Milton Ness, volunteered to do a special surgery that saved Esperanza's hind quarter.He calls her a "special soul."
"She is such a sweet, sweet dog. She has such a wonderful personality," Randoph said.
"It's amazing when you think about it. You have this dog who is just so giving of herself, caring for these newborn puppies and the kitten, making sure they were cared for even though she was obviously in a lot of pain."
Jacob the cat was already four months old and shouldn't have been nursing at all, so humane society vets weaned him and he's now being cared for by a staff member.
The devoted mother is recovering well. She and her pups will go into foster care after the holidays until permanent homes can be found for them. But the humane society ideally would like Esperanza and Jacob to be adopted together.

Well I saw this pic in the morning & I felt like shit...someone out there is suffering in this way & how she's clinging to that person just breaks my heart.
However, I have some good news...this kitty has been adopted by someone.
Even if we provide home to only one single stray...that would make hell of a difference. Don't let anyone suffer in this manner. We, humans, wait for disasters & then we go out of our way. I think almost on a daily basis, good deeds can be done. Don't wait for calamities...help out wherever you can. Animals & humans both need compassion.

Today a friend forwarded this story about a kitten that has markings which seem like “I Heart Dot”. The kitten has been named Dottie. In fact, Dottie is also the name of the mom. It truly seems that the baby is saying that to the mommy.
There have been other animals too with heart-shaped markings on them.

Well I don’t like animal abusers at all & I hear and read strange cases every now & then. I also don’t see any justification for being so cruel & inhuman. Today my friend narrated this story & I couldn’t help putting it down. It’s a story of a woman who is 29 or 30 now. When she was 13, she was so naïve & abnormally curious that she killed & tortured a couple of animals.
Actually she is quite proud of her achievements even today & she brags about it whenever she can. Anyway at the age 13, she caught this kitten & she wanted to know as to what would happen to it, if she put that creature in the microwave oven. She did what she thought & after some time her younger brother panicked & she let go of the kitten. She thinks that the kitten didn’t die. Besides being so fucking, she’s also not well read. How can she know? You know people are usually very naïve at the age of 13. When her brother took a nap, she put his chick in the oven & the chick died. You’ll get the answer how fucked up she is in a while. After few days, she thought of putting her puppy in the washing machine to find out something. And the puppy also died.

Nevertheless, her abnormal curiosity knows its limits. She doesn’t cut her fingers, toes & legs to satisfy her curiosity. I’m very sorry to say but such people should be either behind the bars or in mental asylums. However, we hardly ever see justice being done as the system is corrupt. I also don’t know whom she’s trying to fool now by telling that she was so naïve when she did the work of the Devil. And I forgot to mention that she was also laughing while she narrated this hideous story of her pathetic life.
Petition to Send a Kitten-Cooker to the Can!!
A cat-hating Bronx teen roasted a helpless kitten alive in a heartless attempt to get revenge on her lesbian lover, authorities said yesterday.Cheyenne Cherry, 17, and an accomplice allegedly broke into the Mott Haven home of ex-gal pal Valerie Hernandez, 19, on May 6.
They tossed her little cat, Tiger Lily, into the oven, then turned it on, authorities said.
"The kitten was burned alive, and it did not happen quickly. It was an agonizing death," said ASPCA Assistant Director Joe Pentangelo.
Cherry and her partner in crime also busted up Hernandez's home, slashing the couch, cutting TV wires and swiping food, sources said.
The invaders left the kitten trying to claw its way out. A fire eventually started in the Tinton Avenue home, and firefighters made the grim discovery.
Cherry was charged with arson, burglary, criminal trespass and felony aggravated animal cruelty. When asked why she did it, she allegedly said, "I don't like cats."
Cheyenne Cherry is a dangerous person. She is the personification of an animal-torturer who wouldn’t think twice about torturing or even killing a person.
Minnie
Minnie is one of our cats & she has been diagnosed with tumor & tomorrow she’s going to have her surgery. It kind of scares the shit out of us. Basically Minne, Princey, Mickey & Fluffy were all born on 24th July’98. A week before their birth, our kitten Chotu was being ran down by our own chauffeur…it was 17th July’ 98. Naturally when these 4 were born, they were more like gifts from the Lord.
Unfortunately, Fluffy died when she was just 7 months old. She got infected by virus & she couldn’t make it. At that time, we were also learning about cats. I was more attached to Princey. Anyone who ever saw him used to fall for him. He had that kind of face & personality. Minnie is my sister’s cat & Mickey is my mom’s baby.
Well Zara & Minnie have a very strong bond. She’s going to turn 11 this year. So far is Mickey is concerned, he has a lot of attitude problem, but he is all love. 2 years ago, Princey died due to urethra blockage; we did whatever we could, but he didn’t survive. That was the worst blow of my life. I have never loved anyone like that. Moreover, Mickey couldn’t take his death & he plunged into depression for 1 & a half year. Mickey is doing fine now, but it took one hell of a long time to get over his brother’s death. The vet told us that cats are so very sensitive…that many a time, they die after the death of their loved ones.
And now we have Minnie who has got tumor. The vet is confident about the surgery & I just hope everything goes okay. In fact, we have changed the vet, cause the first one was not that confident & we were scared as we lost Princey & even another cat Tokyo 2 months ago as his surgery also didn’t go well.
This time we just can’t afford to lose another baby. Although writing this wouldn’t help in any way. We all have been worried about her for quite some time. The thing that would give us contentment would be her life. The surgery is risky though. But we don’t have any other alternative. If she doesn’t go through this surgery, after a couple of months, we have to ask the vet to euthanize her. That is also not a good option. I just hope everything works out this time.
