Dog owners warned over killer worm

Dog owners warned over killer worm

Animal experts are warning dog owners to learn how to spot the tell-tale signs of a killer parasite which is spreading at an "alarming rate" around the UK.

Lungworm, a potentially fatal infection for dogs, has become increasingly diagnosed by vets, the Be Lungworm Aware campaign has warned.
A spokesman said 37 per cent of vets in the UK have diagnosed at least one case of the parasite in 2010 compared to only 16 per cent in 2008.
Vet Luke Gamble said: "Once a problem seen only in isolated areas, lungworm is spreading at an alarming rate in the UK.
"While dog owners are becoming more aware of lungworm, there is still a real lack of understanding as to the warning signs associated with the condition and how to prevent or treat it."
Dogs become infected with lungworm after eating common garden slugs and snails carrying the larvae. A spokesman for the campaign said an infected dog may have breathing difficulties, be lethargic and cough. Other signs include weight loss, fits, reduced appetite, vomiting, diarrhoea, weakness, paralysis and persistent bleeding from minor cuts.
Sarah Wright, editor of Your Dog magazine, said: "While lungworm poses a real risk to all dogs, it can be easily treated if caught early enough and with new advances in veterinary medicine, even prevented.
"With the increasing number of reported incidents, it is more important than ever before that owners are aware of the signs to look out for."

How animals are being rescued with so much passion in Japan

Non-non with her owner. Her owner was devastated when she visited her house, which was completely damaged but Non-non came out of the stairs & started meowing.

Cat Island - this is a place where too many cats & old people lived. It's intact but they all need help & food.
This is the woman who refused to go without her dog Yosuke, because officials wouldn't let take her dog. She didn't leave her pet & after 3 days, they were both rescued.
This man was reunited with his dog. It even came out in the papers. You can clearly see how much the owner loves his baby.
The loyal dog who didn't leave his friend in rubble of earthquake & tsunami

I have been reading several stories of how animals have been rescued in Japan. Everything points only in 1 direction – Japanese are not just hard working people, they also care about animals.

However, situation is bad for animals in Sendai. They are preparing a team to go there with food & supplies. There have been rumors that animals will be euthanized in several areas but it’s far from truth. They have confirmed that no animal will be euthanized. Moreover, they are also trying to create temporary shelters at Animal Friends Niigata to house animals besides trying to reunite lost pets with their owners.

Japan is a nation of pet lovers. Most families have a dog or cat, birds, a rabbit, or other pets in their apartments. At first people had no news about Cat Island which but people & cats of the island have been rescued but need help & food. The small island in Ishinomaki City, Miyagi Prefecture, is also home to many cats & old people. A shrine also exists there which is dedicated to cats.

They also encountered a woman who refused to evacuate as the officials wouldn’t allow her to take her dog Yosuke with her. She didn’t leave Yosuke behind & stayed with the dog in her shaking house for 3 days & the good news is that both of them are okay.

Many people have seen the video of a dog wouldn’t leave his injured friend in the rubbles. Both of them are safe now.

A woman went back to her house to search for her cat. The house was entirely destroyed but thank God, her cat Non-non survived as she was upstairs. The cat was a bit shaken but it’s good to know that Non-non too is safe now with her owner. Another man was reunited with his injured pet dog & that pic can make you cry. I hardly see that kind of compassion for humans here & these people even love their animals like mad.

I’m really proud of Japan & it’s people. I think Japan has set an example for the rest of the world which keeps blabbing when hit by disasters. Japanese are not just fighting with this natural disaster with honor, but they have proud they are one of the most compassionate nations. We sign zillions of petitions in which healthy animals in pretty okay places are being killed & tortured for no reason. I wonder what would they do if some natural calamity hits them. I don’t think such inhuman people can learn anything from Japan but I can’t help ignoring their evil deeds at the moment.

I have a Japanese friend & she has been telling us what’s going on in Japan every day. Places have been completely wiped off. You can’t call any place safe but these people haven’t given up & they are fighting.

Please continue to pray for them. Disasters could happen to anyone.

'Impure' dalmatian angers traditionalists at the elite pedigree dog show

Fiona, a three-year-old is descended from a Dalmatian & a pointer. She is competing to take the title as best in her breed this week. But there is resentment because she is a crossbreed. Many believe she is impure as she has brown spots. I think it’s really ridiculous & they are all such breed conscious idiots.

Paul Heaton, a dalmatian breeder said: ‘It is pretty unethical to allow this dog in a pedigree show. As far as I’m concerned it is an illegal entrant and makes a mockery of the dalmatian breed.’

‘This is a dog that is not pure-bred. This is a mongrel. You can’t cross a dalmatian with a pointer and say it’s a dalmatian. This is unethical and I’d be disgusted if the dog won’ said Anne Harcraft - another breeder.

They all believe she shouldn’t be shown with pedigrees. Even in this century, people just go on discriminating. They neither leave animals nor humans.

The good news is…Fiona carries a gene from the Pointer which protects her from a life-threatening condition. I think this is one remarkable quality but they don’t want anyone to taint the breed. It’s okay if the animal falls sick & dies. They are happy with a sick dog but they can’t stand the idea of a healthy cross breed.

Anyhow, The Kennel Club has allowed Fiona to be registered as a pedigree, because she can bring health benefits to future generations. She has won a couple of regional competitions & she’s very active.

Mrs. Evans said: ‘My efforts have been unpopular. Breeders and clubs don’t want impure dogs and they see this genetic modification as interfering with the breed. It is interfering, but it is to introduce a healthy gene. I hope one day I can persuade them it is the right thing to do.’

I think introducing a healthy gene is far better than having sick dogs, but we have innumerable breed conscious folks who are just too stuck up to think about the health of a dog. They have more complexes about what is pure & what is impure. It’s ironic that they are ones talking about ethics. In this case, genetic modification will help dogs in the long run. I’m glad they have allowed Fiona to participate in spite of so much resentment on the part of breed conscious idiots.

Bulgaria is nothing but hell for animals

This is something that happens in Bulgaria every day. Even prominent journalists believe that love for animals is illegal & so they think it’s okay to torture & kill animals on a daily basis.

I’m sorry for sharing these graphic pics but I don’t see any way of expressing myself. I just don’t have words. Go through this entire album on FB & you would know what I mean. This is so fucked up. Animals deserve love & respect & these people have crossed all the limits; they insult humanity every day & it just goes on.

They kill healthy animals just like that. It means nothing. I think even hell would be a lot better, cause God can never be unfair. I’m simply ashamed of humans. There is no hope.

Famous Celebrities with Pets

Liv Tyler looks like she’s having a grand ol’ time frolicking in the snow, but her pup Neal looks like he could use two pairs of doggy snow boots. Brrr!

Reese Witherspoon: “Oh, Bruiser, I’m so happy to see you! It’s been so long since we both starred in ‘Legally Blonde.’ Those were the days, right?”
Bruiser: “Yeah, whatever lady. I was told there’d be Snausages at this thing. Looks like I was foiled again.”
Even Elvis the Koala knows that if Oprah Winfrey is embracing you, you hold on for dear life. Or at least until she gives you a free car and an iPad.

Neil Patrick Harris, David Burtka, their twins and their pooches take an adorable family stroll — just the six of them.
Paris Hilton owns multiple pocket pooches — so many in fact that she has one for every day of the week. Hey you have to match your pet to your outfit, right?
Parker Posey gives her curly furred buddy a rest from walking on the freezing New York sidewalk.
You wouldn’t know this is Natalie Portman all bundled up on the streets of New York, but there’s no mistaking her adorable little Yorkie, Whizz.

Selma Blair and her horse Taffy are the best of friends, though we’re sure there won’t be much riding going on now that she’s got baby no. 1 on the way.
Kelsey Grammer’s pup may be teeny-tiny, but he sure has a way of getting the veteran actor all tangled up
kristin Cavallari really hopes her precious little pup Rocco doesn’t do his business right in front of the paparazzi. The last thing Kristin needs is pics of her pooper-scooping in all the tabloid magazines.
Michael Douglas braves the freezing-cold New York weather to make sure the family pooch gets some exercise…oh, and so he doesn’t soil the carpet.
You think a guy with guns like Lorenzo Lamas would be caught walking a little fluff ball named Fifi? No way, he’s more of a pit-bull-named-Diablo kind of guy.
Kelly Bensimon has an impromptu snuggle with her black lab and, coincidentally, paparazzi cameras just happen to be there to document the whole thing.
As if Hugh Jackman and his silly daughter Ava weren’t adorable enough running around the streets of New York, the family had to go and get Peaches, the cutest French bulldog in existence.
Elisabetta Canalis could leave her pooch at home while she shops at designer stores, but then who would be her style consultant? Everyone knows that Miniature Pinschers have the best fashion sense.
Audrina Patridge introduces her little “Lady” to her brand-new ginormous dog mansion, courtesy of Bongo Jeans. Hey, celebrity endorsement deals also pay off for their pets!
Most people leave their dogs with a sitter to avoid the hassle of taking the pooches on an airplane, but not devoted dog dad Adrian Grenier. Why leave home without your best friend?

What a sad pic!

You could clearly see sadness in the eyes of this poor dog. It’s true we cannot help each & every animal in this world, but we can contribute little bit.

Lately we did contact some organization abroad & that guy showed interest but he asked us to contact some Pakistani representative who would know more about the country & could help easily. Building a proper animal shelter is indeed a tough job. But we know vets who are willing to help & these vets know people who are willing to donate. What we need is some space. Anyhow, Pakistanis have no passion whatsoever. Every Pakistani representative gives us the email of another representative. Fine. You cannot move your ass. We get the picture.

It’s saddening that people are working in such organizations & they don’t want to help out animals at all in their own country. Now we have to contact that other guy again.

I also know some other people who try to help out animals, but even they say they are all alone in it. Either people do big talk or they give you emails of other people. How can you bring about a change with this kind of approach? A particular person for the past 3 years has been running from pillar to post & nothing has been done. This must be so depressing for her.

You can only provide home to 30 or 40 animals in your house, but that’s it. We can’t accommodate hundreds of animals. In these so-called posh areas, they kill dogs just like that. And, for the most part, those dogs are not even dangerous. We used to give food to some dogs & puppies & they were all killed by these bastards. I wonder if there is an end to this madness.

Harry Potter pets

This is such a cute idea. I’m a fan of Harry Potter, but my siblings can’t stand Harry Potty. That’s what they call him. This is one of the reasons why I hardly get to watch the movies on it. However, I don’t like J. K. Rowling as such. She very conveniently steals from here & there, & then she gets away with it as well. And to this day I can’t understand as to why Dumbledore was shown gay in the last book. Moreover, J. K. Rowling was seen wearing T-shirt that read Dumbledore is gay. What could be more absurd than that! It just didn’t look good on her. I don’t think bad of gays. I’m totally on their side, but I don’t think this kind of change was required in the book. Plus her obsession with Holy Grail & depicting Harry as someone having royal-cum-pure blood was annoying. But anyway, she has written good books after stealing from others.
