China Shuns Rushdie's Human Rights Lecture

China has reacted to Salman Rushdie's article that he wrote for The Telegraph this month in which he wrote that China is the world's biggest threat to freedom of speech.

China's embassy in London responded with an open letter titled, 'Human Rights lecture not needed'. China denounced Rushdie's call for the release of Ai Weiwei, the Chinese artist who has been detained since April 3rd.

China feels this is interference in its judicial independence and violates its judicial sovereignty. China, therefore does not accept what Salman Rushdie wrote. China is a country under the rule of law. The basic rights and freedoms of Chinese citizens, including freedom of expression are protected by the law as they claim. China feels its people have immense amount of freedom to express whatever they like.

Wow, I feel China is definitely a country that does not allow freedom of speech to its people. People are locked up and threatened. They are not allowed to speak freely, use twitter and facebook openly. And Ai Weiwei detention was just another case of China's intolerance. Same goes for its treatment of animals and animal torture that takes place there more than often.

Release Ai Weiwei Chinese Government

Ai Weiwei

Ai Weiwei's famous work - Bird's Nest

Ai Weiwei is the most famous artist in China, best known for his iconic "Bird's Nest" stadium that was the focal point of the Beijing Olympics.

Ai has always pushed the envelope, both with his internationally-acclaimed art and with his outspoken criticism of the Chinese government.

But these past weeks have brought Beijing's harshest crackdown on dissidents in more than a decade. And on April 3rd, government agents arrested Ai at the Beijing airport and seized papers and computers from his studio.

We don't know where Ai is now. The Chinese government is holding him on flimsy charges of "economic crimes" -- an allegation often used to silence dissenters.

Twelve leading figures in the international arts world, including the directors of the Guggenheim, Metropolitan Museum of Modern Art, and Tate Museum, have started a petition on Change.org demanding that the Chinese government free Ai Weiwei.

The regime in Beijing has proven largely resistant to pressure from foreign governments. But they've made a huge push to raise China's profile in the arts -- the government just finished building the world's largest art museum. Widespread condemnation, led by the arts community, may be our best chance to save his life.

Please sign the petition to free Ai Weiwei as soon as possible:

Tell Clinton to Help Free Wangchen and Dhondup

Tashi Dhondup

Dhondup Wangchen

Two Tibetan artists were arrested for peacefully expressing their political opinions.

Tashi Dhondup is a popular singer from the eastern Tibetan region of Amdo. He was arrested following the 2009 release of a CD containing songs which included lyrics calling for the Dalai Lama's return to Tibet and lamenting that "There is no freedom in Tibet."

Plainspoken businessman Dhondup Wangchen bought a small camera and began interviewing monks and yak herders for his documentary film Leaving Fear Behind. He bravely gave a voice to Tibetans living under China's rule. Sadly, after finishing the film, he was arrested and his own voice was silenced.

U.S. Secretary of State Clinton will soon be meeting with Chinese officials. Ask her to press for the release Dhondup Wangchen and Tashi Dhondup, and for respect of the rights to freedom of expression and fair trial in future cases.

Take Action and sign the following petition if you believe in freedom of speech:

China Creating Marriage Database to Expose Cheaters

The government in China is creating a marriage database, which it hopes will be a useful tool to expose cheaters. As the wealth in the country has exploded, it has created a culture of secret mistresses and second wives, even though bigamy in China is illegal.

According to a recent report, Beijing and Shanghai will be among the first places to put a marriage database online this year. The plan is to have records for all of China online by 2015.

Can’t say if exposing cheaters will solve the problem? Those who cheat on their spouses will find a way to cheat no matter what. However, it’s good that China is taking this step. It would be so much better if they would do something kind for animals in their country as well.

Moreover, it’s just not in China, we all know there are women who accept their husbands & have no problem with cheating, cause they have this mentality that at the end of the day my husband will come back to me.

I think the best way to spite your unfaithful spouse/loved one is to have some fun with someone else for a while. You don’t have to have real fun or an affair…you can just pretend. This gives instant result. Or you can just leave the person but that is not very easy, particularly if you have kids & you are greedy. Speaking of which reminds me of women who keep an eye on their loose husbands & only get headaches & tensions. Just what’s the use if shit returns to you at the end of the day? Everything is tainted now. Love above everything else is the biggest joke of the century.

China Introduces One Dog Policy

Good lord, I got to know such terrible news. I read that China has introduced a ONE DOG Policy now, similar to the One Child Policy that was already implemented for 20 years or more. Their reason being to control and manage living space since the dog population is over 800,000 and many dogs are not registered.

They feel too many dogs is unhealthy, therefore, one household can have only one dog. No more, no less. The puppies to be given to no dog households or government approved agencies before they are 3 months old.

I am wondering now, these Chinese are so brutal. How will the dogs have babies when there is only 1 dog per household? Perhaps they want to have just another reason to skin alive innocent animals or eat up dog meat and they try to act up all responsible by saying they are controlling and saving their society's environment. In a country, where women are forcibly taken away to abort their pregnancy in the 8th month without their consent, I am pretty sure, when it comes to controlling animal population they would be more brutal.

This is equally bad and abnormal like those puppy mills we see. Some residents and animal lovers in China have complained that rather than implementing such laws, the government needs to educate people about pet care, neutering animals etc so that the population is controlled.

Well, I don't know about others...I am not so happy to hear this.

Chinese Woman Forced To Have Abortion At Eight Months

This is so insane, I just read on twitter that a pregnant woman in China was forcibly taken from her home by a dozen people. She was kept in detention for three days by family planning officials. She was then taken to a hospital and forcibly given a drug that killed her baby. All this was done because the couple already had a daughter and China is very rigid on its one child policy.

People who refuse to abide by the law lose their jobs, property and money because China believes in controlling its population growth and this has been practiced for the last 30 years. As robotic as it sounds, it is obviously quite in human.

Recently people, very few have them started speaking their mind through the virtual media and social campaigners.

Like I say time and again, inhumanity is so common. We have entire nations and countries working to promote it. It is just an insane world.

Puppy of the week!

“I have discovered that China & Spain are really one & the same country, & it’s only ignorance that leads people to think that they’re two different nations. If you don’t believe me, then try & write ‘Spain’ & you’ll end up writing ‘China.’ Apart from all this, I’m very annoyed by an event that’s due to take place at 7 o’clock tomorrow. A strange phenomenon: the earth is going to land on the moon.”
