Heading To Montego Bay Today

Be there

Bob Marley and the Wailers ‘Three Little birds’

What better way to start the week?

Currently in Kingston, Jamaica for vacation. Gonna head to Mo Bay with my dad and my brother in like half an hour.

I really should eat a well rounded breakfast.

But I didn’t feel like eating any of the stuff in the house, so far I’ve drank three cups of water to try and fill my stomach, but that hasn’t worked. I have a stash of plantain chips and Big Foots(Jamaican cheetos is the closest thing I can say?) in the car. The car ride will be a few hours, but I’ll get to take pics and such. Oh! Maybe I can upload some to Tumblr now…

Good idea Tumblr, you’re so smart.

one love.

Gyptian - Acoustic Session

A strange connection to the World
Feeling and seeing as you may not.
Among the dreams of the fallen
Do we all fall in to utter death.
Forged my dreams by night and
Dreamed in day. I’ve run out of dreams
Searching any where for something to
Look at in my mind and now
My death is my dreams and
My innocence is taken; I’m scared.
Famine from Light, abundance of
Black and words a-fire molded
My sanity to fluctuate
Between colours of all shades.
Painted masks at arms reach;
A traveler of Souls.

Music is a universal language. Doesn’t matter your nationality, race, male or female. Red Bull Tum Tum Pa gathered 150 students from different parts of the world in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, to show that music really is a universal language.
The runner-up team also had rhythm in their blood and Bob Marley as music idol, Ground Zero, from Jamaica said “We love drumming and reggae and we’re glad Brazilians like this too!”The Kingston Universities/Colleges that participated in the local Red Bull Tum Tum Pa competition were the University of the West Indies, University of Technology, Edna Manley School of Arts, MICO Teachers College.

Feel the rhythm! Feel the rhyme! Get on up, its bobsled time!...

(Going to our place in Jamaica, there were a few little graves that were inset some trees. It was sad and inspiring at the same time. It was a common sight to see graves placed about.)

Three graves, side by side.
Lost in trees; known only by
Those who placed them there.

Birth date is the same,
As well as death dates; Each
Grave is two feet long.

A lone ship in the sea.
Sky high among ice berg clouds.
Navigating around the icy
Dangers that might harm us.
On the horizon, land blurs
Into the sky reaching as far
As infinity might dare.
But what happens in the land of Blur?

Do the monsters of the
night live there and
May leave only at night when
All the Earth is cast into Haze?
It is uncharted except by the
Souls lostin this sea, sky high.
Always just out of reach.
A destination unsure less you
Lose yourself in Haze and
Let the Monsters hold you.
Monsters can torment in these
Seas, Just the same.

Cabin rocking in
North-Western winds.
Souls of the sky making
Us rise and fall, lulling
A spell of sleep on passengers.
Poseidon allows passage.
Make berth on land for
Away, adventures await!

Under a red sky of curtains
Does the floor shift beneath feet.
Oblivious to danger do
Humans lives come and go.
Blissfully ignorant of worries
That infect the flux of the world.
Unable to part the sky when you
Cannot see light before you.
Voices mask colours of brilliance
With monotonous colours of gray.
Shapeless lives; blurring lines.
Open your eyes of you want to know
The world and care for it.
But get lost too far and
You will never be any help.

“Some things were meant to be so why not let them be

and stop worrying about it. As Long as we know what’s in our hearts

We know our inner thoughts,

 no reason for concern, no.

..if you know that love is deep within

Why should you worry what the folks will say?

When they see me with you..”

Mavado's bail extended:

Dancehall act Mavado is scheduled to return to the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate’s Court on November 21 on a charge of assault occasioning bodily harm stemming from a recent altercation at a popular nightclub in New Kingston where he reportedly assaulted an off-duty police officer.

A member of the entertainer’s entourage, Conroy Edwards, was shot in his abdomen during the June 13 incident, and succumbed to his injuries three days later in hospital.

Ninjaman benefit concert:

The entertainment fraternity is coming together to raise funds for embattled deejay Ninjaman who remains in lock-up on charges relating to a murder in 2009.

(going through some pics from my past visit to jamaica.. one of the most precious times of my life.)

Lee-Chin, Chairman of NCB (National Commercial Bank, Jamaica) recently discussed the impact of NCB being listed on an international exchange, the NYSE or the TSX (Toronto Stock Exchange) in an interview. The benefits of such are;

  • Being the first Caribbean company to be listed on an international exchange
  • Being the First company to raise capital on a global exchange (as it will be an IPO)
  • Psychological boost to the country and local companies
  • Ability for NCB to be compared with their international peers (on a stock basis)… and all banks in the world, who are valued differently
  • NCB would be a part of a bigger market as Jamaica has an inefficient illiquid market
  • Shareholders would be able to trade shares internationally
  • Shareholders would be able to borrow against those shares (margins), and at US$ rates (about 3%).

You can see the interview here http://www.allmediaservicesltd.com/seyret/videodirectlink/523-an-economic-gamechanger-for-jamaica.html

Jamaica: Televangelist Paul Lewis walks free despite compelling DNA evidence against him in a case of child sexual abuse. Paul Lewis thanked God for his acquittal but CODE RED has a different take on why DNA evidence was not enough to secure a conviction:

No matter what DNA evidence the defense brought it did not stand a chance against the belief, held by many, that a 14/15 year old is not a child and can either consent to sex or is considered “fair game”. Pun intended. I don’t think for a minute there was any doubt that he did in fact have sex with the girl in the presence of the other teen. But convincing people that that is wrong, an abusive of power and that it is rape, that is the hurdle the defense team faced. God had nothing to do with Paul Lewis’ acquittal. The UNICEF report on attitudes to child sexual abuse and incest in the Caribbean explains why Paul Lewis walked free.

Compound Entertainment

Ne-Yo

In his pursoot to globalize his label’s talent pool, Ne-Yo has just launched Compound Island, the Caribbean version of his label Compound Entertainment. He intends to promote music from Jamaica and from the Islands around the world. He plans to give artists a chance to showcase their talent through an online talent search.

“Reggae music is global music; you can go anywhere to hear it. You can go to Australia and hear it.” said Ne-Yo.

Bounty Killa, Ghetts, Shystie, a bunch of other people - “Limb by Limb”

I guess the cool kids are calling this stuff “post-Dancehall” - Dancehall guys singjaying over non-“Dancehall” beats, often alongside UK grime dudes and ladies. Not sure if this supercedes the Funky Bashment subgenre or not.

Unrelated: for whatever reason, huge posse tracks by American rappers almost always bore me, but when Road Rap/Grime dudes do it I’m all over it. Probably because I hate America?

Only in Jamaica - I’m willing to bet there is a 108-inch plasma TV on the wall and a washer-dryer to boot. Why invest in a concrete structure? Bloom where you are planted. That’s the lesson I’ve taken from this pic. Please don’t overlook the solar panel on the roof.

WOOOOHOO!! Watching The Wailers in concert laterrrrrrr!!!
