“Nice” is the bare minimum standard that we as individuals in an integrated society should maintain every day of our lives.  It’s nice to notice “nice” in the world…but what a sad commentary it is that simple acts of common decency seem so rare to people that they feel compelled to offer compliments, gratitude and even awards for them.

I am nice (yet fallible with all the frustrations and inconsistencies that go with being human)—and I appreciate when my niceness it is recognized by others.  However, please do not apply heroism to what is the very least I should be.

Being nice is its own reward.

just browsing (by ohhhsonya)

Made all of these beads and just finished stringing them.

i’ve been looking around for a sweet skeleton key to wear and found this today: a powder-coated enamel key. super heavy, dark purple. perfect? i think so.

Yves Saint Laurent’s textured gold Arty rings are absolute...

(via quartz crystal point necklace by NatalieKucken on Etsy)

First Jewelmint order ever! :) :) I’m excited.

Newest love for summer:  leather earrings. I love their colors, texture, large size—pretty much everything about them. You can basically create anything out of a square of leather and make them any color you want to boot, whether by using colored leather or slapping on some pretty paint.

I’m pretty drawn to the feather shaped earrings, as well as the tassels. I recently purchased a pair feather earrings from CyclonaDesigns and can’t wait for them to arrive!

Here are some of my favorites…

1. Cliolunia; 2. CyclonaDesigns; 3. EarthArtistry; 4. TheifandBandit;
5. FlagMountain; 6. TomGirl

Grab some and have fun, ladies!

These are cats who were recently brought into the ACC. They are NOT on death-row yet, but many will be if they aren't rescued.

You can go into the shelter and adopt these cats IF they are over 8wks old (though I'd still suggest calling first to make sure the cat's available for direct adoption) but generally, if the cat's NOT on death row and is OVER 8wks old you can adopt it outright without needing a rescue to pull

Note that if their stray hold isn't up yet the animal won't be released until it's up!

Sushi

This sweet and gentle cat has her own agenda, and it does not necessarily involve sitting on anyone's lap. Sushi is independent and curious, but she'll come by to rub against your leg and receive head scratches. She is getting pretty fed up of hanging out in her kennel, so she asks politely, in her sweet voice, if you would please let her out. Her mellow disposition makes her a good match for a family with older children and possibly other pets; we know she's okay with other cats.

Jax

Jax is a handsome white kitty with a few black spots. Before he came to the shelter, he was living in a feral colony near Golden Gate Fields. Once he arrived, the volunteers soon discovered that not only is he tame, but he is a total lovebug. Jax purrs easily and he loves sitting on laps and being petted. He can get over stimulated sometimes, so any attention needs to be on his terms. Things will go smoothly if you let him be the boss! Jax is very playful and loves feather toys. He would do best in a quiet adult household, but he is also okay with mellow, non-aggressive cats. He should be indoor only because his beautiful pink nose is susceptible to skin cancer if he gets too much sun.

Quick-thinking cat saves house from fire... by opening the window

A clever cat has been hailed a hero after he prevented his owners' home from burning down - by opening a window.

Five-year-old Pepper has learned to open windows and lets himself out every night by hopping on to a kitchen worktop and using his paws to turn the latch.

So when a fire broke while his owners were Christmas shopping, the quick-thinking puss leapt into action and opened the window to allow the acrid smoke to escape.

'Pepper is still a bit spooked by the ordeal but is still managing to eat plenty of food.'

Sharon said: 'We put something in the microwave for ten minutes and then popped out to do our Christmas shopping in the local town.

'I discovered on the way that I had left my purse at home but decided not to turn around.

'It was my sister-in-law who lives next door that rang us about two hours into our trip and said you had better get home as there is quite a lot of smoke coming out of your house and the fire brigade are here.

'We are thankful our neighbours did not just dismiss the smoke as a bonfire.'

Stefan Belsten, of Devon and Somerset fire service, said: 'If Pepper hadn't opened the window the fire would have developed quite a lot.'
