Make yourself unstoppable.

Ran 3 miles. Walked 2. Jumped rope for 25 minutes.

Ate a tablespoon of cinnamon… for fun, at the boys house. Haha. Saw it on Tosh.O and I said, “Why the hell not?”

It burned. Like, oh my lord, did it burn. Haha, but it was good fun.

No practice until Saturday or maybe Friday. :(
Gonna be jumping rope at my house. But it’s not the same. Haha.

I’m… Like… BEAT.

Sooooo, night loves.

Arize - Ingredient And Advantages Of The Product:

A costumer must usually possess the mentality of evaluating the product first before quickly purchasing it. The very best method to do this is to study online and understand all of the information concerning the product. Essentially, the comprehensive explanation introduced through the manufacturer regarding their product is not sufficient so it’s also perfect to gain information by going to other retailing websites also as weblog websites. With this, you’ll be able to augment your information concerning the product you’d prefer to purchase and this could assist you to create a wise purchasing choice. So when you have any interest…

Let me just remark upon the oddity that is arm and hand sweat.

Like, what the fuck.

I was doing Insanity as usual when I noticed that my arms were glistening. I swiped a shaking hand across my right arm and noticed I’d been sweating on my hands and arms.

Uh, gross.

Not only was my face covered in the stuff (that’s what she said, by the way), but my hands and arms, too? I think this is super-scientific proof that Insanity works. One day I will meet Shaun effing T and tell him that all his workouts made my hands and arms sweat and that this had never happened before and dear God, does he know how sexy he is?

Anywho, I’ve discovered this new joke of a tv show called Jerseylicious. If you don’t know about it, all you need to know is that it features a bunch of Jersey hairstylists/makeup artists who dress like carbon copies of Snooki and specialize in the art of loud and trashy confrontation; they are also masters of the ‘smokey eye,’ which is really just a fancy way of saying ‘overzealous application of black eye shadow .’ It’s a good time, mostly just because these women (sometimes men) dress so… er, exotically

I mean that in the best way, I really do.

Difference between wanting and needing:

I’m dirsty:

  • I NEED water.
  • I WANT diet coke.

I feel a little bit weak:

  • I NEED sugar as in fruits.
  • I WANT sugar as in chocolate.

I’m hungry:

  • I NEED food.
  • I WANT junk food.

I’m not that hungry:

  • I NEED to wait for dinner.
  • I WANT to go for a snak like some chips or something.

I’m bored:

  • I NEED to work out, take a walk, etc.
  • I WANT to stay in my couch and watch TV.

Always remember:

“NOT EVERYTHING YOU WANT IS WHAT YOU NEED AND NOT EVERYTHING YOU NEED IS WHAT YOU WANT

So as you can see from my last post (the picture of the grocery cart), I’m still making an effort to eat healthy. Luckily for me, I have an amazing grandmother who’s house I stay at all the time, and she’s been so great at helping me eat healthy. She took me grocery shopping with her and let me get whatever I wanted to continue on this healthy journey. Of course the whole cart wasn’t mine, but having so many options is making it a bit easier mentally.

I’ll be honest, I DID have a plate of rice for lunch this afternoon, but I was starving and there was nothing to eat. But after we went grocery shopping I made a salad and grilled chicken for dinner. Not the most satisfying dinner, but still good. Even though all this healthy eating is making me hungry like all the time, I think with time my body will adjust to the new portions and content that I’m eating and I won’t feel so hungry.

All in all I did pretty well today! I avoided buying sodas, ice cream, chocolate, candy, white bread, pasta, cookies (except for 1 box which I’ll have every once in a while as like a reward or something), high-sugar cereal, and basically anything else I would’ve jumped at before.

I know chicken is good to eat, but what else is healthy for big meals? I don’t like fish (I know, that really limits things), and if anyone could give me more food ideas as opposed to saying like protein, calcium, etc. (cause I don’t know what has that), I’d really appreciate it! Thoughts?

My skin is always something I’ve been complimented on. (And I want to be a Dermatologist). SO, here’s what I use. It’s all God’s tools, so I take no credit. I get an aloe vera leaf from a plant and trim the top off. Then I extract the clear goo on the inside and place it into a bowl. Then I refridgerate it and apply it to my skin every night before bed. I also use apricot oil two to three times a week on my skin. Even my face.

Snack: clover leaf dill and lemon tuna.

Ok. This was disgusting. Note to self: don’t try all flavors.

I ate it all because protein is protein. I needed protein in my diet.

I had a terrible night last night with pain and I wasn’t able to sleep much. I got out of bed at 5:30am and walked around a bit and my boyfriend got up and made me a new hot water bottle and after a little while I went back to bed where I slept for 3 hours.

I got up and showered but didn’t eat breakfast, instead we just went straight to the x-ray place where I had an x-ray done of my abdomen. The lady told me that not everything shows up on an x-ray and that I shouldn’t be suprised if I get told to have an ultrasound. I have piled up on All-Bran cereal to try and fill my body with fibre incase this is gas related but I have never felt pain like this in relation to gas, I have however felt this pain when I used to have gallbladder attacks. I have been told by the doctor that even though I have had my gallbladder removed, it is possible for me to still pass gallstones.

I shall be going back to the doctor towards the end of the week and hopefully there will be a solution to my problem. At this point some sleeping pills would be nice.

Porcelain Veneers

Your smile can be your biggest asset and your very best feature. There are quite a few ways to boost your smirk such as braces, tooth brightening, etc., but sometimes these strategies are not sufficient to accomplish the smirk you want. With porcelain veneers it is easy to change the form and coloration of your enamel. Porcelain veneers are quite well-liked among celebrities, especially singers, where many attention goes to their mouth. However, now porcelain veneers are a lot more economical and starting to be much more typical everywhere. Any person who is own conscious regarding their smirk can benefit from porcelain veneers.

Porcelain veneers can fix anything from chipped teeth to gaps in between tooth and discoloration. The process of porcelain veneers begins with finding a dentist that you trust and that understand what you are trying to achieve in getting your set of veneers. Bring in magazine cut-out of what you would like your smile to look like to help give the dentist a visual idea. Your dentist will then take x-rays, impressions and examine your current teeth to see what options you will have and figure out how to construct your set of porcelain veneers.

Once you and your dentist have determined the look you want the dentist will construct the porcelain veneers which can take up to two weeks. When they are finished you will make an appointment to have them installed. The dentist in Oklahoma City will trim off a thin layer of enamel off of your teeth, about the same thickness of the veneers that will be placed there. They will then test the veneers and make any adjustments to them before applying the bonding agent. Once they fit perfectly, the teeth will get cleaned and etched in order to give the cement bonding agent a rough surface to adhere to. The pediatric dentist lincoln uses a unique light to activate the bonding in between the tooth and the porcelain veneer.

This happens allllll the time, honey. Use a new or sharp razor every time (apparently, if you run a disposable razor the opposite way against your jeans it’ll ‘sharpen it’), shave at the end of the shower when the hair is softer and your pores are open, and lather up with a sensitive skin shaving lotion. Aside from that, you can either wax, use an electric razor, I think there’s sensitive Nair, and someone even mentioned a sugar scrub thingy. Above all, choose what you want to do. It’s your body.

Teens’ Unhealthy Eating Behaviors Continue into Adulthood:

Teens who engage in unhealthy and excessive weight control behaviors — such as binge eating— continue doing so into young adulthood and beyond, according to a study conducted by University of Minnesota researchers.

“The findings from the current study argue for early and ongoing efforts aimed at the prevention, early identification, and treatment of disordered eating behaviors in young people,” commented lead investigator Dianne Neumark-Sztainer, Ph.D., M.P.H., R.D.

Researchers examined the records for 1,030 young men and 1,257 young women using data from Project EAT-III (Eating and Activity in Teens and Young Adults), a 10-year longitudinal study developed to examine eating, activity, and weight-related factors among young people. Subjects were largely between 13 and 16 years old at the beginning of the study, and 23 to 26 years old when it ended.

Participants answered questions about dieting, extreme weight control methods such as fasting, using food replacements and skipping meals, and out-of-control binge eating. Data concerning socioeconomic, gender, age, and race/ethnicity factors was also included.

Approximately half of the females reported dieting in the past year compared to about one-fourth of the males. The occurrence of dieting stayed fairly consistent from adolescence through young adulthood for females in both age groups. Among males, the prevalence of dieting remained constant over time in the younger age group, but increased in the older group as they aged from middle adolescence to middle young adulthood.

In the younger females, unhealthy weight control behaviors remained constant from early adolescence to early young adulthood.

Among older females, these behaviors decreased significantly from middle adolescence to middle young adulthood, but still remained very high (60.7 percent compared to 54.4 percent).

Approximately one-third of males reported unhealthy weight control behaviors, which stayed fairly constant over the study period in both age groups.

For extreme behaviors, there was a significant increase from adolescence to young adulthood in females for both age groups and for the older male group. Among females, the use of extreme weight control behaviors increased from 8.4 to 20.4 percent between early adolescence and early young adulthood and from 12.6 to 20.6 percent between middle adolescence and middle young adulthood.

For the older males, extreme weight control behaviors increased from 2.1 percent in middle adolescence to 7.3 percent in middle young adulthood.

The results reveal that these potentially harmful eating control behaviors are not just a phase that adolescents experience, but instead may indicate that early dieting and disordered eating behaviors may set the stage for continued use of these methods in later life.

“Within clinical practices, dietitians and other health care providers should be asking about the use of these behaviors prior to adolescence, throughout adolescence, and into young adulthood,” noted the researchers.

“Given the growing concern about obesity, it is important to let young people know that dieting and disordered eating behaviors can be counterproductive to weight management. Young people concerned about their weight should be provided with support for healthful eating and physical activity behaviors that can be implemented on a long-term basis, and should be steered away from the use of unhealthy weight control practices.”

The study is published in the July 2011 issue of the Journal of the American Dietetic Association.

Trained cancer killer

Medicine harnesses the might of the immune system defeat prostate cancer
Doctors have been trying to enlist the immune system of patients in the battle against cancer since at least 1893, when physician William Coley of New York Cancer Hospital injected bacteria into a patient’s body in the hopes that it would spur the immune system to fight the bacterial infection and cancer cells alike. The tumor disappeared, and the patient lived for another 26 years. But immunotherapy was eclipsed by radiation and chemotherapy, which showed more-immediate and reproducible results.
Last April, Provenge became the first FDA-approved treatment that retrains the immune system to target cancer. Scientists have tested it only on subjects already near death, in this case men whose tumors had spread beyond their prostate. Those who took Provenge lived an average of 4.1 months longer than those who didn’t. Now researchers at Dendreon, which manufactures Provenge, are looking into whether it can stop the cancer from spreading beyond the prostate. If that can be done, says Paul Schellhammer, a urologist at Eastern Virginia Medical School who studied Provenge in clinical trials, the patient will usually survive.

Joining a Gym

before you start any strenuous exercise make sure with your doctor that this is OK for you. You don’t want to hurt yourself or make yourself sick. For some people a brisk walk every day is enough.

If you have a certain exercise you love then by all means indulge this. If you love to dance, find a gym that offers dance classes! If you love to swim, make sure you join a gym with a pool. Exercise if by no means all about lifting weights. If you are looking for a gym with a pool be prepared to pay a bit more for a membership than a gym with out.

You also want to make sure you feel safe at this gym. It should give you an atmosphere where you don’t feel embarrassed or like you are gonna catch something funky from the locker rooms.

Finally you want to look at cost. Some places are very expensive while others are fairly cheap. The price can and will dictate the clients and what will be available for you to use. Some gyms offer discounts to certain groups of people, students with IDs, certain corporates, disabilities, etc. Always check to see if you can get a discount. This can knock a good 100$ off your year in some cases.

When you go to join a gym keep all these things in mind and don’t be afraid to shop around. A lot of gyms will give you a free trial day to see if you like it or not. Good luck everyone!

Fun Fitness Fact of the Day: Your body is built in the kitchen! Always remember that and make healthy choices. Here is a great article on the subject: http://natemiyaki.com/2011/03/24/the-8020-rule-of-fitness-nutrition/

I read this amazing article about the impact of nutritional habits on our body… a great Read.

here goes:

The 80/20 Rule of Fitness Nutrition

Posted on  by natemiyaki

If you retain only one piece of information from my articles, I hope that it is this: your nutritional habits will have a far greater impact on your body composition and physique goals than any other fitness component.

Step back from the fitness industry, pop culture, or scientific debates and think about it logically for just a second. Lets say you perform 4 weight training sessions and 5 cardio sessions a week – a typical fitness protocol. That’s a total of 9 training sessions per week. That’s 9 chances to make a difference and change your body in a positive way.

Now, lets also say you eat 3 square meals a day. Better yet, as a fitness athlete you know about the advantages of meal spacing and eat 5 meals/snacks a day. That’s 21-35 opportunities a week to directly impact your muscle building and fat burning goals.

A common question in the fitness industry is, “what percentage of my physique enhancement goals will be a result of exercise, and what percentage will be a result of my diet?” Common answers are something like, “Well, they are both important. You can’t really assign percentages” or “training is 100%, diet is 100%”. But that doesn’t really give novice trainees an accurate depiction of the bigger picture. And in the big picture, diet will always have a bigger impact than training.

In our above example of 9 training sessions and 35 meals/snacks geared toward body composition improvement a week, that works out to about 20% accounted to physical activity and 80% accounted to diet. I’d say that’s a pretty accurate assessment of the physique enhancement process. If you want to look good, 80% of your results are determined by the food that you eat.

This is an article about fitness nutrition, not statistics, so lets leave the numbers behind and look at some real world examples. If you look around your gym, you’ve probably noticed some regulars that have been there day-in and day-out for months, or even years, but look exactly the same. All that time and effort with no results to show for it. What’s up with that? The answer is diet, or lack thereof.

Another good example is professional NFL offensive lineman. These guys are pro athletes that perform vigorous training protocols on a daily basis. They are big, strong, and could certainly throw me a severe beating. But most of them have a little jiggle with their wiggle, a large percentage of them are obese. How can this be? Again, the answer is poor, or no nutritional strategy.

Conversely, when you hear tales of dramatic weight loss or great body transformations, diet/nutrition is always at the forefront of the discussion. “How did you lose the weight?” friends will ask. “Oh, I went on such and such diet” or “I read this or that nutrition book.” People can make drastic changes in their physique with diet alone. Remember Jared from Subway (yeah I know he’s getting paid to say that, but you get my point).

The moral of the story is you can’t change your body just by exercising. As a matter of fact, I’d say you are wasting your time in the gym until you clean up your diet and implement a sound fitness nutrition protocol. It would be nice if we could work off last night’s junk meal with some extra cardio. Despite what some trainers would have you believe, it just doesn’t work that way.

When you are about to cheat and eat that slice of pizza or bowl of ice cream, remember the Fitness Nutrition 80:20 rule. What goes into your mouth accounts for 80% of how you look.

Young girls always got the wrong messages from the fashion industry. It’s true that clothes on runway would look million times better if the models are skinny, but guess what, skinny is NOT fabulous

I personally blame Twiggy and Kate Moss for making this so-called skinny bone jones trend worldwide.

I never been a size 0. I have curves here and there, and I’m a proud size 4 model. It is true though that being a bigger size models make you work harder in the industry. But hey, I’m still hired! A lot of healthy-sized models are still hired. Bar Refaeli, Doutzen Kroes, Gisele Bundchen, Cindy Crawford, Lara Stone, Daria Werbowy. None of them are size 0. I’m sure you all know that Cindy is one of THE original supermodels.

A friend of mine, Angeline, was kind enough to write an article about anorexia in this post. So without further ado, here’s Angeline, guest blogging for Fabulous & Fearless:

—————————————————————————————————————-

Nowadays, a lot of people especially for women and girls are fighting to be skinny. They did many different ways to have “the perfect body” without thinking about what gonna be happens to their body.  Eating disorders maybe one of many ways to be skinny, such as Anorexia and Bulimia. For now, I’ll tell you a little about Anorexia.

Anorexia nervosa is a psychiatric disorder and physiologic syndrome that affects 1 % to 3 % of women in the United States. Persons with anorexia nervosa frequently deny they have any eating problem. Anorexia Nervosa usually emerges during adolescence and in females who have a history of childhood abuse. Characterized by the following:

-          A fear of becoming obese despite progressive weight loss

-          A distorted body image: the perception that the body is fat when it is actually underweight

-          Body weight 15 % less than normal for age and height because of refusal to eat

-          In women and girls, absence of three consecutive menstrual periods

There is two types of eating behavior in anorexia nervosa and both involve subnormal body weight and ongoing malnutrition.

-          Restrictive Anorexia Nervosa entails unremitting food avoidance

-          Binge eating/ purging Anorexia Nervosa includes binge eating followed by self-induced vomiting or laxative abuse

As the disease progresses, muscle and fat depletion gibe the individual skeleton-like appearance. Iron deficiency anemia promotes fatigue, and low white blood cell count increases risk of infection. Reproductive functioning is affected, including ovarian function, menstruation, fertility, and pregnancy. The loss of 25 % to 30 % of ideal body weight can eventually lead to death caused by starvation-induced cardiac failure.

Of course fashion industry has big influence for eating disorders! Like what you’ve said before, Natalie, that what reality shows showing on TV about THE GLAMOROUS LIFE OF MODELS! That lifestyle is interesting, making every girls want to be the model. And model identical with beauty and skinny body. So they thought to be beautiful they must have the skinny body, and they’re fighting to have that skinny body.

In some episodes of America’s Next Top Model also showed there’s not enough clothes for the plus-sized models. I thought it’s such a bad thing to be shown on TV, and most viewers of reality shows are teenagers, that affects them on their growth. It built their mindset about health in general.

At the end, always remember that beauty is not about the skinny body, beauty is about the healthy body!

Be Healthy!!

Love,

Angeline

Nema has re-launched its highly successful nutrition project in the villages of Guludo, Ningaia, Crimize and Mipande. Malnutrition is a serious issue in Northern Mozambique, where 56% of children are chronically malnourished. Nema’s nutrition project comprises community workshops that teach families about malnutrition, why it occurs and how to prevent and treat it. In addition to this theory-based session, the workshops also provide families with a practical session that teaches them how to make a traditional and nutritious papa, or porridge, made from local ingredients, knowledge of which was lost during the Civil War. Over the year, we aim to roll the project out to all 12 villages where we work, enabling us to reach a total of over 16,000 people.

Why does it always come to this?! Like no money no money no money. Even a mere $150 a month for my allowance is a problem. What the…..What kind of family is this? Did I kill 9346389247230 people in my previous life to suffer like this? Other than money being an issue, my mother’s health is also an issue and is causing a lot of distress to me. It’s like a time bomb. Why must this happen to her?! Then my father has to go and have an affair. Like what the fuck. The house already so much problem and you still like that? I’m convinced it’s the sweating; you watch the Insanity stuff and you see all these people behind Shaun effing T just drenched and you suddenly become more envious of that than their rock hard bodies. Sweat suddenly becomes your meter for gauging how well you’re working out. If I don’t sweat enough, I honestly feel like I didn’t do my best, which motivates me to move harder the next day.

Anyway, since I couldn’t work out at all, I’ve been having a ‘blah’ kind of day. I know I could go for a run or something, but my neighborhood’s filled with other runners, plus what I like to call “Active Yard Cleaner Uppers.” These are people who constantly work on their front lawns to make sure it meets specifications only they care about. It’s not just about the yard, though. Oh no. It’s also about watching other neighbors on the sly, from the corner of their eye.

I just rhymed.

So, yeah. I feel awkward running in my neighborhood. I’m planning on doing some yoga later to make up for it.

It has come to my attention that what seems to be “common knowledge” isn’t so common after all. Especially when it comes to health and nutrition. With all the media garble telling us what to do, what to eat, and what to purchase, it’s hard to desipher the which eating habits are good or bad. Should I not eat carbs? Should I exercise every single day? Will this Bun Burner 300 really make my ass look good in only a month? Most of it is the media trying to convince you, the consumer, to do this and that so they can make money. That’s the hard truth. Sure, that granola bar sure looks tasty and nutritious, and the box even says “Low Fat”! But take a look at the nutrition label, and the facts are all there. Most everything is shoved with hidden gobs of sugar, chemicals, and all sorts terribly horrid things for your body. But didn’t that label say “Low Fat”? Doesnt that mean it’s good for me? You be the judge.

I didn’t always see things this way. I use to be “normal”. I use to never look at a food label except to look at the calories. I use to think I was eating healthy for many years, when really, I wasn’t looking at the big picture. After all this so-thought eating healthy, yet still feeling like it wasn’t working, I asked myself “what is it I’m doing wrong”. And after many tiny discoveries over the months, it hit me- I didn’t know what exactly I was putting into my mouth, and ultimately, my body. After researching, reading, and marching through grocery stores staring at food labels, I felt empowered knowing what I was eating, and what exactly my body needs to carry me on.

That is why I am here, now, to set the facts straight. After all I’ve learned, I feel everybody should know what they need to find happiness within themselves. Everybody deserves to be happy with themselves; every day, morning, noon, and night. Your body is your shell, your home, the one thing that will stick with you- but you have to love it and take care of it for it to do the same.

My problems with my shoes are gone - I just had to figure out how to wear them (if that makes any sense).

Also, AG, that’s awesome! I’ve noticed most of my cravings are gone as well. Especially from not having soda for awhile.

BIG UPDATE: I went to a Charity event yesterday at Wing Chun place near me. Wing Chun is that kung fu I was telling you that my friend just got into. I signed up, completely forgetting that I was starting a new job this week. BUT! It does seem to be a great workout and it’s useful because it’s all self-defense techniques and real-life situations and stuff like that. Plus the instructors are really cute. I couldn’t pass up the chance.

So, I’m starting work today and I’m going to see my schedule and I’m going to try and balance Wing Chun and the job. I probably will have to call the cute instructors and tell them I can’t make it three times a week.

We’ll see. I’ll keep you updated!

Oh! And I started running the lake. I’m not to a 3 minute run, but so far I think I’m doing pretty well and I feel a lot more worked out when I finish.

It’s raining a lot here, so my real problem is trying to stay dry. hahaha

BH

So, I’ve been a vegan for about a month now and a vegetarian for almost a year (3 months shy). Although, I feel like I cheated because I was a pescatarian in the beginning…I’m not going to be too hard on myself because I am what I am now and the past is the past.

The best part about being vegan is that not only do I feel good, I look good. I have lost 10 lbs and it’s so much easier to pass everything through. I know that’s a bit personal but, hey, it’s natural!

So, I just wanted to update you guys on what’s going on because I haven’t been on for awhile.

Now, I’m gonna enjoy my vacation :) My sister, best friend, and I are in Maine with my family and it’s the most beautiful place in the world.

  • i slept in rather than practice yoga this morning, but that’s okay because i did 4 days this week and that was my goal!
  • 3.5 miles this afternoon, then maybe a teeny bit of ab/upper body work if i’m feeling up to it.
  • the high is near 100 so i’ll probably get outside early and read/swim/lament buying my new bathing suit bottoms in the wrong size then losing the receipt
  • i just found out that my mom is making nothing that i can eat for dinner so i have to figure out what the hell to make for myself

i also really want to watch love and other drugs. but i’ve heard that it’s not appropriate to watch with parents…but i don’t want to offend them by hoarding it alone in my room. then again, my parents watched misfits with me and just looked past the sexy parts and “it’s that british show about superhero teenagers” to them.

5 Muscle Myths

Turn on the music and press the treadmill, because starting Monday, I am officially loosing weight. I am going to build tummy muscles and be thin by the time I go to Burning Man this August.  Go beauty **twirls finger in air while rolling eyes**

Brain cancer diagnosis and treatment. http://dld.bz/qGFa health

Ran a 10k this morning with my bud, Maza at the Standard Chartered KL Marathon 2011 at Dataran Merdeka. This is my second time participating in this event, and I have to say it is so much better the second time around. Cause lets face it, last year’s organization was bullshit. Seriously, only two water stations for the entire stretch of 10km. Are you freaking kidding me?

This year however, they man-up, and all the runners were able to rehydrate with H2O and 100 plus at least every 2.5 km. Which explains why I performed so much better this time around. Well, I best my time last year by 10 minutes. I know, big deal, 10 minutes, whatevs right?

It is kinda a big deal considering that it was the hardest thing I ever had to finish in my entire life, ever. The last km was the worst. Like, am I ever gonna get there???

But I did. And I felt thriumphant. Heh.

Just lemme bask in this a coupla days more.

Switch your birth control.

Oral contraceptives contain estrogen, which causes your adrenal glands to produce fluid-retaining hormones, explains Mary Jane Minkin, MD, clinical professor of obstetrics, gynecology, and reproductive sciences at the Yale School of Medicine. The experience is highly individual: Some women don’t notice an increase in bloating, while others feel themselves puffing up within days of starting a new pill. If you fall in the second camp, talk to your ob-gyn about trying another brand. Both Yasmin and Yaz contain the hormone drospirenone, which may ease bloat, since it’s also a diuretic. Of the 70 percent of women in a recent study in the journal Contraception who reported abdominal bloating while taking birth control pills, about half said their symptoms were gone after six months of switching to Yasmin. One caveat: Because drospirenone can increase levels of potassium in the body, women who frequently take other medications that increase potassium (such as NSAIDs and ACE inhibitors) aren’t good candidates for this type of oral contraceptive.

Go easy on diet drinks.

Many sugar-free beverages, candies, and gum contain the sweetener sorbitol. Though it’s a great calorie cutter, sorbitol isn’t digestible, so it sends stomach enzymes into overdrive, Gidus says. When patients with abdominal bloating were put on sorbitol-free and sugar-free diets, nearly half saw their symptoms disappear, one study found. Although the FDA requires companies to put a warning label on products that “may result in a daily consumption of 50 grams of sorbitol,” experts note that as little as 10 grams can trigger stomach trouble. Sorbitol can add up quickly: One piece of sugar-free gum has about 1.25 grams, for instance.

Trim the fat.

You ate fried onion rings on Friday night, but now it’s Saturday afternoon and you swear they’re still hanging out in your belly. It’s possible: High-fat foods delay the emptying of the stomach, which may lead to bloating and an overall feeling of fullness. A study in Australia found a direct correlation between bloating and the amount of fat in women’s diets. “I’ve seen many women who assumed they were lactose intolerant because they felt bloated after eating a bowl of ice cream; it turned out it wasn’t the milk but the fat that was the culprit,” Kirkpatrick says. Don’t eliminate fat: “Foods rich in heart-healthy fats, such as avocados, olive oil, and nuts, are actually low-gas producing,” Dr. Gerbstadt says. “The key is to focus on these good fats and pair them with lean protein, such as chicken or fish, which aids in their digestion.”’

Eat broccoli every day.

It sounds counterintuitive, but regularly eating foods that are likely to cause gas, like beans, broccoli, brussels sprouts, cabbage, and onions, helps your body adjust and learn to break them down efficiently. “I’ve seen women run into problems when they eat these foods infrequently, say once a week,” Kirkpatrick says. “Their digestive tract isn’t used to them, so they produce a ton of extra gas and bloating.”

Slow down.

“A lot of my clients are busy working moms who are eating food either in their car orwalking to the office,” says Jeannie Gazzaniga-Moloo, PhD, RD, spokesperson for the American Dietetic Association. “The problem with eating on the go is that you take big bites of food and don’t chew properly, so you end up swallowing a tremendous amount of air.” Her advice: Take 15 to 20 minutes to eat each meal — yes, even if you’re munching on the run. “Take a deep breath after each bite and chew with your mouth closed. This forces you to breathe through your nose, which relaxes and slows you down.” While you’re at it, if you’re sipping on the go, opt for a cup, not a straw: The latter promotes ingestion of gas.

Choose supplements carefully.

If you take a calcium supplement, know which compound is in it. One that contains calcium carbonate, like Tums or Os-Cal, is more likely to cause gas and bloating because it’s harder for your stomach to break down than one with calcium citrate, such as Citracal, according to the National Institutes of Health. Either way, taking a supplement with an acidic drink, such as orange or grapefruit juice, will help you absorb calcium. Many women also experience bloating if they use an omega-3 supplement, Gazzaniga-Moloo says. “Put it in the refrigerator and have it cold; this seems to help reduce the burping and bloating that often come with taking such a supplement,” she says.

Cut back on the sweet stuff.

Fructose, the simple sugar found in syrup, honey, and soft drinks, may be the source of some of your tummy troubles: Three out of four people with unexplained GI symptoms, such as bloating, had fructose intolerance, according to a University of Iowa study. Like lactose intolerance, this condition can be diagnosed with a simple breath test. The good news: Being fructose intolerant doesn’t mean you have to swear off this healthy, sweet diet staple. “Most people are fine with actual fruit, especially if they spread their servings throughout the day, but you may need to steer clear of processed foods or soft drinks made with high-fructose corn syrup, like sweetened drinks or soft drinks,” Dr. Saito says. Juice may also trigger a reaction, since it’s more concentrated.

Get checked for allergies.

If your bloating is accompanied by nasal congestion, allergies may be the surprising reason. “When your nose is stuffed up, you end up primarily breathing through your mouth, which means you swallow a lot of air, which could cause bloating,” Dr. Saito says.

Be takeout savvy.

“Steamed veggie plates seem like a smart option if you’re ordering Chinese food, but if you’re prone to bloating, you should realize that many of the vegetables, like bok choy, can produce tons of gas,” says Jackie Keller, a celebrity nutritionist in Los Angeles.

Skip the salt.

You’ve heard it before, and we’ll say it again: Salt causes your body to retain fluid. That’s good news if you’re training for a marathon. Bad news if you’re trying to squeeze into a new dress for your friend’s wedding. The biggest culprit? “Sauces and salad dressings,” Keller says, “especially at restaurants.” To play it safe, order dressings and sauces on the side, or season lightly with olive oil and vinegar.

There are plenty of muscle myths out there. Here are five of the most common ones, and the truth behind the fiction:

1. Muscle will turn to fat if you stop exercising.

This muscle myth has been around for a long time. The truth is that muscle and fat are two different types of tissue, so one can’t convert to the other.

The reason why this myth persists is because many of us have seen muscular people who, once they stop exercising, become fat. But the reason why they become fat isn’t because their muscle has turned into fat, it’s because they have stopped working out but have continued to consume the same number of calories as when they were working out. So they end up losing lean muscle mass because they are no longer exercising, and they end up gaining body fat because they are consuming more calories than their new sedentary bodies need.

2. Muscle weighs more than fat.

This is another muscle myth that’s been around for a long time. The truth is that muscle does not weigh more than fat – one pound of muscle and one pound of fat both weigh one pound.

But muscle is more dense than fat, which means that one pound of muscle takes up less space than one pound of fat. This is the reason why you can have two people who are both the same height and weight, but the one with more muscle and less body fat will look leaner than the one with more body fat and less muscle.

3. Muscle loss is inevitable as you get older.

Muscle loss is not the normal result of aging, it’s primarily the result of a sedentary lifestyle. If you don’t use your muscles they waste away. Once the average sedentary person reaches age 65, they will have lost up to 40% of their lean muscle mass compared to when they were young adults.

Multiple studies have shown that older people respond very well to weight lifting and are able to build lean muscle mass very effectively. Even people in nursing homes have been able to increase lean muscle mass when put on an appropriate weight lifting program.

4. Women will develop big, bulky muscles if they lift weights.

The reality is that most women don’t have enough of the hormone testosterone (a key hormone for building muscle) to develop big, bulky muscles. Without using steroids to unnaturally alter their testosterone levels, it’s not possible for most women to develop big, bulky muscles.

It’s important for women to realize that lifting weights will not give them a big, bulky body, but instead it will give them a strong, firm, toned body.

5. Muscle has no effect on fat loss.

Actually, building more lean muscle mass is one of the keys to fat loss. This is because muscle is metabolically active tissue, which means that the more lean muscle mass you have the higher your metabolism will be. The higher your metabolism, the more calories your body burns to maintain itself. The more calories your body burns to maintain itself, the more body fat you lose.

In conclusion, now that these common muscle myths have been dispelled, make sure that weight lifting – the best way to build and maintain lean muscle mass – is a part of your fitness program.

So much excitement!

So for those who haven’t read my “about” page (see left side bar) I was diagnosed with Chronic Urticaria earlier this year.  It’s really just a fancy name for chronic hives, but in cases like mine, my body attacks a certain type of cell which results in hives.  I was put on prednisone—a steroid with yucky side effects—for 3 weeks and they went away.  I hadn’t been working out because the hives were so bad and sweating made them worse. THEN the prednisone gave me awful side effects. *Insert weight gain* I was weaned off the steroids and put on prescription antihistamines.  Well, they were gone for almost a month and last week..ta-da. Slowly they started to get worse, doctor up’ed my antihistamines but finally they were constant for 3 days and she gave me 5 day dosage of prednisone.  We’re checking my “Chronic Urticaria Index” and if it’s high enough they’ll put me on immunosuppressant drugs.  I’ve been doing a lot of walking of hills (on a treadmill of course, we have no hills in Florida lol) but today I just went for a run, even though it’s brutal as all hell out.  It wasn’t bad considering I haven’t been consistent.

I’ve been doing a lot of strength training at home with my balance ball and I have 5lb weights.  Ugh, six weeks until I move and I’m just not happy.

Things like this kind of irk me. Like, okay loving your body is essential if you want to get healthy and such but it’s like…I don’t know if I’m going to explain this right but when people cross out something that’s supposed to be taken as an inspirational message and put something else under it’s just. I mean you’re making it sound wrong that somebody wants to be skinny. Because when you think of skinny you think of anorexic or unhealthy but when I think of skinny I think of healthy, strong..I think of being able to wear all those outfits that wouldn’t fit right otherwise. I think of not having to worry about how my ass looks in my jeans. I mean, wanting to be skinny shouldn’t make you a bad person and when people continually make people feel bad for wanting to be skinny it’s just wrong. Because “skinny” in one person’s eyes can mean something completely different to another..but I don’t think you should ever discourage someone that way…Just cause you never know what the intention was behind that….

Myocardial infarction treatment. Heartattack. http://bit.ly/cT3h8w health

Today, I was inspired to cook. After tuning in to the Food Network, how could I not? I channeled my inner Paula Deen, Ina Garten, and Rachel Ray and hit the grocery store. I picked up the essentials plenty of blueberries, strawberries, bananas, apples, peppers, onion, spinach leaves, applesauce, yogurt, cottage cheese, eggs. orange juice, oatmeal, peanut butter, bread, craisins and raisins.
With my grocery treasures I made a pasta salad consisting of broccoli, red peppers, tomato, salami, cheddar cheese, rigatoni and Italian dressing.?Luckily, I had a buddy in my cooking expedition- A fellow Warren lane girl, Michelle. Our first project was to make Barefoot Contessa’s Brownie Pudding?. We combined eggs and sugar and whisked them for about 3 minutes. The whisk add some air to the batter making it light and fluffy versus the hand mixer.Flour and cocoa powder were sifted together and then added to the eggs and sugar. Finally, the butter and vanilla were added.?Good sifting skills Michelle! We put them in a pie and muffin tins, followed by a drizzle of caramel syrup on each. Bake at 325 degrees. Twenty minutes for the muffins and 50 for the pie tin.The Brownie Pudding came out beautifully- so decadent! It was literally a consistency between a brownie and pudding. A super moist brownie if you will and when you thought it couldn’t get any better our addition of caramel did. The caramel created a crisp top and some soaked through the batter to the middle of the brownie. Mmmmm!?The next treat was Peanut butter granola- a recipe from Peanut Butter Finger’s blog. She came up with a great recipe- I can’t take credit for it’s deliciousness! The only addition I made was to bake in some craisins for an extra punch! I can’t wait to put this on top of yogurt and oatmeal!?Next, I took Julie’s recipe and doubled it. The goal was Peanut butter and Jelly granola bars. I added one egg white, 1/4 c of brown sugar and 4 tbsp of (melted) butter to Julie’s recipe. I put half the batter on a cookie sheet, spread a thin layer of grape jelly over it and then put the final half of the batter on top.I baked it on 350 for 25 minutes, which as it turns out was too long. I would suggest 20 for next time! Be sure to let them cool. I found the longer they sat the more I like them. Michelle and I approved of these bars. They had a crunchy top and soft center. We loved that we could taste each ingredient; the peanut butter, the cinnamon, the vanilla. However, we felt that if maybe raisins or walnuts were added it might give these bars a little something extra in terms of texture and a taste that stands out. We were also pretty cautious with the jelly, so maybe just adding a bit of a thicker layer would be enough. We’re finishing the night off with a movie while enjoying the fruits- or should I say oats of our labor.Until tomorrow, Toodles! ?

Top 50 Summer Diet Foods for Weight Loss:

Diet Food: Mulberries

These sweet, juicy summer berries are tasty both fresh and dried in trail mix or in a salad, says Lisa Dorfman, a registered dietitian and author of The Reunion Diet. “At just 43 calories per 3.5 oz serving, they contain 61 percent of the RDA for vitamin C, and they’re also chock full of potassium, fiber, and resveratrol, a phytonutrient shown to protect the heart.

Diet Food: Pineapple

“This sweet tropical fruit is the perfect ingredient for summer smoothies and juices,” says Beth Aldrich, a certified holistic health and nutrition counselor, and author of the book Real Moms Love to Eat. “It contains the proteolytic enzyme bromelain, which aids in the digestion of protein and blood clot formation. As an anti-inflammatory super food, pineapple can help reduce swelling and in turn, you’ll have a flatter belly.

Lifehacker | Pirates really do sleep better:

Turns out hammocks are better for sleeping. Who’d have guessed that.

So today was the last day of our yard sale. I made like $35.00. My mom made more than I did. But remember..this was all just junk & clutter. The amount I made was perfect because what I wanted to buy my mom for her upcoming birthday was on sale for $30.00! Super excited & can’t wait for her surprise party. What was left from the yard sale, we took to Goodwill…besides a few things that we’re giving a couple people & a few things we’re putting in my sister-in-law’s yard sale.

I ate okay today. But I still felt bad for not eating perfectly. I did make it to the gym though! It felt amazing. I warmed up for 10 minutes on the bike, did some stuff with weights, & then ran a mile! I ran a mile…without stopping..in 13 minutes. That’s like a freaking miracle for me! I was breathing way too hard, but I couldn’t help it. It felt great! Proud moment. (:

Now I just got out of the shower, lying in bed, about to read.

Before I end this post, I want to show you a picture. This was another proud moment. Not last Summer, but the Summer before I bought a sundress..when I bought it, it fit. The next Summer it was too tight. I decided since I’ve lost 35 pounds since last Summer, that I should try it on. So I waited a day or two & then the other day I finally tried it on…. & IT FIT! I’m sure I have a picture of me wearing it when it was slightly too tight, so I’ll try to find that but here is the one of me from the other day..

(Don’t mind the wrinkles in the dress. It was put up in a box for a year.)

Sweet dreams!
