My problems with my shoes are gone - I just had to figure out how to wear them (if that makes any sense).

Also, AG, that’s awesome! I’ve noticed most of my cravings are gone as well. Especially from not having soda for awhile.

BIG UPDATE: I went to a Charity event yesterday at Wing Chun place near me. Wing Chun is that kung fu I was telling you that my friend just got into. I signed up, completely forgetting that I was starting a new job this week. BUT! It does seem to be a great workout and it’s useful because it’s all self-defense techniques and real-life situations and stuff like that. Plus the instructors are really cute. I couldn’t pass up the chance.

So, I’m starting work today and I’m going to see my schedule and I’m going to try and balance Wing Chun and the job. I probably will have to call the cute instructors and tell them I can’t make it three times a week.

We’ll see. I’ll keep you updated!

Oh! And I started running the lake. I’m not to a 3 minute run, but so far I think I’m doing pretty well and I feel a lot more worked out when I finish.

It’s raining a lot here, so my real problem is trying to stay dry. hahaha

So, I’ve been a vegan for about a month now and a vegetarian for almost a year (3 months shy). Although, I feel like I cheated because I was a pescatarian in the beginning…I’m not going to be too hard on myself because I am what I am now and the past is the past.

The best part about being vegan is that not only do I feel good, I look good. I have lost 10 lbs and it’s so much easier to pass everything through. I know that’s a bit personal but, hey, it’s natural!

So, I just wanted to update you guys on what’s going on because I haven’t been on for awhile.

Now, I’m gonna enjoy my vacation :) My sister, best friend, and I are in Maine with my family and it’s the most beautiful place in the world.

  • i slept in rather than practice yoga this morning, but that’s okay because i did 4 days this week and that was my goal!
  • 3.5 miles this afternoon, then maybe a teeny bit of ab/upper body work if i’m feeling up to it.
  • the high is near 100 so i’ll probably get outside early and read/swim/lament buying my new bathing suit bottoms in the wrong size then losing the receipt
  • i just found out that my mom is making nothing that i can eat for dinner so i have to figure out what the hell to make for myself

i also really want to watch love and other drugs. but i’ve heard that it’s not appropriate to watch with parents…but i don’t want to offend them by hoarding it alone in my room. then again, my parents watched misfits with me and just looked past the sexy parts and “it’s that british show about superhero teenagers” to them.

this post is brought to you by 10 hours of sleep and coffee with vanilla almond milk.

US deaths caused from poverty same amount as heart attacks and strokes:

How researchers classify and quantify causes of death across a population has evolved in recent decades. In addition to long-recognized physiological causes such as heart attack and cancer, the role of behavioral factors — including smoking, dietary patterns and inactivity — began to be quantified in the 1990s. More recent research has begun to look at the contribution of social factors to U.S. mortality. In the first comprehensive analysis of such studies, researchers at Columbia University’s Mailman School of Public Health found that poverty, low levels of education, poor social support and other social factors contribute about as many deaths in the U.S. as such familiar causes as heart attacks, strokes and lung cancer.”

The investigators found that approximately 245,000 deaths in the United States in the year 2000 were attributable to low levels of education, 176,000 to racial segregation, 162,000 to low social support, 133,000 to individual-level poverty, 119,000 to income inequality, and 39,000 to area-level poverty.”

Metabolism boosters

Well, I’ve just concluded that it’s time to go jeans shopping again. Counting calories for the past 6 months or so, plus throwing Insanity into the mix, means my jeans are all a couple inches too big, and I refuse to wear a belt and have belt bulge in all my favorite shirts. Belts bother me in general, anyway. I always have this fear of having to pee really bad, then not being able to get the belt undone in time.

Just me?

Eh, moving on.

I’ve decided that when I’m genuinely satisfied with myself, and I’m at 125 pounds (give or take a couple pounds), I might want a belly button ring. Yeah, they look kinda trashy, but I think it’s a modern symbol for a youthful sort of confidence. Even if you’re not that thin, if you’ve got a belly ring, I usually think, “Whoa, that girl let a complete stranger fondle her abdomen whilst piercing it with a whorish piece of metal. That’s confidence, right there.”

I want a whorish piece of metal someday. I want people looking at my belly button area, mesmerized by a gleaming, fake diamond stud embedded into my flesh as I prance about a crowded beach in an itsy bitsy teeny weeny yellow polka dot bikini.

Some people dream of being a doctor. I dream of decorating my stomach with luxurious stripper jewelry. And I don’t give a fuck what anyone thinks.

current weight: 138 (slowly coming down….ever so slowly…)

Marathon Nutrition Before During and after Race:

If anyone has any (cheap-ish!) suggestions for good workout DVDs I would really appreciate it. I can’t drive and the nearest gym is too far away to walk/bike to.

It’s either this or I stop eating, and I really do not want to do that again.

Any suggestions?

Also works as a sweet 10 min break during study sessions. Allllwwwaaaays feel better afterwards. Have also found listening to this lady quiet relaxing….

“When you are inspired by some great purpose, some extraordinary project, all your thoughts break their bonds: Your mind transcends limitations, your consciousness expands in every direction, and you find yourself in a new, great and wonderful world. Dormant forces, faculties and talents become alive, and you discover yourself to be a greater person by far than you ever dreamed yourself to be.”

How or Where Do You Practice Yoga?

Confession: I’ve never taken a true-live-in-person-pay-for-it-yoga course. I learned the basics in high school when it was my gym period and went on from there to home practice years later. Especially now, I look at my budget and ask important questions such as “Would I like to eat today, put gas in the car or take a yoga class?” You can see why the latter option has never been taken. In our area, the best you can do of the some 20 yoga studios in the area is $12 a class or some three-digit-number for a monthly pass.

For those who can afford it, I get the appeal of going to a physical yoga course. There are people, someone to help you through and keep you motivated, someone to push you and much more. But for me, I can’t get past the cost hurdle. I recently read “Poser” by Claire Dederer and she mentioned how when she tried home practice, the same sequence of poses from class were boring. I’ll never see how for my life. I love the freedom home practice brings. I can do whatever poses I want, in whatever order (kind of…), focusing on whatever areas I’d like. If today feels like a “balance pose” day, it can be. Likewise, if my sciatica is killing me today, I can focus on poses to help it. I’ve also found the YogAmazing podcasts to be phenomenal and a great help when I don’t want to think.

How do you practice yoga? What leads you to that path of practice?

Yoga time! I’ve been getting into yogilates, which is yoga and pilates mixed, if you didn’t figure that one out. It’s really a good medium of the peaceful yoga-ness, and the pilates work-out-ness.

Okay yall! I’m so excited! I re-began my ‘healthy for life’ movement. I know I’ve been loafing ALL school year long about getting in shape, but something about summer coming up and college in the fall has really pushed me to get back on track.

I’m getting my vegetarian life style back in order, I was definitely way more strict about it when I first started 4-5 years ago. I’m also really watching my calorie intake and serving sizes and food portions. I’m also trying to get myself in the habit of doing a few exercises when I wake up and before I go to sleep, plus I want to be more serious with my yoga - to gain flexibility and have a healthy mind as well as body. (I got overweight this school year because I didn’t actively play sports and stressing lead me to eat unhealthily, as well *sadface*)

I’ve struggled with how I was going to go about losing my unwanted weight and it has been a battle as I debated on doing it the unhealthy way or not. I’ve been using other tumblr blogs as my motivation, suprisingly not all thinspirations are proana or promia or even ED related. I really didn’t want to fall back down that path.

Right now I’m privately keeping track of my CW, GWs, and UGW but I think posting a before picture up here will be a great motivator for me so that I can do a before and after. Man, yall don’t even know how excited I am! I’ve been studying nutrition and calories online for a few days and I’m excited to use it to my creativity. Especially during this month of June. I won’t be doing too much physical activity because my hair cannot handle it lol, but I really am watching what I eat. I also struggle with putting myself down when I relapse and binge and I’m also pretty lazy so I purge unintentionally. My biggest struggle: water intake! I love water but I’m not drinking nearly as much as I’m suppose to.

Okay, so last, my support team during this process is my friend Britt, she really understands the pressure of being fit, since she is a dancer, and I myself am an athlete. So she will be my rock. I wanna get other people hip like my best friend, since she’ll be abroad throughout the month of June and me and her have never discussed my insecurity, and my sister since she knows a lot about foods and seems to be tryna get in shape as well. My overweightness (not even a word lol) doesn’t show to the general public. I personally know I’m 30ish lbs over and I intend to lose 40ish lbs by August. So if any of yall are in the same situation please hit me up and we can support each other. Or if you just have any tips on health, yoga, working out, or nutrition please let me know. Thanks :)

Julia Roberts Loving Hinduism

Julia Roberts was always in love with India and Hinduism. Her interest in Hinduism, however, increased after she watched  a movie of Hanuman devotee Neem Karoli Baba at a temple she once visited with her family. Now, a convert to Hunduism, she loved celebrating Diwali and called it similar to Christmas as it is also about lighting and good spirits.

She is fond of bindis and yoga. She even named her production house "Red Om Films". Looks like somebody is finding peace and enjoyment in the religion they practice.
