Lunch: baked chicken, salad leaves, chorizo, onion and nandos sauce. Yum, nandos sauce is so good on salad if you like spicy food :)

I’m inclined to disagree with you knowing how to abandon a food, considering meat is different than cheese - meat doesn’t have casein. Casein is the milk protein that you’re addicted to.

We do deal with a lot, as vegans, and I commiserate with what you’re saying about getting shit from friends - I find that people being unsupportive of my diet, even though it’s no concern of theirs and doesn’t hinder their lives in any way, is the only hard part of this lifestyle for me. You know what, though? I don’t have any friends who say it’s stupid, because no ‘friend’ wouldn’t take the time to try and understand a life and moral change like veganism that literally hurts no one. If your ‘friends’ are being called stupid and aren’t willing to support you in something you care about, it’s really high time to get some new friends.

As for keeping up with everything, I’m not sure what to tell you - yes, there’s a lot of ingredient-reading in veganism. Yeah, there’s a lot of explaining. Worse, there’s a lot of substituting, especially when you find out our favorite alcoholic drink or shampoo, etcetera, isn’t vegan. But you do it because living cruelty-free means more to you than convenience and hopefully someday (as it’s been starting for years and years) veganism will be as convenient as an omnivore diet. We already have so many amazing products that make our lives easier (one being Daiya, obviously) and the list goes on from there. This day and age, it’s not hard to be a vegan - it’s just mind over matter.

Vegansoapbox has a list of how to get cheese out of your diet - I’ll throw it in for good measure: http://www.vegansoapbox.com/i-cant-live-without-cheese/

Fitness Fun Fact:

I love double and sometimes quadruple dating. My boyfriend and I have so much fun hanging out and connecting with our friends. This more than likely ends up with us all meeting up to go out to dinner to catch up or heading to the movies together and ordering the popcorn. Last night, we changed that. We met up with my best friend and her fiancée at the park last night! We laced up our shoes and went for a 2 mile jog/run. Afterwards, we raced each other to see who was faster in the park parking lot(of course my boyfriend and I won!). It was a different type of meet up but we all had a blast and the best part: we burned calories and drank water instead of consuming calories with food and alcohol. This is just one of the things that we have done together fitness wise. As a matter of fact, my boyfriend and I are actually in a competition with my best friend and her fiancée!  Two weeks ago, we took before pics together. The couple who has made the most improvement at the end of July will receive a prize from the other couple! Cool, huh? It’s funny because the men are so competitive that in return they have been pushing my best friend and I to work that much harder. So fitness fact of the day is, include your friends in your fitness goals. You will have fun and all get healthier at the same time. Now that’s what I call a win win situation!

Lots of excitement today.

Dope social interventionist work:

Great workout with cardio, and a day full of walking. Had a little pistachio gelato after dinner, but other than that good day.

After my workout, I had a banana wrapped in a “flat-out” wrap thing (9grams of protein!) and almond butter. So delicious! Give it a try, fellow fitspos!

I hope you had a great day! Tomorrow is friday and great vibes are all around, you just gotta feel them!

Favorite move of the day:

Today, I did cardio (spin class) with a little bit of abs afterwards. My favorite ab move today was the plank. Man, no matter how much I do this move, my abs get their butt kicked! I usually hold the move for 30 seconds, take a break and repeat. Love it!

What is my theme song of the day? Well, since I went to spin class and was rollin’ with the punches, I decided that “How we roll” would be the best song for today! Busta Rhymes killed it on this! I love it! This song makes me push and then push harder!  What is your theme song song of the day?

As soon as I posted about my first cleanse, my health-conscious friend Amy (loveandplaygrounds) contacted me. Here’s what she had to say:

“Hey I just saw your post about your cleanse and I wanted to tell you that those quick cleanse tablets are an absolute crock. There’s no one thing that is going to flush your system the way you want it. Cleanses are haaard and it requires an extreme diet change and dedication. At least a good one that is going to make you feel any kind of difference is. I just wanted to warn you, but chances are you’re doing more harm than good with those tablets. But then again, I never really trust any products like that.”

I asked her if she has a cleanse she would recommend and how it went:

“I did [a cleanse] the more expensive/painful but effective way and had an actual nutritionist, which you don’t need to pay for if you know what you’re doing. I had a handful of supplements I took everyday and essentially just ate all organic fruit and veggies (but not all) for an entire month. There is a withdrawal for the first day or two because we get so dependent on the chemicals we put in our bodies, but you feel soooo good afterwards. The food was really strict, had to exercise, and even had a regimen for what I could put on my skin (which makes sense because your skin is your largest organ and its only job is to absorb and expel crap). I definitely recommend it, but I don’t know how to tell you to go about doing it at home.”

What supplements was she taking?

“Design for health detox support packets. They’re supposed to supplement all the other nutrients you’re missing from fruits and veggies. I’m sure there’s a book you can find that’ll help. I just recommend all organic. Detox diets have gotten so trendy that people forget it’s about what you’re taking out of your body, not just putting in it.”

That’s a really good point. She said most natural food stores should have something close (if not the same) to the supplements she took.

I guess this isn’t a diet we can pull off in the holidays! Still, I’m going to incorporate more organic raw fruits and veggies. I’ll finish off this cleanse, let you know of any changes, but I REALLY appreciate this, Amy (loveandplaygrounds). You’re a huge help!

This morning I weigh in at 163.5!

I am rid of the 6 lb. gain from last week! I’m sure that alot of that gain was bloat from the mass amount of alchohol I consumed every day last weekend, but still, it feels good to have the number back to what it was before.

SO READY to actually lose this coming week rather than just maintaning like I did through ALL of May. Bummed I wasted all that time, but I’m just gonna’ push myself even harder now!

I feel pudgy and icky! I will definitely do two hours today…

Congratulations on wanting to make a change. It takes work and you might need to reach out for help from your parents, friends, or even the school nurse. Bulimia is a disease so it takes a lot of de-ritualizing and fixing your eating schedule. If you want to go un-anon and I can answer in your ask, we can talk in more detail.

As for stress, we all have to deal with it. Sometimes you just have to pour your stress into something new. A hobby, art, jogging, anything. Lay on your back with your headphones in or pick up a new book. Really immerse yourself into a healthy lifestyle.

my glasses choices… by walkinthesnark on Polyvore.com

It’s a sad truth. I found out on Monday that I’m going blind.

Ok, maybe I only need a small prescription, but until I get a pair of glasses on my face, not being able to see across the room has gotten pretty annoying. Especially since I don’t have the kind of job where I stare at a screen/read all day (not that I would want that job).

Luckily, I already knew about Warby Parker. You can order five pairs of non-prescription glasses to try on at home, and then buy the pair you like with your prescription for only $95.

These are the five I selected. What say you, tumblr world?

Yes, it is a thing! Right here.

What To Eat To Lose Weight Fast...But Safe!:

http://wee.fm/5pcp Cool post - What To Eat To Lose Weight Fast…But Safe!

In the June issue of Allure (sorry male readership), this was a headline tucked in next to January Jones, seated with a bunch of other predictable women’s magazine headlines. Obviously women’s health and beauty mags have the insipid habit of recycling the same bullshit with a new annoyingly sensationalist title slapped on it. I almost skipped it entirely, expecting annoying tips like, “Take a bit of cake and then pretend to sneeze and spit it in a napkin. Then do 5 jumping jacks just to be sure you don’t gain weight from any of the crumbs!”

Joking aside, and being at a loss for content ideas (which is NEVER funny to a blogger), I read the article.

It didn’t totally suck….or it didn’t suck totally. While it still maintained some of the hyper obsession with being a bony sack of a human, it discussed how thin women are the ones who make healthy eating a routine, something that belongs to them, instead of being on a diet. ”The word diet connotes a limited-time affair, but thin women have made eating well a routine: It’s simply something they do day in and day out.”

Of course, I would have probably used different verbage (e.g. “healthy” instead of “skinny chicks), the number of annoying and/or borderline disordered-eating tips were minimal.

“The word diet connotes a limited-time affair, but thin women have made eating well a routine: It’s simply something they do day in and day out.” Well duh. The idea that there isn’t some “loss” period and then “maintenance” period is solid: it has to be the eating/exercising changes you make and live with that cause the weight loss and land you at the right weight for you that make having a “maintenance” mode irrelevant. You’re already there. Tracey Jackson (who wrote Confessions of a Shopaholic) was quoted on this: “Once I stopped going on diets, I not only lost 20 lbs, but I kept it off.”

OK, so what are some of the tips?

  • Thin women cook (yep. easier to control ingredients and working for your meal mans you appreciate it more, honestly.)
  • Portioning some of whatever you cook for lunch the next day in tupperware right away (keeps you from eating seconds but also makes sure you have a healthy lunch the next day).
  • Indulge within reason: You’re never going to have a period in your life when you’re not going to want the occasional cookie or bowl of pasta…you better build that in as part of your routine or you’re destined to fail or yo-yo.
  • Be prepared: this is more or less challenging depending on where and in what environment you work. When I was working in a midtown manhattan high rise, it would have been possible for me to get basically any type of food in 10 minutes or less. But I tried to keep better snacks around for when I got hungry to keep from deciding a 2:30pm cupcakes was a good idea. Turns out, carrots or almonds work just fine…

Probably the most important piece of advice, though, is that you should avoid eating processed foods and sugar substitutes as much as possible.

Diet soda is not a good look and, while I totally NEED to have peanut m&ms in my life once in a while, i feel best when I avoid processed food and sugar. So Beware of the 100-calorie pack. In a study cited in the article they noted that subjects who had raw fruit instead ate 20% fewer calories in their snacks—see, my kiwi and pineapple obsession isn’t a bad thing…even if I’m starting to turn green.

So while I wish the focus would be on how you can heave a balanced and healthy approach to food instead of “what skinny chicks are eating,” these are pretty valid points.

What do you guys think? How effective are these ideas in helping you maintain a healthy look and outlook/image?

PS. You can follow me on twitter here.

I’ve recently, or not so recently leaned up and slimmed down to 160, from 185(it was mostly muscle), and I currently stand at 5’8”. I am in love, love, love with my current physique. I shall continue to stay clear of the gym, and stick with my 2-4 mile run 5 days a week, and what ever I rack up on the mileage via riding the fixie. Additionally I’ve decided to toss pushups and sit ups into the mix, but not as routinely. I guess, the biggest struggle is figuring out a diet that works for me, since, for whatever reason my body is never hungry, ESPECIALLY after working out. This is weird? It’s tough to remember to eat, Argh!

Wouldn’t it be SO amazing if we could in reality have vitamins for love, happiness, health and luck?

Found this too CUTE!

if i could do this, i’d be one happy camper! but i...

Haven’t been eating so great the last two days but today I’ve been making up for it by drinking tons of water and eating alot healthier, and tonight I’m going to work out since I haven’t done it in two days also and my body feels sluggish. Its so weird how your body can get used to working out everyday and when you stop, your body feels completely different…maybe its just me. Even though I haven’t eaten my healthiest the last few days, its time for me to get back on track. I might do some mini workouts tonight since I’m feeling extra motivated :)

Hey Liz! I have a problem with pulling my hair out. People would always say they loved my hair. And then one day uneasy watching

Damaged hair is damaged and shampoo can’t repair it. I have horribly damaged hair from overprocessing (I love my bleach!) and shampoo can’t save that. Shampoos and conditioners just mask the ends which makes them look less damaged. If you want to save your hair, you have to cut off the dead ends. Go check in with your hairdresser!

Last night

Do you ever get that feeling where you don’t want to talk to anybody? You don’t want to smile and you don’t want to fake being happy but at the same time you don’t know exactly what’s wrong either, there isn’t a way to explain it to someone who doesn’t already understand. If you could want anything in the world it would be to be alone. People have stopped being comforting and being alone never was. At least when you’re alone no one constantly asks you what’s wrong and there isn’t anyone who won’t take “I don’t know” for an answer. you feel the way you do just because. you hope the feeling will pass soon and that you will be able to be yourself again, but until then all you can do is wait.

I just found three black hairs on my chest.

No, this is totally normal. You’re like the third girl to talk about this actually! If you use the body tag, you can find girls talking about this. It’s totally normal. It’s because we’re mammals.

All that time in the gym has paid off for Jessica Simpson, who showed off a slimmer figure at US Weekly’s Hot Hollywood party this week.

The designer and singer in 2010
Jessica, who is engaged to NFL player Eric Johnson, is rumoured to be walking down the aisle before the end of the year - but not before shedding a few pounds.

Jessica has been criticised in the past for her fuller figure and fluctuating weight, but from these recent pictures it appears the star is be beating the bulge. She revealed her super toned physique while wearing a tiny tribal print dress on the red carpet for the celebrity event.
The singer and fashion mogul was the honouree of the night as she received the award for Style Icon of the Year.
To get in shape for the wedding, Jessica has hired celebrity fitness trainer Tracey Anderson.

Addressing the issue of her weight, she said last year, “We all obsess over looking like the perfect Barbie type, and that’s not always what’s beautiful. It’s about making peace with yourself.”
This is the second marriage for Jessica, who was previously married to pop star Nick Lachey in 2002 and appeared on MTV reality show ‘Newlyweds’. The couple divorced in 2006. She began dating Johnson in May of last year and the couple announced their engagement this past November.

Kate Middleton Debuts Slimmer Body During Shopping Trip

Kate Middleton Debuts Slimmer Body During Shopping Trip

The royal wedding is only days away and this blushing bride looks as calm as can be.
A slender Kate Middleton was spotted on a mini shopping spree on the streets of London today. The lingering paparazzi didn’t seem to bother the princess-to-be as she made her way in and out of stores in the Chelsea section of London, including Peter Jones department store on Kings Road.

Middleton stunned in a simple black dress and glowing smile, but we can’t help but notice her slimmed-down figure. Maybe this is just the most flattering dress ever made, but it looks like Middleton’s already tiny frame is shrinking even more as the wedding day approaches.
Perhaps even a future princess does a little crash dieting before her big day.

The worst celebrity tattoos

The worst celebrity tattoos

Megan Fox is obviously a huge fan of Hollywood icon Marilyn Monroe. She has a portrait of Marilyn tattooed on her inner right forearm. As much as she admires the buxom blonde movie star we think it is a bit weird to have a permanent mark of another person on your arm.

Hayden Panettiere shows off her tattoo on the left side of her back but the Italian words are misspelt. In full her tattoo reads ‘Vivere senza rimipianti’, which is meant to translate as, ‘to live without regrets’. Unfortunately the last word has an extra ‘I’, and should instead be ‘rimpianti’.

Mike Tyson is fierce enough without the facial tattoo so really he didn’t need his tribal ink. His tattoo is Maori-influenced by which is meant to make the wearer look ferocious.

Amy Winehouse was one of the most talked about celebrities of 2009. Her individual style made her stand out and this included her tattoos. She had her ex-husband’s name ‘Blake’ inscribed on her chest in 2005 just one month after they started dating.

Pamela Anderson made the mistake of tattooing barb wire around the top of her arm. In the ‘90s it was cool but as trends changed Pam received a lot of slack for her body art.

Steve-O is one of the daredevil cast members on MTV’s Jackass and Wild Boys. He inked a portrait of himself to cover the whole of his back. Steve-O is known for doing all kinds of crazy stunts so this is nothing out of the ordinary; he accompanied the portrait with the words “Yeah, dude I rock!” and his autograph.

Britney Spears is no stranger to odd tattoos, sporting a fairy on her lower back and a set of pink lips on her wrist. But the offending ink here is the Kabbalah-inspired tattoo that was supposed to read ‘God’ but was misspelt. She has since had it removed.

David Beckham is covered in tats and it must be said he doesn’t look bad at all. One of his sleeves includes Victoria’s name written in Sanskrit, but spelt ‘Vichtoria’. Oops!

Rihanna has made two tattoo blunders. In 2009 she had ‘forgiveness’ in Hindu Sanskrit tattooed on her hip – with the wrong spelling. She also had ‘Rebelle fleur’ inked in French on her neck last year but put the adjective before the noun so it translates as ‘flower rebel’ instead of ‘rebel flower’.

Kelly Osbourne’s tattoo choices were not so well thought out; the anchor and synthesizer body art on her arms are not subtle. She has decided to get a few of her 15 tattoos removed after realising they were a mistake.
