Bad Gums Linked to Erectile Dysfunction

Bad breath and bleeding gums are not sexy. But periodontitis, an inflammation or infection of the gums, may hamper your sex life in another way: It may be a cause of erectile dysfunction, a new study suggests. So brush floss and gurgle.

followers, i need your help! i managed to convince my friends to go out for sushi instead of much more fattening fish & chips. however, i still need advice! what are my best options for a filling but relatively low cal dinner at a japanese restaurant?!?

We did LOTS of swimming, according to my MyFitnessPal about 700!!!!! WOW in 2 hours. There was so much waves and it was just fun! I even wore a bathing suit!!! with a dress cover for part :P

First, we changed and I took a picture of myself :)

Then we got down to the beach, sooo nice out too,

Then we swam and Shaun and I had my sister take a pic of us :)

THEN I had my sister take a picture of me in JUST my bathing suit (JUST FOR YOU GUYS)

Then finally my sister and I went in the Hurricane Simulator :)

Overall, they day was amazing and Shaun and I plan on going back OFTEN this summer, now that he knows he likes swimming and the beach :)

OMG I’ve lost SO much weight since then! wowza!

Snack: clover leaf dill and lemon tuna.

Ok. This was disgusting. Note to self: don’t try all flavors.

I ate it all because protein is protein. I needed protein in my diet.

I had a terrible night last night with pain and I wasn’t able to sleep much. I got out of bed at 5:30am and walked around a bit and my boyfriend got up and made me a new hot water bottle and after a little while I went back to bed where I slept for 3 hours.

I got up and showered but didn’t eat breakfast, instead we just went straight to the x-ray place where I had an x-ray done of my abdomen. The lady told me that not everything shows up on an x-ray and that I shouldn’t be suprised if I get told to have an ultrasound. I have piled up on All-Bran cereal to try and fill my body with fibre incase this is gas related but I have never felt pain like this in relation to gas, I have however felt this pain when I used to have gallbladder attacks. I have been told by the doctor that even though I have had my gallbladder removed, it is possible for me to still pass gallstones.

I shall be going back to the doctor towards the end of the week and hopefully there will be a solution to my problem. At this point some sleeping pills would be nice.

However, now porcelain veneers are a lot more economical and starting to be much more typical everywhere. Any person who is own conscious regarding their smirk can benefit from porcelain veneers.

Porcelain veneers can fix anything from chipped teeth to gaps in between tooth and discoloration. The process of porcelain veneers begins with finding a dentist that you trust and that understand what you are trying to achieve in getting your set of veneers. Bring in magazine cut-out of what you would like your smile to look like to help give the dentist a visual idea. Your dentist will then take x-rays, impressions and examine your current teeth to see what options you will have and figure out how to construct your set of porcelain veneers.

Once you and your dentist have determined the look you want the dentist will construct the porcelain veneers which can take up to two weeks. When they are finished you will make an appointment to have them installed. The dentist in Oklahoma City will trim off a thin layer of enamel off of your teeth, about the same thickness of the veneers that will be placed there. They will then test the veneers and make any adjustments to them before applying the bonding agent. Once they fit perfectly, the teeth will get cleaned and etched in order to give the cement bonding agent a rough surface to adhere to. The pediatric dentist lincoln uses a unique light to activate the bonding in between the tooth and the porcelain veneer.

This happens allllll the time, honey. Use a new or sharp razor every time (apparently, if you run a disposable razor the opposite way against your jeans it’ll ‘sharpen it’), shave at the end of the shower when the hair is softer and your pores are open, and lather up with a sensitive skin shaving lotion. Aside from that, you can either wax, use an electric razor, I think there’s sensitive Nair, and someone even mentioned a sugar scrub thingy. Above all, choose what you want to do. It’s your body.

Started my day with 20 crunches and 10 push ups. After that, I ate some gingerbread and a peach. And now I feel like I can handle the whole world!

My problems with my shoes are gone - I just had to figure out how to wear them (if that makes any sense).

Also, AG, that’s awesome! I’ve noticed most of my cravings are gone as well. Especially from not having soda for awhile.

BIG UPDATE: I went to a Charity event yesterday at Wing Chun place near me. Wing Chun is that kung fu I was telling you that my friend just got into. I signed up, completely forgetting that I was starting a new job this week. BUT! It does seem to be a great workout and it’s useful because it’s all self-defense techniques and real-life situations and stuff like that. Plus the instructors are really cute. I couldn’t pass up the chance.

So, I’m starting work today and I’m going to see my schedule and I’m going to try and balance Wing Chun and the job. I probably will have to call the cute instructors and tell them I can’t make it three times a week.

We’ll see. I’ll keep you updated!

Oh! And I started running the lake. I’m not to a 3 minute run, but so far I think I’m doing pretty well and I feel a lot more worked out when I finish.

It’s raining a lot here, so my real problem is trying to stay dry. hahaha

BH

So, I’ve been a vegan for about a month now and a vegetarian for almost a year (3 months shy). Although, I feel like I cheated because I was a pescatarian in the beginning…I’m not going to be too hard on myself because I am what I am now and the past is the past.

The best part about being vegan is that not only do I feel good, I look good. I have lost 10 lbs and it’s so much easier to pass everything through. I know that’s a bit personal but, hey, it’s natural!

So, I just wanted to update you guys on what’s going on because I haven’t been on for awhile.

Now, I’m gonna enjoy my vacation :) My sister, best friend, and I are in Maine with my family and it’s the most beautiful place in the world.

  • i slept in rather than practice yoga this morning, but that’s okay because i did 4 days this week and that was my goal!
  • 3.5 miles this afternoon, then maybe a teeny bit of ab/upper body work if i’m feeling up to it.
  • the high is near 100 so i’ll probably get outside early and read/swim/lament buying my new bathing suit bottoms in the wrong size then losing the receipt
  • i just found out that my mom is making nothing that i can eat for dinner so i have to figure out what the hell to make for myself

i also really want to watch love and other drugs. but i’ve heard that it’s not appropriate to watch with parents…but i don’t want to offend them by hoarding it alone in my room. then again, my parents watched misfits with me and just looked past the sexy parts and “it’s that british show about superhero teenagers” to them.

5 Muscle Myths

Turn on the music and press the treadmill, because starting Monday, I am officially loosing weight. I am going to build tummy muscles and be thin by the time I go to Burning Man this August.  Go beauty **twirls finger in air while rolling eyes**

Brain cancer diagnosis and treatment. http://dld.bz/qGFa health

Ran a 10k this morning with my bud, Maza at the Standard Chartered KL Marathon 2011 at Dataran Merdeka. This is my second time participating in this event, and I have to say it is so much better the second time around. Cause lets face it, last year’s organization was bullshit. Seriously, only two water stations for the entire stretch of 10km. Are you freaking kidding me?

This year however, they man-up, and all the runners were able to rehydrate with H2O and 100 plus at least every 2.5 km. Which explains why I performed so much better this time around. Well, I best my time last year by 10 minutes. I know, big deal, 10 minutes, whatevs right?

It is kinda a big deal considering that it was the hardest thing I ever had to finish in my entire life, ever. The last km was the worst. Like, am I ever gonna get there???

But I did. And I felt thriumphant. Heh.

Just lemme bask in this a coupla days more.

Switch your birth control.

Oral contraceptives contain estrogen, which causes your adrenal glands to produce fluid-retaining hormones, explains Mary Jane Minkin, MD, clinical professor of obstetrics, gynecology, and reproductive sciences at the Yale School of Medicine. The experience is highly individual: Some women don’t notice an increase in bloating, while others feel themselves puffing up within days of starting a new pill. If you fall in the second camp, talk to your ob-gyn about trying another brand. Both Yasmin and Yaz contain the hormone drospirenone, which may ease bloat, since it’s also a diuretic. Of the 70 percent of women in a recent study in the journal Contraception who reported abdominal bloating while taking birth control pills, about half said their symptoms were gone after six months of switching to Yasmin. One caveat: Because drospirenone can increase levels of potassium in the body, women who frequently take other medications that increase potassium (such as NSAIDs and ACE inhibitors) aren’t good candidates for this type of oral contraceptive.

Go easy on diet drinks.

Many sugar-free beverages, candies, and gum contain the sweetener sorbitol. Though it’s a great calorie cutter, sorbitol isn’t digestible, so it sends stomach enzymes into overdrive, Gidus says. When patients with abdominal bloating were put on sorbitol-free and sugar-free diets, nearly half saw their symptoms disappear, one study found. Although the FDA requires companies to put a warning label on products that “may result in a daily consumption of 50 grams of sorbitol,” experts note that as little as 10 grams can trigger stomach trouble. Sorbitol can add up quickly: One piece of sugar-free gum has about 1.25 grams, for instance.

Trim the fat.

You ate fried onion rings on Friday night, but now it’s Saturday afternoon and you swear they’re still hanging out in your belly. It’s possible: High-fat foods delay the emptying of the stomach, which may lead to bloating and an overall feeling of fullness. A study in Australia found a direct correlation between bloating and the amount of fat in women’s diets. “I’ve seen many women who assumed they were lactose intolerant because they felt bloated after eating a bowl of ice cream; it turned out it wasn’t the milk but the fat that was the culprit,” Kirkpatrick says. Don’t eliminate fat: “Foods rich in heart-healthy fats, such as avocados, olive oil, and nuts, are actually low-gas producing,” Dr. Gerbstadt says. “The key is to focus on these good fats and pair them with lean protein, such as chicken or fish, which aids in their digestion.”’

Eat broccoli every day.

It sounds counterintuitive, but regularly eating foods that are likely to cause gas, like beans, broccoli, brussels sprouts, cabbage, and onions, helps your body adjust and learn to break them down efficiently. “I’ve seen women run into problems when they eat these foods infrequently, say once a week,” Kirkpatrick says. “Their digestive tract isn’t used to them, so they produce a ton of extra gas and bloating.”

Slow down.

“A lot of my clients are busy working moms who are eating food either in their car orwalking to the office,” says Jeannie Gazzaniga-Moloo, PhD, RD, spokesperson for the American Dietetic Association. “The problem with eating on the go is that you take big bites of food and don’t chew properly, so you end up swallowing a tremendous amount of air.” Her advice: Take 15 to 20 minutes to eat each meal — yes, even if you’re munching on the run. “Take a deep breath after each bite and chew with your mouth closed. This forces you to breathe through your nose, which relaxes and slows you down.” While you’re at it, if you’re sipping on the go, opt for a cup, not a straw: The latter promotes ingestion of gas.

Choose supplements carefully.

If you take a calcium supplement, know which compound is in it. One that contains calcium carbonate, like Tums or Os-Cal, is more likely to cause gas and bloating because it’s harder for your stomach to break down than one with calcium citrate, such as Citracal, according to the National Institutes of Health. Either way, taking a supplement with an acidic drink, such as orange or grapefruit juice, will help you absorb calcium. Many women also experience bloating if they use an omega-3 supplement, Gazzaniga-Moloo says. “Put it in the refrigerator and have it cold; this seems to help reduce the burping and bloating that often come with taking such a supplement,” she says.

Cut back on the sweet stuff.

Fructose, the simple sugar found in syrup, honey, and soft drinks, may be the source of some of your tummy troubles: Three out of four people with unexplained GI symptoms, such as bloating, had fructose intolerance, according to a University of Iowa study. Like lactose intolerance, this condition can be diagnosed with a simple breath test. The good news: Being fructose intolerant doesn’t mean you have to swear off this healthy, sweet diet staple. “Most people are fine with actual fruit, especially if they spread their servings throughout the day, but you may need to steer clear of processed foods or soft drinks made with high-fructose corn syrup, like sweetened drinks or soft drinks,” Dr. Saito says. Juice may also trigger a reaction, since it’s more concentrated.

Get checked for allergies.

If your bloating is accompanied by nasal congestion, allergies may be the surprising reason. “When your nose is stuffed up, you end up primarily breathing through your mouth, which means you swallow a lot of air, which could cause bloating,” Dr. Saito says.

Be takeout savvy.

“Steamed veggie plates seem like a smart option if you’re ordering Chinese food, but if you’re prone to bloating, you should realize that many of the vegetables, like bok choy, can produce tons of gas,” says Jackie Keller, a celebrity nutritionist in Los Angeles.

Skip the salt.

You’ve heard it before, and we’ll say it again: Salt causes your body to retain fluid. That’s good news if you’re training for a marathon. Bad news if you’re trying to squeeze into a new dress for your friend’s wedding. The biggest culprit? “Sauces and salad dressings,” Keller says, “especially at restaurants.” To play it safe, order dressings and sauces on the side, or season lightly with olive oil and vinegar.

There are plenty of muscle myths out there. Here are five of the most common ones, and the truth behind the fiction:

1. Muscle will turn to fat if you stop exercising.

This muscle myth has been around for a long time. The truth is that muscle and fat are two different types of tissue, so one can’t convert to the other.

The reason why this myth persists is because many of us have seen muscular people who, once they stop exercising, become fat. But the reason why they become fat isn’t because their muscle has turned into fat, it’s because they have stopped working out but have continued to consume the same number of calories as when they were working out. So they end up losing lean muscle mass because they are no longer exercising, and they end up gaining body fat because they are consuming more calories than their new sedentary bodies need.

2. Muscle weighs more than fat.

This is another muscle myth that’s been around for a long time. The truth is that muscle does not weigh more than fat – one pound of muscle and one pound of fat both weigh one pound.

But muscle is more dense than fat, which means that one pound of muscle takes up less space than one pound of fat. This is the reason why you can have two people who are both the same height and weight, but the one with more muscle and less body fat will look leaner than the one with more body fat and less muscle.

3. Muscle loss is inevitable as you get older.

Muscle loss is not the normal result of aging, it’s primarily the result of a sedentary lifestyle. If you don’t use your muscles they waste away. Once the average sedentary person reaches age 65, they will have lost up to 40% of their lean muscle mass compared to when they were young adults.

Multiple studies have shown that older people respond very well to weight lifting and are able to build lean muscle mass very effectively. Even people in nursing homes have been able to increase lean muscle mass when put on an appropriate weight lifting program.

4. Women will develop big, bulky muscles if they lift weights.

The reality is that most women don’t have enough of the hormone testosterone (a key hormone for building muscle) to develop big, bulky muscles. Without using steroids to unnaturally alter their testosterone levels, it’s not possible for most women to develop big, bulky muscles.

It’s important for women to realize that lifting weights will not give them a big, bulky body, but instead it will give them a strong, firm, toned body.

5. Muscle has no effect on fat loss.

Actually, building more lean muscle mass is one of the keys to fat loss. This is because muscle is metabolically active tissue, which means that the more lean muscle mass you have the higher your metabolism will be. The higher your metabolism, the more calories your body burns to maintain itself. The more calories your body burns to maintain itself, the more body fat you lose.

In conclusion, now that these common muscle myths have been dispelled, make sure that weight lifting – the best way to build and maintain lean muscle mass – is a part of your fitness program.

What Is the Remedy for Puffy Eyes?

I fucking love carrots. Seriously.

I had a problem with comfort eating. I ate when I was happy, sad, stressed… you name an emotion or situation and I ate. I’ve managed to pretty much completely stop that bad habit, but for times when I absolutely must eat to feel better… I grab a full sized carrot.

Good carrots are sweet, crunchy and filling. They provide you with tons of vitamins and nutrients, plus they are considered a “negative calorie” food. One carrot satisfies that need to bite the hell out of something and fills my stomach.

Eat more carrots.

Video blog regarding my weightloss journey :)

Gonna stay home tomorrow and work out instead of walking to the gym.

My legs are feeling awful sore, and my ankles are a little swollen for some reason - probably the excessive walking and stuff… And I’m feeling super gross now, so I can only imagine how I’ll feel when I wake up. :(

14 miles in 4 days is a lot for me.

Goodnight everybody. :)

haha it was definitely never planned. i’ve had a personal tumblr for a while now, but i was never that into it. i guess i created this health tumblr simply because i wanted to share some of the things that i’ve learned over the years through my reading + researching random stuff.

i figure that the majority of people want to change their appearance (lose weight, gain weight, gain muscle, etc.), but many don’t try to understand the ‘how’ and ‘why’ of things. regardless, i love it when people work to become healthier and just wanted to provide helpful tips.

thanks so much! :)

For the past couple of days, I’ve been a lot better about taking care of my skin in the morning and especially at night. Usually at the end of the day, I’m tired and lazy and just won’t wash my face until the morning. Well I’ve been breaking out bad lately so I decided that NEEDED to change. I went to the store this morning and bought a new facial cleanser and a clay face mask. I used them both tonight, before I go to bed….But that’s kinda where it starts. I start taking better care of my skin but then I stay up until 4am.

Or I’ll start exercising but then eat nothing but brownies all day. I feel like no matter how I try to tip the personal maintenance scale in one direction, I end up tilting it back in the opposite direction at the same time.

Things I need to get more serious about (at the same time, preferably):

  • Take better care of my skin. Wash it when I wake up and before I go to bed. Exfoliate and facial mask a couple times a week.
  • Diet. Not a diet, but improve mine. Eat more veggies and fruits. Less processed crap. I’ve mentioned this before but maybe if I keep repeating it, I’ll finally follow through.
  • Drink more water. Every day. Instead of spending $4 on a sugary drink at Starbucks every morning, how about just having a glass of water? It’ll clear up my skin, too….
  • Exercise. Work out. Get active. Run, walk, crunches and squats, hula hoop. Do something, goddamnit.
  • Get more sleep. Better sleep hours. Don’t stay up until the sunrise….Like now. preferable bed time between 12-2, ideal bedtime between 11-1. And I hate staying up this late then sleeping until the afternoon. I feel like my day has been wasted.

Come on, Suzy, you can do it.

What are Clinical Leptospirosis management methods http://bit.ly/b0sW1W health disease

Have you really tried today?

Okay, so I’ve decided I really need to re-arrange my lifestyle. I’ve haven’t been treating myself kindly lately, and am consumed by only negative thoughts of my well-being. Due to these persistent, harmful internal focuses, I’m going to try to alter aspects of my life to, hopefully, over time, benefit my perspective of myself.

Beginning changes:

·         Diet

·         Sleeping habits

·         Physical exercise

I think focusing on only 3 unhealthy behaviours in my life at the moment will allow me to put all my efforts into these factors without feeling overwhelmed. Working on these unhealthy factors in my life will take some time, so initially; I’m going to be working rather slowly.

Although, I am worried about my motivation but doing health science courses at uni have helped me realise that rewards really aid in continuing a changed behaviour. Instead of rewarding myself with unhealthy foods (as I usually do), every couple of weeks or so, if I persist in my behaviour changes, I could buy myself something small, such as a bracelet or a ring. It’s not much but I think that will help my enthusiasm and determination.

What are SideEffects and recovery from a lumbar puncture, spinal tap http://bit.ly/czJbjR health

For the average person happiness is a choice, yet numerous people are unhappy.  There are many reasons, but it all boils down to one simple principle:  They choose something else over happiness.  Because it often takes less effort to be unhappy.

For example, instead of seeking happiness, they…

  • Lazily follow the path of least resistance.
  • Refuse to accept change.
  • Aimlessly try to control the uncontrollable.
  • Etc. etc. etc.

Averting these poor choices and the negative attitudes that accompany them is the key.  The list below will give you some ideas on how to do just that.

Most people are about as happy as they make up their minds to be.
- Abraham Lincoln

1.  Lack of meaning in one’s day to day life.

Franklin D. Roosevelt once said, “Happiness is not in the mere possession of money; it lies in the joy of achievement, in the thrill of creative effort.”  With the modern 9 to 5 work schedule it’s so easy to trap yourself into doing what you don’t want to do for 40 hours every week and then mindlessly waste all your free time being lazy.

Sure you have responsibilities.  And no, you won’t be able to do what you want to do every waking minute of your life.  But you almost always have a choice to do more of what you really want to do – to work on something that matters to you – something that moves you and gives your life meaning.

You must leave time to follow your inner curiosity and passion.

2.  Obsession with the past or future.

Right now is life.  If you dwell on things that happened in the past, or obsess yourself too much with the things that might happen in the future, you’ll miss everything.

Focus on the present, not yesterday or tomorrow.  As Helen Keller once said, “When one door of happiness closes, another opens, but often we look so long at the closed door that we do not see the one that has been opened for us.”

Oftentimes we fixate our minds on the way things can be, should be, or will be someday.  But life always takes place in the present.  You never know what the future holds – whether or not you and your loved ones will still have good health or even be alive.  The opportunity to enjoy life is now.  Make time to do so.

3.  Feeling out of shape and unhealthy.

Remember, your health is your life, and your body is the greatest tool you’ll ever own.

If you are a little overweight, cut back on some of the fatty foods, get outside and take a two mile walk every day.  Losing extra body fat decreases your health risks, makes you look and feel better, and generally increases your self-esteem and happiness.

Don’t go on binge diets and crash exercise regimens.  Instead, gradually change the way you eat and live so you create new health habits that can be sustained for a lifetime.

4.  Unfavorably comparing oneself to others.

When you catch yourself comparing yourself to a colleague, neighbor, friend, or someone famous, stop!  Realize that you are different, with different strengths – strengths these other people don’t possess.  Take a moment to reflect on all the awesome abilities you have and to be grateful for all the good things in your life.

The problem with many of us is that we think we’ll be happy when we reach a certain level in life — a level we see others operating at – your boss with her corner office, that friend of a friend who owns a mansion on the beach, etc.  Unfortunately, it takes awhile before you get there, and when you get there, you might have a new destination in mind.

Instead, appreciate where you are and what you have right now.  Try comparing yourself to those who have less, those who are dealing with tragedy, and those who are struggling to survive. Hopefully it opens your eyes to all the things you should be grateful for.  PS:  Help people who have less if you’re able… you’ll see why.

5.  Focusing on negatives.

You can’t control everything that happens to you, but you can control how you react to things.  Everyone’s life has positive and negative aspects — whether you’re happy or not depends greatly on which aspects you focus on.  For instance:

  • Did you get catch a head cold?  At least it’s only a temporary virus and nothing life-threatening.
  • Did you lose a basketball game?  Thankfully you got to spend the afternoon with friends doing something fun and healthy.
  • Did your stock market savings go down?  It’ll bounce back in the long-term.  And besides, it’s great that you’ve been diligent and fortunate enough to save a nest egg of savings when many people are barely making ends meet.

You get the idea — almost everything in life has a positive side, and focusing on these positives injects happiness into your atmosphere.  So stop concentrating on how difficult things are and why you don’t want to do them.  Focus instead on the benefits these things have and the opportunities they will create for you — the positives.

6.  Avoiding personal accountability.

Either you take accountability for your life or someone else will.  And when they do, you’ll become a slave to their ideas and dreams instead of a pioneer of your own.

You are the only one who can directly control the outcome of your life.  And no, it won’t always be easy.  Every person has a stack of obstacles in front of them.  You must take accountability for your situation and overcome these obstacles.  Choosing not to is choosing a lifetime of mere existence.

7.  Perfectionism and fear of failure.

If you work hard, do your best and then condemn yourself for not achieving perfection, you’re sabotaging your future.  Likewise, if your fear of failure, or of not being perfect, has driven you to take the safe road of doing nothing, you have already failed.

Perfect is the enemy of good.  Learn to accept the good – learn to love things when they are less than ‘perfect.’

If you find yourself at a point of intense decision making where you’re caught in a spiral of over-analysis and you’re making no progress, take a deep breath, break the spiral, make an educated guess on the next logical step, and take it.  Even if you get it wrong you’ve learned something, which is better than doing nothing.  Your failures along the road to your goals are simply opportunities to learn and grow.

Remember, the real world doesn’t reward perfectionists; it rewards people who get things done.

8.  A low self-esteem.

Don’t belittle yourself and don’t put up with people who try to belittle you.

Marcus Aurelius once said, “Very little is needed to make a happy life; it is all within yourself, in your way of thinking.”  Boost your self-esteem by recognizing your accomplishments and celebrating them.  Acknowledge your positive qualities, and when you come across a quality in yourself that you aren’t proud of, don’t sulk in your sorrows, proactively work on correcting it.
How you view yourself and your world are conscious choices and habits.  The lens you choose to view everything through determines how you feel about yourself and everything that happens around you.

9.  Financial debt.

The only way to get out of debt is to understand why you’re in debt in the first place.

But the sad truth is, if you’re a spendthrift…

You will not save money when you get your next raise.  You will not save money when your car is paid off.  You will not save money when your kids are supporting themselves someday.  And you wouldn’t even save a dime if I handed you $100,000 in cash right now.

How do I know this?

Because saving money has very little to do with the amount of money you have.  In fact, you will only start to save money when saving becomes an emotional habit – when you start treating the money you handle everyday differently.

In general, live a comfortable life, not a wasteful one.  Do not spend to impress others.  Do not live life trying to fool yourself into thinking wealth is measured in material objects.  Manage your money wisely so your money does not manage you.  Always live well below your means.

10.  All work and no play.

Fun is way underrated.  With all of our responsibilities, fun seems like an indulgence.  It shouldn’t be.  It should be a requirement.  Ponder what you did to have fun when you were younger and go do it again.  Leave the house messy and the yard un-mowed for a weekend and get out on the town.  When you’re older, you will remember the fun, not the clean house or yard.

Go to a carnival, play a card game, shoot darts with a friend, play catch with a kid, etc.

Make time for fun!

11.  Neglecting personal relationships.

The quality of our personal relationships correlates directly with our overall sense of worth and happiness.  Sometimes in the midst of life’s chaos we forget to do the little things that remind us we’re part of something greater than ourselves.  We need a certain amount of meaningful contact with other people to feel fully alive.

Make time for people, even if it’s just a quick meal at lunchtime.  It’s worth sacrificing a few minutes here and there to experience life outside your own inner bubble.

And remember, you don’t need a certain number of friends, just a number of friends you can be certain of.

12.  Procrastination.

Nothing is so draining and stressful as the eternal presence of an unfinished task.

There are plenty of ways to sabotage your personal happiness, dreams and desires.  Procrastination, however, is the number one killer.  Procrastinators self-destruct.  They hinder their own potential by placing colossal road-blocks along the path to happiness and success.  In other words, they subconsciously choose to fail.

Do you put off doing things that would bring you closer to your desired goals?  I know I do at times.  But why are we so foolish?

It has something to do with how our daily responsibilities overwhelm us.  In the midst of all the important things we know we need to do, we somehow convince ourselves that none of these things need to be done right now.  In other words, we decide that some peace and relaxation in the short term is what’s most important.

So we take another break, read another blog post, watch another TV show and just kick back and relax.  And life is blissfully dandy… for a little while.  But then suddenly the inevitable deadline has arrived.  Ahhh!  It’s panic time!

By taking the time and initiative to understand your own reasons for procrastinating and devoting a little energy to take the necessary steps to move forward, you can beat procrastination.  We all can.  In fact, simply writing this article was a testament to this.  I kept procrastinating on writing it because I lacked focus.  So I locked myself in my bedroom, eliminated all distractions, kept the end in mind and started writing.  And as usual, starting was the hardest part.  Now I’m done.

this (thursday) evening, the ONE campaign is premiering their movie “vodoo and vaccines in benin, africa” via facebook. the movie can be viewed at 20:00 (CET) through this facebook app (corresponding fb event).

the movie is about current medical practices in benin that bring together traditional healers and modern doctors to give children access to life-saving vaccines.

the interesting part is that they decided to do this via facebook instead of just launching a website at a certain time, or a video on youtube/vimeo. i wonder who’s consulting them.

Tesco mistake leads to beer rush

An error which slashed the price of beer and cider led to a stampede of customers at a number of Tesco supermarkets in Scotland.

A deal offering three boxes of various alcoholic drinks for £20 was going through the tills at three for £11.

Police were called to Tesco in Greenock after heavy congestion was reported in the car park as customers rushed to get the deal…

News of the error spread quickly from about 1900 BST, with many people posting messages on social networking sites…

One customer said the situation was “bedlam” as people phoned their friends and some went home to change clothing to come back and buy more beer.

MH,
The biggest thing for me: an app called NTC. It helps so much. It gives you a full work out. And it’s really fun. You work out for fun goals. Trust me. Check it out.

This goes for all Journalers trying to be more fit.

Weezy: Cool.  Hey, Journalers, why not go onto the social network and recommend apps that you love?!

We all win when we give a decent attempt to succeed. The question becomes, are you truly giving it a decent attempt? I mean, a truly decent attempt in which you know deep down you really tried.

Sometimes you need a little motivation for exercise.  Maybe you workout with someone else or in a group (I highly suggest either one), or maybe some good music gets you motivated.  Whatever it is find what works for you, and use it often!  I am motivated by the feeling I get immediately following a workout… when you are tired, breathing heavy and you have all those endorphins rushing through your body!  Great feeling.

I would like to give a little advice to those who are beginning to workout.  Don’t look at exercise like some daunting task, or something that can’t be fun.  You should over time come to enjoy working out…it might take time, practice and more practice but you will get into a routine and start to enjoy it.  Be patient, and sometimes find an activity that you enjoy.  Swimming, sand volleyball, skiing, hiking…anything that involves physical activity that you can enjoy is a great way to incorporate a that word “fit” into your lifestyle.

If only Nestle’s Fitness and Fruit and Cereal isn’t that expensive, I’d definitely be buying 2 big boxes in one payday. One carton of that cereal is only good for 2 days consumption. I love it because it speeds up my metabolism and I’m beyond frustrated these past few days because wala na ko mayo ka moshi. Pffft!

Always trust a yoga student

Hmmm no…The other day someone said he like this one picture of me two years ago because I was ‘busty”. No, I never have been- you can credit my supposed bustiness to a good bra and flattering shirt.

Oh and then he said I’m going to feed you so much so you can look like that again. So yea I took that in a negative way. I was ticked.

I went vegan out of pure disgust for what I was eating, and for what I’d eaten all my life. The truth of the matter is, I think cannibalism is fucking unbearably gross - and eating animals is not different. Whether it’s a product of an animal, the eggs, or the flesh itself, it’s all the same. I went vegan because I no longer wanted to be a speciesist hypocrite contributing to an industry that commits genocide on hundreds of thousands of harmless creatures with the same natural right we have to not be made to die prematurely or be exploited. As it says in my sidebar, the vegan lifestyle is devoid of murder, cruelty, speciesism, and contribution to the rape the dairy industry exists from.

Beyond that? Veganism is the cleanest way to live (besides raw veganism, but that’s a step I cannot take yet). All the dairy you consume contains an incredible amount of fat, drugs, and not to mention byproducts you don’t want to be consuming (pus, blood, radiation from Japan…) the list goes on. I don’t want that in my body at all. We’re not meant to digest dairy or flesh - why do you think like 90% of the population of the world is lactose intolerant to some degree? That’s an insane amount.

See my Dairy, Milk, Meat, and Animal Cruelty tags for more reasons why I’m vegan.

AND THE CRAZY KEEPS ON COMIN'

I have to.  There’s no way it can be accurate.  I’m hungover.  I ate at a weird time last night that I don’t know.  I am dehydrated.

I have yet to step on the scale at all…and I am semi-tempted to just put it off until next week…simply because I don’t even think I lost at all…

I have 1 week until my graduation party.

So here’s my week plan:

  • Monday - Gym
  • Tuesday- Six Flags(a lot of walking) - NO JUNK FOOD AT ALL
  • Wednesday - Gym
  • Thursday - Gym
  • Friday - Gym

See a trend?  I am angry that I feel like I am on a plateau, and I want nothing more than to beat the hell out of it and see the scale drop.

Anger is usually a bad thing, but it’s just what I need right now to keep going and not give up.

what’s there to fear about weight loss? It should be something that drives and motivates you, not makes you fearful!

However I used to have a fear of weight loss because my “friends” (really just peers) were judging me SO hard. It was weird, at first they were so proud of me for losing weight, and then when I started looking really awesome (I reached my lowest weight of 140 lbs like three weeks ago— which I have since bounced back from…) they started saying things like “YOU NEED TO EAT” .. even though I was…

They were judging me on something they knew nothing about and that really bothered me. But it doesn’t anymore, I’m doing this for myself— not for them.

I need to make a brochure about an STI for health. So what are some interesting sexually transmitted infections out there?

This week was my birthday “week,” which turned into many parties along with tons of food and alcohol. I’m counting this as my rest “week.” I guess I deserved it(; And the best thing is, I don’t feel that guilty… just a little. Back on track tomorrow(:

Last night I had pb&j oatmeal and this morning I had it with smart balance butter and salt. A warm bowl of oatmeal was always a comfort in the winter, but I forget how incredibly filling and good for you it is. I would have sworn by oatmeal as my key to weight loss. So I’m gonna start eating it more and making and finding different recipes to use it with - sweet and savory.

Also, I tried quinoa last night at my boyfriend’s. It’s DELICIOUS (and sort of a lot like oatmeal.) I need to get me some of that too.

Sleepiness makes fatty foods extra tempting

Exercise:

  • Bike: 1 hour. Throughout the day. I did about 15 minutes in the morning and 45 at night.
  • Chest Press: 3 sets at 37.5 lbs of 15 reps.
  • Rows: 3 sets. 2 at 50 lbs for 15 reps. 1 set of 62.5 lbs for 5 reps!
  • Stretching

Food:

  • Breakfast: Kashi go lean with a banana.
  • Lunch: Yogurtland froyo :D
  • Dinner: Stew… again.
  • Snacks: Beef jerky.

I feel like I almost didn’t eat enough calories today. It wasn’t terribly healthy :) I went realized I was pretty hungry when I went to bed but I was too tired to think much about it.

So the video said to drink lots of water before eating anything and before you start your day. 1 to 2 liters. Now I don’t know about you, but 2 liters is a looott and before I even drink that to get to breakfast it will be 3 in the afternoon.

So, I will drink a lot of water, maybe half a liter and start there, then take a vitamin or two and begin the day.

:)

The EWG points out that if consumers simply chose their daily recommended five servings of fruit and vegetables from the least contaminated list over five from the dirty dozen, they would reduce the amount of pesticides ingested by 92% - without having to shell out extra money for organics.

Feeling drowsier during the day because you didn’t catch enough ZZZs at night may make it easier for you to give in to temptation, suggests a preliminary study to be presented at the 2011 meeting of the Associated Professional Sleep Societies.

When you don’t get the rest you need, “you might not have the ability to say no to that extra cookie or dessert,” points out Killgore, and you’re a little more likely to take in a few extra calories a day.

Healthy Skin Is A Breeze With The Help Of Certified Organic And Natural Beauty And Skin Solutions:

Most people are very concerned with the state of their skin, lately. That’s not really surprising, since there are thousands of skin care products on the market and more popping up every day. Makeup, moisturizers, lotions and soaps are just a few of the categories that they fall under. Unfortunately, though, many of them could actually be hazardous to your health. That’s why you should seriously consider using organic skin products as an alternative. The problem, you see, is that many people assume that traditional cosmetics are regulated and tested. Really, the government has little say, as far as what goes…

Today I got my treadmill, I’m super super excited to begin some legit exercise finally! I’ve lost 24.4lbs with very little exercise, so I’m excited to amp it up. The one time I lost a lot of weight in the past years and years ago it was from consistently using the treadmill.

I’m going to make myself turn into a complete exercise freak, I really want to be one of those people who claims to be “addicted” to exercise/the endorphin rush.

So for the rest of the week, I’m going to use the treadmill for a minimum of 2hrs a day. Aka 10 hrs. It will mostly be fast walking, a bit of jogging and a bit of running. With my intake I post everyday, I’ll also post my workouts and miles/km run. But I won’t post “net calories” I don’t think.

I weighed in at 239.8 lbs on sunday and I want to weigh-in at 234.6 lbs or less this sunday! Then I will have lost 30 lbs. Which will be spectacular. =]

Food wise or exercise wise, any suggestions?
