Make yourself unstoppable.

Ran 3 miles. Walked 2. Jumped rope for 25 minutes.

Ate a tablespoon of cinnamon… for fun, at the boys house. Haha. Saw it on Tosh.O and I said, “Why the hell not?”

It burned. Like, oh my lord, did it burn. Haha, but it was good fun.

No practice until Saturday or maybe Friday. :(
Gonna be jumping rope at my house. But it’s not the same. Haha.

I’m… Like… BEAT.

Sooooo, night loves.

Bad Gums Linked to Erectile Dysfunction

Bad breath and bleeding gums are not sexy. But periodontitis, an inflammation or infection of the gums, may hamper your sex life in another way: It may be a cause of erectile dysfunction, a new study suggests. So brush floss and gurgle.

Snack: clover leaf dill and lemon tuna.

Ok. This was disgusting. Note to self: don’t try all flavors.

I ate it all because protein is protein. I needed protein in my diet.

I had a terrible night last night with pain and I wasn’t able to sleep much. I got out of bed at 5:30am and walked around a bit and my boyfriend got up and made me a new hot water bottle and after a little while I went back to bed where I slept for 3 hours.

I got up and showered but didn’t eat breakfast, instead we just went straight to the x-ray place where I had an x-ray done of my abdomen. The lady told me that not everything shows up on an x-ray and that I shouldn’t be suprised if I get told to have an ultrasound. I have piled up on All-Bran cereal to try and fill my body with fibre incase this is gas related but I have never felt pain like this in relation to gas, I have however felt this pain when I used to have gallbladder attacks. I have been told by the doctor that even though I have had my gallbladder removed, it is possible for me to still pass gallstones.

I shall be going back to the doctor towards the end of the week and hopefully there will be a solution to my problem. At this point some sleeping pills would be nice.

Porcelain Veneers

Your smile can be your biggest asset and your very best feature. There are quite a few ways to boost your smirk such as braces, tooth brightening, etc., but sometimes these strategies are not sufficient to accomplish the smirk you want. With porcelain veneers it is easy to change the form and coloration of your enamel. Porcelain veneers are quite well-liked among celebrities, especially singers, where many attention goes to their mouth. However, now porcelain veneers are a lot more economical and starting to be much more typical everywhere. Any person who is own conscious regarding their smirk can benefit from porcelain veneers.

Porcelain veneers can fix anything from chipped teeth to gaps in between tooth and discoloration. The process of porcelain veneers begins with finding a dentist that you trust and that understand what you are trying to achieve in getting your set of veneers. Bring in magazine cut-out of what you would like your smile to look like to help give the dentist a visual idea. Your dentist will then take x-rays, impressions and examine your current teeth to see what options you will have and figure out how to construct your set of porcelain veneers.

Once you and your dentist have determined the look you want the dentist will construct the porcelain veneers which can take up to two weeks. When they are finished you will make an appointment to have them installed. The dentist in Oklahoma City will trim off a thin layer of enamel off of your teeth, about the same thickness of the veneers that will be placed there. They will then test the veneers and make any adjustments to them before applying the bonding agent. Once they fit perfectly, the teeth will get cleaned and etched in order to give the cement bonding agent a rough surface to adhere to. The pediatric dentist lincoln uses a unique light to activate the bonding in between the tooth and the porcelain veneer.

This happens allllll the time, honey. Use a new or sharp razor every time (apparently, if you run a disposable razor the opposite way against your jeans it’ll ‘sharpen it’), shave at the end of the shower when the hair is softer and your pores are open, and lather up with a sensitive skin shaving lotion. Aside from that, you can either wax, use an electric razor, I think there’s sensitive Nair, and someone even mentioned a sugar scrub thingy. Above all, choose what you want to do. It’s your body.

Started my day with 20 crunches and 10 push ups. After that, I ate some gingerbread and a peach. And now I feel like I can handle the whole world!

Teens’ Unhealthy Eating Behaviors Continue into Adulthood:

Teens who engage in unhealthy and excessive weight control behaviors — such as binge eating— continue doing so into young adulthood and beyond, according to a study conducted by University of Minnesota researchers.

“The findings from the current study argue for early and ongoing efforts aimed at the prevention, early identification, and treatment of disordered eating behaviors in young people,” commented lead investigator Dianne Neumark-Sztainer, Ph.D., M.P.H., R.D.

Researchers examined the records for 1,030 young men and 1,257 young women using data from Project EAT-III (Eating and Activity in Teens and Young Adults), a 10-year longitudinal study developed to examine eating, activity, and weight-related factors among young people. Subjects were largely between 13 and 16 years old at the beginning of the study, and 23 to 26 years old when it ended.

Participants answered questions about dieting, extreme weight control methods such as fasting, using food replacements and skipping meals, and out-of-control binge eating. Data concerning socioeconomic, gender, age, and race/ethnicity factors was also included.

Approximately half of the females reported dieting in the past year compared to about one-fourth of the males. The occurrence of dieting stayed fairly consistent from adolescence through young adulthood for females in both age groups. Among males, the prevalence of dieting remained constant over time in the younger age group, but increased in the older group as they aged from middle adolescence to middle young adulthood.

In the younger females, unhealthy weight control behaviors remained constant from early adolescence to early young adulthood.

Among older females, these behaviors decreased significantly from middle adolescence to middle young adulthood, but still remained very high (60.7 percent compared to 54.4 percent).

Approximately one-third of males reported unhealthy weight control behaviors, which stayed fairly constant over the study period in both age groups.

For extreme behaviors, there was a significant increase from adolescence to young adulthood in females for both age groups and for the older male group. Among females, the use of extreme weight control behaviors increased from 8.4 to 20.4 percent between early adolescence and early young adulthood and from 12.6 to 20.6 percent between middle adolescence and middle young adulthood.

For the older males, extreme weight control behaviors increased from 2.1 percent in middle adolescence to 7.3 percent in middle young adulthood.

The results reveal that these potentially harmful eating control behaviors are not just a phase that adolescents experience, but instead may indicate that early dieting and disordered eating behaviors may set the stage for continued use of these methods in later life.

“Within clinical practices, dietitians and other health care providers should be asking about the use of these behaviors prior to adolescence, throughout adolescence, and into young adulthood,” noted the researchers.

“Given the growing concern about obesity, it is important to let young people know that dieting and disordered eating behaviors can be counterproductive to weight management. Young people concerned about their weight should be provided with support for healthful eating and physical activity behaviors that can be implemented on a long-term basis, and should be steered away from the use of unhealthy weight control practices.”

The study is published in the July 2011 issue of the Journal of the American Dietetic Association.

Trained cancer killer

Medicine harnesses the might of the immune system defeat prostate cancer
Doctors have been trying to enlist the immune system of patients in the battle against cancer since at least 1893, when physician William Coley of New York Cancer Hospital injected bacteria into a patient’s body in the hopes that it would spur the immune system to fight the bacterial infection and cancer cells alike. The tumor disappeared, and the patient lived for another 26 years. But immunotherapy was eclipsed by radiation and chemotherapy, which showed more-immediate and reproducible results.
Last April, Provenge became the first FDA-approved treatment that retrains the immune system to target cancer. Scientists have tested it only on subjects already near death, in this case men whose tumors had spread beyond their prostate. Those who took Provenge lived an average of 4.1 months longer than those who didn’t. Now researchers at Dendreon, which manufactures Provenge, are looking into whether it can stop the cancer from spreading beyond the prostate. If that can be done, says Paul Schellhammer, a urologist at Eastern Virginia Medical School who studied Provenge in clinical trials, the patient will usually survive.

Joining a Gym

before you start any strenuous exercise make sure with your doctor that this is OK for you. You don’t want to hurt yourself or make yourself sick. For some people a brisk walk every day is enough.

If you have a certain exercise you love then by all means indulge this. If you love to dance, find a gym that offers dance classes! If you love to swim, make sure you join a gym with a pool. Exercise if by no means all about lifting weights. If you are looking for a gym with a pool be prepared to pay a bit more for a membership than a gym with out.

You also want to make sure you feel safe at this gym. It should give you an atmosphere where you don’t feel embarrassed or like you are gonna catch something funky from the locker rooms.

Finally you want to look at cost. Some places are very expensive while others are fairly cheap. The price can and will dictate the clients and what will be available for you to use. Some gyms offer discounts to certain groups of people, students with IDs, certain corporates, disabilities, etc. Always check to see if you can get a discount. This can knock a good 100$ off your year in some cases.

When you go to join a gym keep all these things in mind and don’t be afraid to shop around. A lot of gyms will give you a free trial day to see if you like it or not. Good luck everyone!

Fun Fitness Fact of the Day: Your body is built in the kitchen! Always remember that and make healthy choices. Here is a great article on the subject: http://natemiyaki.com/2011/03/24/the-8020-rule-of-fitness-nutrition/

I read this amazing article about the impact of nutritional habits on our body… a great Read.

here goes:

The 80/20 Rule of Fitness Nutrition

Posted on  by natemiyaki

If you retain only one piece of information from my articles, I hope that it is this: your nutritional habits will have a far greater impact on your body composition and physique goals than any other fitness component.

Step back from the fitness industry, pop culture, or scientific debates and think about it logically for just a second. Lets say you perform 4 weight training sessions and 5 cardio sessions a week – a typical fitness protocol. That’s a total of 9 training sessions per week. That’s 9 chances to make a difference and change your body in a positive way.

Now, lets also say you eat 3 square meals a day. Better yet, as a fitness athlete you know about the advantages of meal spacing and eat 5 meals/snacks a day. That’s 21-35 opportunities a week to directly impact your muscle building and fat burning goals.

A common question in the fitness industry is, “what percentage of my physique enhancement goals will be a result of exercise, and what percentage will be a result of my diet?” Common answers are something like, “Well, they are both important. You can’t really assign percentages” or “training is 100%, diet is 100%”. But that doesn’t really give novice trainees an accurate depiction of the bigger picture. And in the big picture, diet will always have a bigger impact than training.

In our above example of 9 training sessions and 35 meals/snacks geared toward body composition improvement a week, that works out to about 20% accounted to physical activity and 80% accounted to diet. I’d say that’s a pretty accurate assessment of the physique enhancement process. If you want to look good, 80% of your results are determined by the food that you eat.

This is an article about fitness nutrition, not statistics, so lets leave the numbers behind and look at some real world examples. If you look around your gym, you’ve probably noticed some regulars that have been there day-in and day-out for months, or even years, but look exactly the same. All that time and effort with no results to show for it. What’s up with that? The answer is diet, or lack thereof.

Another good example is professional NFL offensive lineman. These guys are pro athletes that perform vigorous training protocols on a daily basis. They are big, strong, and could certainly throw me a severe beating. But most of them have a little jiggle with their wiggle, a large percentage of them are obese. How can this be? Again, the answer is poor, or no nutritional strategy.

Conversely, when you hear tales of dramatic weight loss or great body transformations, diet/nutrition is always at the forefront of the discussion. “How did you lose the weight?” friends will ask. “Oh, I went on such and such diet” or “I read this or that nutrition book.” People can make drastic changes in their physique with diet alone. Remember Jared from Subway (yeah I know he’s getting paid to say that, but you get my point).

The moral of the story is you can’t change your body just by exercising. As a matter of fact, I’d say you are wasting your time in the gym until you clean up your diet and implement a sound fitness nutrition protocol. It would be nice if we could work off last night’s junk meal with some extra cardio. Despite what some trainers would have you believe, it just doesn’t work that way.

When you are about to cheat and eat that slice of pizza or bowl of ice cream, remember the Fitness Nutrition 80:20 rule. What goes into your mouth accounts for 80% of how you look.

My problems with my shoes are gone - I just had to figure out how to wear them (if that makes any sense).

Also, AG, that’s awesome! I’ve noticed most of my cravings are gone as well. Especially from not having soda for awhile.

BIG UPDATE: I went to a Charity event yesterday at Wing Chun place near me. Wing Chun is that kung fu I was telling you that my friend just got into. I signed up, completely forgetting that I was starting a new job this week. BUT! It does seem to be a great workout and it’s useful because it’s all self-defense techniques and real-life situations and stuff like that. Plus the instructors are really cute. I couldn’t pass up the chance.

So, I’m starting work today and I’m going to see my schedule and I’m going to try and balance Wing Chun and the job. I probably will have to call the cute instructors and tell them I can’t make it three times a week.

We’ll see. I’ll keep you updated!

Oh! And I started running the lake. I’m not to a 3 minute run, but so far I think I’m doing pretty well and I feel a lot more worked out when I finish.

It’s raining a lot here, so my real problem is trying to stay dry. hahaha

BH

So, I’ve been a vegan for about a month now and a vegetarian for almost a year (3 months shy). Although, I feel like I cheated because I was a pescatarian in the beginning…I’m not going to be too hard on myself because I am what I am now and the past is the past.

The best part about being vegan is that not only do I feel good, I look good. I have lost 10 lbs and it’s so much easier to pass everything through. I know that’s a bit personal but, hey, it’s natural!

So, I just wanted to update you guys on what’s going on because I haven’t been on for awhile.

Now, I’m gonna enjoy my vacation :) My sister, best friend, and I are in Maine with my family and it’s the most beautiful place in the world.

  • i slept in rather than practice yoga this morning, but that’s okay because i did 4 days this week and that was my goal!
  • 3.5 miles this afternoon, then maybe a teeny bit of ab/upper body work if i’m feeling up to it.
  • the high is near 100 so i’ll probably get outside early and read/swim/lament buying my new bathing suit bottoms in the wrong size then losing the receipt
  • i just found out that my mom is making nothing that i can eat for dinner so i have to figure out what the hell to make for myself

i also really want to watch love and other drugs. but i’ve heard that it’s not appropriate to watch with parents…but i don’t want to offend them by hoarding it alone in my room. then again, my parents watched misfits with me and just looked past the sexy parts and “it’s that british show about superhero teenagers” to them.

So, I need to work out. I haven’t done anything for 2 days. But i’m REALLY lazy. Like, my body is just lazy. Mentally, I want to go work out. But I can’t. I’m like, too tired. :P aany tips pr something to help me?

it makes me feel a bit excited when I see the instruments, machines and techniques that the doctors use to run tests to see what poisons were in a patient’s body, etc… just because that biotechnology tech program basically drilled those type of things into my head for 2 years, and now I feel accomplished that I can recognize what their doing, how their doing it, why and what it will do to help them. :)

*feeling nerdy.

little trick I use and it works GREAT for summer and really hydrating and healthy for your skin.

go to the store: target walmart, walgreens etc. find the baby section find “baby oil GEL” MAKE SURE YOU GET THE GEL and not just the oil.

After showering stand in the shower naked with the water still dripping off your body (wipe your FACE with the towel only- this will prevent your face from getting oily)

squirt some of the gel in your hand and rub it in. lightly “comb” (fingers spread dragging lightly your hands over you) your body (legs arms stomach back butt) you may need a couple squirts of the gel to cover your whole body. Be careful not to over do the gel on your body. once you have a thin layer rub it in everywhere MAKE SURE YOUR BODY IS STILL WET FROM THE SHOWER THIS WILL HELP IT TO NOT BE SO THICK. rub in then dry off with your towel again this will make sure the oil isn’t so heavy on your skin. your done! oiled and sexy and shimmery. I do this twice a week just for good skin conditioning this is great if you are planning on wearing cute summer shorts or dresses and want your legs lookin’ FINE!

I can’t believe I did it! I’ve crossed another difficult milestone and now I’m 5 lbs away from my high school weight (which was 5 years ago).

Hard work + dedication = success and results. (Taken with picplz.)

The best way to start it off is by running. No more “I’ll go tomorrow” no more “later” it’s all about now!

I see this as a representation on how I will live my next year of life.  :)

Cheers to a healthy lifestyle!

Feeling down? Go catch some rays.

Vitamin D3, which is found most abundantly in sunlight, boosts your brain’s levels of Seratonin and Dopamine, chemicals that are proven to boost your mood. Scientists say that spending 30 minutes in the sun early in the day significantly reduces mood swings and reverses negative emotions. Sun therapy is the choice of many holistic psychologists when treating patients with depression.

I feel disgustingggggg

I ate like, four slices of white bread because I was in one of my bread-withdrawal moods (do y’all ever get those…?). And now my body feels horrible. I foresee some quality time with my toilet bowl tonight.

Why do I do such stupid things?

To never make up another lame excuse as to why I can’t go to the beach with my friends..

Never again.

what a long day i have ahead of me today. at least i started my day off right and went running. i didn’t really have to BRING myself to do it, the rain just makes me sleepy. my run was very nice. it wasn’t really a work out, more like leisure running. i’m surprised it only took me 15 minutes to do my entire route, which means i should probably step it up and do it twice, or find somewhere else to run. i want to be in better shape and in order to do so, i need to start pushing myself a little harder.

another thing. I don’t understand why people sign up for gym memberships..? unless you live in the city where you’re fearing that you’re going to be kidnapped if you go outside, i don’t understand why you wouldn’t just run down your street (with your dog) or at a park or something. Night time is a different story. 24 hour gyms are convenient i guess if you work late and need something to do before you go to bed. i don’t fucking know.

Antibiotic resistance has finally made its way onto the Senate radar again and with good reason considering that we’ve seen antibiotic resistance across British farms and this year in US hospitals and nursing homes to name just a few. It’s a problem that’s only getting worse with the expanded overuse of antibiotics. It’s this practice that a Senate bill is looking to limit with the re-introduction of The Preservation of Antibiotics for Medical Treatment Act (PAMTA).

According to Diane Feinstein (D-CA), the primary sponsor for PAMTA, reported on Civil Eats. “[t]he effectiveness of antibiotics for humans is jeopardized when they are used to fatten healthy pigs or speed the growth of chickens. This is a basic food safety initiative that would phase out the misuse of these drugs so that food in supermarkets across America will not spread strains of drug-resistant bacteria.”

According to the FDA, 80 percent of the antibiotics produced in this country are used in animal agriculture. This amount is estimated to be more than four times the amount of drugs used to treat human illness.

The bill, which Senators Susan Collins (R-ME), Jack Reed (D-RI), and Barbara Boxer (D-CA), all have worked together on was outlined by Civil Eats and does the following:

  • Phases out the non-therapeutic use of medically important antibiotics in livestock;
  • Requires new applications for animal antibiotics to demonstrate the use of the antibiotic will not endanger public health;
  • Does not restrict the use of antibiotics to treat sick livestock or to treat pets.

This needs to happen…

The back issues resurface when I lay down, meaning (since I toss and turn a lot during the night) every time I move I wake up.

Also, the problem where my thumb falls asleep and then hurts like a motherfucker is still happening.

Basically, every hour or so that I try to sleep, I get jerked awake by a charlie horse in my hand and a stabbing pain in my right hip.

I AM TWENTY-TWO THIS SHOULD NOT BE HAPPENING TO ME

inspiration to get healthy though. I bet this would be better if I was in better shape.  The back thing at least.  Not sure about the thumb.

My first purchase from gnc, how exciting! Oh wait, I lied. I got...

I unintentionally gave myself a big boost yesterday!

I started off pretty bad I ate like 4 servings worth of chicken stir fry & brown rice for lunch (it just tasted so good)

Ate 35g of chocolate - see I thought it was good because it was sugar-free, gluten free and dairy free… but it still had the normal amount of carbs and fat :(

And 2 cinnamon donuts - just cos they’re awesome

ALL FOR LUNCH!

I was kinda perturbed by my behaviour so I decided to head to the gym, the main class I wanted to do was yoga at 6:30… and then I thought, maybe I should do the spin class before it at 5:45 as well cos I ate so much… but then I’d have to drive there during peak hour… then I thought screw it

Swimming: 3:00 - 3:45

Walking/Elliptical/Weights: 4:30 - 5:45

Spin class: 5:45 - 6:30

Yoga: 6:30 - 7:30 - don’t be fooled, this was not a relaxing yoga class, it’s really intense! The teacher is so mean ;-;

So that was like… 4 hours of exercise?? I was absolutely exhausted when I came home and was too tired to eat… just crawled into bed and zzzzz

It was definitely a fun day to do once in a while when I have nothing to do in the holidays and though I don’t see a dramatic change in my body (did you see how much food I ate), I certainly feel more toned! :)

Its the push I needed to get started and today I was much healthier!

Breakfast: oatbran pancakes with raisins

Morning snack: Mandarin with 5 almonds

Lunch: Canned tuna and 1 piece of wholemeal toast

Afternoon snack: Sushi - like 3 or 4 rolls equivalent cos that lunch wasn’t really lunch and half a dragonfruit

Dinner: brown rice and vegetable stir fry

Dessert: I plan to have strawberry yoghurt and resist those donuts staring at me!!

Oh and the exercise I did today was 1 hour body balance class, 5 minutes on the elliptical and might sneak in some 30 minute shred later

At the moment I’m having really awful problems with my hands. I have eczema that comes and goes generally dependent on the time of year and how stressed I am. When I get more stressed the eczema gets angry…

Over the past 4 weeks I’ve had this rash on my fingers and around my knuckles & wrists. It’s eczema in places but in other places it just looks like angry red, tiny bumps under my skin. Sometimes it gets so angry my skin breaks.

Anyway. I think I’ve figured out the problem. I changed my washing-up liquid to a cheap, own-brand version about a month ago. So this morning I went out to by premium stuff and bought some marigolds to be super protective about my hands. I have a million different creams and am trying to avoid steroid cream for now, so hopefully this’ll help clear it up.

Fuck skin conditions, though. They suck. :(

My first purchase from gnc, how exciting! Oh wait, I lied. I got biotin pills once before. But this was a bigger purchase, and a lot more fun!

I take the be-wholesome every morning. It’s got everything you need but, damn, 8 pills is a lot. And they aren’t small, either. They really are a pain in the ass to take, I must say. But I feel like it’s a small price to pay for getting everything you need. Maybe I’m just a wimp when it comes to taking pills?

I take the be-hot  about 45 minutes before I work out and damn. These work. They give me so much energy to keep working out. It’s amazing.

I got the bath salts for free with the purchase and I love to take a bath and stretch out sore muscles before bed. I haven’t tried them yet, but I’m sure they’ll be just as nice as any other brand.

ah… i love my awesome ipod camera :)

WTH! How does this happen!?! A Russian woman died from a heart attack brought on by the shock of waking up at her own funeral. (yeh, that would do it for me lol!)

49 year old Fagilyu Mukhametzyanov was mistakenly pronounced dead by doctors, but she woke up later in a coffin surrounded by crying relatives. She started screaming after realizing she was about to be buried alive.

Mukhametzyanov was rushed back to the hospital where she was declared dead AGAIN, but this time for real. Her husband, Fagili Mukhametzyanov, was terrified saying, “Her eyes fluttered and we immediately rushed her back to the hospital but she only lived for another 12 minutes.”

He has plans to sue the hospital. “I am very angry and want answers. She wasn’t dead when they said she was and they could have saved her.” A spokesman at the hospital said officials were investigating. I bet they are…

II.

After waking up and feeling already more sore than I previously wrote about, i’ll be honest as to say that I didn’t think today was going to happen as for my yoga class. But, against my previously known patterns, I went. And it felt wonderful. Sure, at the beginning I could feel the work I did yesterday as I went through the flow sequence but with each breath I took, it came to a point in the middle where I was in cobra and the flush of endorphins and blood rushing freely through my veins hit. As food went, my best friend and I, along with her boy, went to a vegetarian/vegan restaurant in Alphabet City. Vegan Hot Buffalo Burger, uh yes please and thank you. After we went to a vegan ice cream place that just made tonight full of delicious vegan food. Tomorrow I’m sticking to completely unprocessed and fresh fruits and vegetables sans any treats but I can’t say tonight’s delicacies weren’t so worth it. I’m truly doing my best as to not focus on my single state in a negative mindset but I must confess it’s not easy when around and hearing of couples constantly. I know i’m not ready to be in a committed relationship because i’m not at the point where I love myself enough to be able to accept another feeling so themselves towards me but seeing it, being the third wheel… it’s hard. But i’ll smile through it because I know i’ll get there and it’ll be worth this wait period. I’m not looking nor waiting for just anyone. Now, it’s time for me to go to bed seeing as i’m waking up at 6AM for a 7AM yoga class. Good night lovely.

N and I like to go to museums.  When we get home we always complain about having “museum feet” because we stood all day and walked in small spurts.

Since I’m supposed to avoid activities that hurt or bother my hip, I’ve been standing almost all day all week.  Museum feet has become my new normal.  My heels ache by the end of the day.  I would love to just sit down on a nice comfy chair and read.

I’ve noticed some funny things while standing.  Mijo fell asleep in the car yesterday, so I stood outside of the car and watched as people tried to figure out why I was reading a book with my door open.  At dinner, when everyone is sitting around and talking, I will stand up behind my chair and keep talking.

Supposedly, we (humans) were not meant to sit most of the day.  It’s only in the last few generations that we began to sit all day.  Sitting has gotten press for being bad for our health.  So technically standing should lead to some long term benefits for me.

When I first thought about doing my work standing it seemed foreign to me, but after looking it up a bit, it seems to have growing interest (or perhaps this is just proof that you can find groups of people interested in anything online).  According to the article, Philip Roth and Donald Rumsfeld both stand up to work.

So what do you think?  Can you imagine standing up all day to work?  Do you know someone that does?  Or do you already do so?

I think I’m going to have to work on coming up with different strategies to keep myself active while standing to work (e.g. stand on one foot, then the other, walk in place).  I also need to invest in a stand-up desk so that it is at the right level.  Ah, my new normal is going to take some adjusting.

The New England Journal of Medicine has conducted a study that suggests that eating potato chips might be directly related to obesity.

By analyzing the eating and exercise habits of 120,877 people over many years, doctors have concluded that downing a whole bag of potato chips makes you fat faster than just about anything else, ice cream and soda included.

Also in the study, we learn that on average, people who quit smoking gain five pounds every four years after quitting. Commenting on the study, obesity expert Dr. F. Xavier Pi-Sunyer said, “[potato chips are] very tasty and have a very good texture. People generally don’t take one or two chips. They have a whole bag.”

Just for shits and giggles, here FDA Commissioner’s advice: “Just eat a God damned vegetable.” Thanks to The Onion for that.

At the rate I’m losing weight I’m beginning to suspect I have some kind of parasite slowly killing me. This kind of weight loss is not in any way natural.

If I do in fact have worms I’ll be the proud father of parasitic children!

So I was a little late updating today and I am updating from my phone right now. Anyway, this morning I had a small bowl of Special K cereal with Red Berries (my favourite!)

Lunch was 4 delicious Morning Star Chik’n Nuggets and a small salad on the side with Brianna’s Honey Dijon Mustard.

Had a little snack of a sharp cheddar cheese stick.

Dinner was some delicious Tomato and Basil soup.

I made some chocolate chip cookies for a friend so of course I snuck in a little bite of the dough. Just a little on though! I also had a beer tonight.

Anyway, I will be better tomorrow!

I feel like im just going to put total cals from now own- total for today- 1285 :)

And bootcamp work out for outtake. It was so rough today I was so slow because I was tired and sore. But tommorrow is a new day AND since im going out after work I really am hoping to get to the gym in the morning. Its funny I can wake up for 6 am bootcamp but I cant get to the gym at 7 am.

Kinda nervous for this weekend, I usually binge eat when I drink so my plan is eat healthy all day, drink slow, and focus on not doing that. Also I will try to not drink as much since well its horrible for weight loss, but its one of my best friends birthdays tommorrow night then the next night is another best friends house warming party an hour away.

Will let you all know how it goes, mabye I can find a healthy way for this weekend!

Have you really tried today?

Okay, so I’ve decided I really need to re-arrange my lifestyle. I’ve haven’t been treating myself kindly lately, and am consumed by only negative thoughts of my well-being. Due to these persistent, harmful internal focuses, I’m going to try to alter aspects of my life to, hopefully, over time, benefit my perspective of myself.

Beginning changes:

·         Diet

·         Sleeping habits

·         Physical exercise

I think focusing on only 3 unhealthy behaviours in my life at the moment will allow me to put all my efforts into these factors without feeling overwhelmed. Working on these unhealthy factors in my life will take some time, so initially; I’m going to be working rather slowly.

Although, I am worried about my motivation but doing health science courses at uni have helped me realise that rewards really aid in continuing a changed behaviour. Instead of rewarding myself with unhealthy foods (as I usually do), every couple of weeks or so, if I persist in my behaviour changes, I could buy myself something small, such as a bracelet or a ring. It’s not much but I think that will help my enthusiasm and determination.

What are SideEffects and recovery from a lumbar puncture, spinal tap http://bit.ly/czJbjR health

For the average person happiness is a choice, yet numerous people are unhappy.  There are many reasons, but it all boils down to one simple principle:  They choose something else over happiness.  Because it often takes less effort to be unhappy.

For example, instead of seeking happiness, they…

  • Lazily follow the path of least resistance.
  • Refuse to accept change.
  • Aimlessly try to control the uncontrollable.
  • Etc. etc. etc.

Averting these poor choices and the negative attitudes that accompany them is the key.  The list below will give you some ideas on how to do just that.

Most people are about as happy as they make up their minds to be.
- Abraham Lincoln

1.  Lack of meaning in one’s day to day life.

Franklin D. Roosevelt once said, “Happiness is not in the mere possession of money; it lies in the joy of achievement, in the thrill of creative effort.”  With the modern 9 to 5 work schedule it’s so easy to trap yourself into doing what you don’t want to do for 40 hours every week and then mindlessly waste all your free time being lazy.

Sure you have responsibilities.  And no, you won’t be able to do what you want to do every waking minute of your life.  But you almost always have a choice to do more of what you really want to do – to work on something that matters to you – something that moves you and gives your life meaning.

You must leave time to follow your inner curiosity and passion.

2.  Obsession with the past or future.

Right now is life.  If you dwell on things that happened in the past, or obsess yourself too much with the things that might happen in the future, you’ll miss everything.

Focus on the present, not yesterday or tomorrow.  As Helen Keller once said, “When one door of happiness closes, another opens, but often we look so long at the closed door that we do not see the one that has been opened for us.”

Oftentimes we fixate our minds on the way things can be, should be, or will be someday.  But life always takes place in the present.  You never know what the future holds – whether or not you and your loved ones will still have good health or even be alive.  The opportunity to enjoy life is now.  Make time to do so.

3.  Feeling out of shape and unhealthy.

Remember, your health is your life, and your body is the greatest tool you’ll ever own.

If you are a little overweight, cut back on some of the fatty foods, get outside and take a two mile walk every day.  Losing extra body fat decreases your health risks, makes you look and feel better, and generally increases your self-esteem and happiness.

Don’t go on binge diets and crash exercise regimens.  Instead, gradually change the way you eat and live so you create new health habits that can be sustained for a lifetime.

4.  Unfavorably comparing oneself to others.

When you catch yourself comparing yourself to a colleague, neighbor, friend, or someone famous, stop!  Realize that you are different, with different strengths – strengths these other people don’t possess.  Take a moment to reflect on all the awesome abilities you have and to be grateful for all the good things in your life.

The problem with many of us is that we think we’ll be happy when we reach a certain level in life — a level we see others operating at – your boss with her corner office, that friend of a friend who owns a mansion on the beach, etc.  Unfortunately, it takes awhile before you get there, and when you get there, you might have a new destination in mind.

Instead, appreciate where you are and what you have right now.  Try comparing yourself to those who have less, those who are dealing with tragedy, and those who are struggling to survive. Hopefully it opens your eyes to all the things you should be grateful for.  PS:  Help people who have less if you’re able… you’ll see why.

5.  Focusing on negatives.

You can’t control everything that happens to you, but you can control how you react to things.  Everyone’s life has positive and negative aspects — whether you’re happy or not depends greatly on which aspects you focus on.  For instance:

  • Did you get catch a head cold?  At least it’s only a temporary virus and nothing life-threatening.
  • Did you lose a basketball game?  Thankfully you got to spend the afternoon with friends doing something fun and healthy.
  • Did your stock market savings go down?  It’ll bounce back in the long-term.  And besides, it’s great that you’ve been diligent and fortunate enough to save a nest egg of savings when many people are barely making ends meet.

You get the idea — almost everything in life has a positive side, and focusing on these positives injects happiness into your atmosphere.  So stop concentrating on how difficult things are and why you don’t want to do them.  Focus instead on the benefits these things have and the opportunities they will create for you — the positives.

6.  Avoiding personal accountability.

Either you take accountability for your life or someone else will.  And when they do, you’ll become a slave to their ideas and dreams instead of a pioneer of your own.

You are the only one who can directly control the outcome of your life.  And no, it won’t always be easy.  Every person has a stack of obstacles in front of them.  You must take accountability for your situation and overcome these obstacles.  Choosing not to is choosing a lifetime of mere existence.

7.  Perfectionism and fear of failure.

If you work hard, do your best and then condemn yourself for not achieving perfection, you’re sabotaging your future.  Likewise, if your fear of failure, or of not being perfect, has driven you to take the safe road of doing nothing, you have already failed.

Perfect is the enemy of good.  Learn to accept the good – learn to love things when they are less than ‘perfect.’

If you find yourself at a point of intense decision making where you’re caught in a spiral of over-analysis and you’re making no progress, take a deep breath, break the spiral, make an educated guess on the next logical step, and take it.  Even if you get it wrong you’ve learned something, which is better than doing nothing.  Your failures along the road to your goals are simply opportunities to learn and grow.

Remember, the real world doesn’t reward perfectionists; it rewards people who get things done.

8.  A low self-esteem.

Don’t belittle yourself and don’t put up with people who try to belittle you.

Marcus Aurelius once said, “Very little is needed to make a happy life; it is all within yourself, in your way of thinking.”  Boost your self-esteem by recognizing your accomplishments and celebrating them.  Acknowledge your positive qualities, and when you come across a quality in yourself that you aren’t proud of, don’t sulk in your sorrows, proactively work on correcting it.
How you view yourself and your world are conscious choices and habits.  The lens you choose to view everything through determines how you feel about yourself and everything that happens around you.

9.  Financial debt.

The only way to get out of debt is to understand why you’re in debt in the first place.

But the sad truth is, if you’re a spendthrift…

You will not save money when you get your next raise.  You will not save money when your car is paid off.  You will not save money when your kids are supporting themselves someday.  And you wouldn’t even save a dime if I handed you $100,000 in cash right now.

How do I know this?

Because saving money has very little to do with the amount of money you have.  In fact, you will only start to save money when saving becomes an emotional habit – when you start treating the money you handle everyday differently.

In general, live a comfortable life, not a wasteful one.  Do not spend to impress others.  Do not live life trying to fool yourself into thinking wealth is measured in material objects.  Manage your money wisely so your money does not manage you.  Always live well below your means.

10.  All work and no play.

Fun is way underrated.  With all of our responsibilities, fun seems like an indulgence.  It shouldn’t be.  It should be a requirement.  Ponder what you did to have fun when you were younger and go do it again.  Leave the house messy and the yard un-mowed for a weekend and get out on the town.  When you’re older, you will remember the fun, not the clean house or yard.

Go to a carnival, play a card game, shoot darts with a friend, play catch with a kid, etc.

Make time for fun!

11.  Neglecting personal relationships.

The quality of our personal relationships correlates directly with our overall sense of worth and happiness.  Sometimes in the midst of life’s chaos we forget to do the little things that remind us we’re part of something greater than ourselves.  We need a certain amount of meaningful contact with other people to feel fully alive.

Make time for people, even if it’s just a quick meal at lunchtime.  It’s worth sacrificing a few minutes here and there to experience life outside your own inner bubble.

And remember, you don’t need a certain number of friends, just a number of friends you can be certain of.

12.  Procrastination.

Nothing is so draining and stressful as the eternal presence of an unfinished task.

There are plenty of ways to sabotage your personal happiness, dreams and desires.  Procrastination, however, is the number one killer.  Procrastinators self-destruct.  They hinder their own potential by placing colossal road-blocks along the path to happiness and success.  In other words, they subconsciously choose to fail.

Do you put off doing things that would bring you closer to your desired goals?  I know I do at times.  But why are we so foolish?

It has something to do with how our daily responsibilities overwhelm us.  In the midst of all the important things we know we need to do, we somehow convince ourselves that none of these things need to be done right now.  In other words, we decide that some peace and relaxation in the short term is what’s most important.

So we take another break, read another blog post, watch another TV show and just kick back and relax.  And life is blissfully dandy… for a little while.  But then suddenly the inevitable deadline has arrived.  Ahhh!  It’s panic time!

By taking the time and initiative to understand your own reasons for procrastinating and devoting a little energy to take the necessary steps to move forward, you can beat procrastination.  We all can.  In fact, simply writing this article was a testament to this.  I kept procrastinating on writing it because I lacked focus.  So I locked myself in my bedroom, eliminated all distractions, kept the end in mind and started writing.  And as usual, starting was the hardest part.  Now I’m done.

Please keep me in your prayers this week as I was just notified by the hospital that a mass was found in one of my lungs. I am awaiting a CT scan in order to find out whether or not the mass in cancerous. I am hopeful, but so scared.

this (thursday) evening, the ONE campaign is premiering their movie “vodoo and vaccines in benin, africa” via facebook. the movie can be viewed at 20:00 (CET) through this facebook app (corresponding fb event).

the movie is about current medical practices in benin that bring together traditional healers and modern doctors to give children access to life-saving vaccines.

the interesting part is that they decided to do this via facebook instead of just launching a website at a certain time, or a video on youtube/vimeo. i wonder who’s consulting them.

Tesco mistake leads to beer rush

An error which slashed the price of beer and cider led to a stampede of customers at a number of Tesco supermarkets in Scotland.

A deal offering three boxes of various alcoholic drinks for £20 was going through the tills at three for £11.

Police were called to Tesco in Greenock after heavy congestion was reported in the car park as customers rushed to get the deal…

News of the error spread quickly from about 1900 BST, with many people posting messages on social networking sites…

One customer said the situation was “bedlam” as people phoned their friends and some went home to change clothing to come back and buy more beer.

Sometimes you need a little motivation for exercise.  Maybe you workout with someone else or in a group (I highly suggest either one), or maybe some good music gets you motivated.  Whatever it is find what works for you, and use it often!  I am motivated by the feeling I get immediately following a workout… when you are tired, breathing heavy and you have all those endorphins rushing through your body!  Great feeling.

I would like to give a little advice to those who are beginning to workout.  Don’t look at exercise like some daunting task, or something that can’t be fun.  You should over time come to enjoy working out…it might take time, practice and more practice but you will get into a routine and start to enjoy it.  Be patient, and sometimes find an activity that you enjoy.  Swimming, sand volleyball, skiing, hiking…anything that involves physical activity that you can enjoy is a great way to incorporate a that word “fit” into your lifestyle.

Celebrities Who Quit Smoking and Their Stories

I hear people say all the time that they want to get in shape but they just don’t have the time or the money. To that i say: stop making excuses.
Exercise is free, and there are 24 useful hours in every day.

No one ever said that the only way to exercise is to join a gym. Why don’t you dance around the house once in a while? Park as far away as possible and walk to work? Take the stairs? Or if you have children play actively with them. Make excuses to move, rather than excuses not to. Watching TV at home? What’s stopping you from doing sit ups and squats in the add breaks? Only you are. Stop making those excuses and change your life.

I can 100% guarantee you that someone busier than you is out running right now, and someone poorer than you is out there making use of the parks and play equipment to build on their fitness. They know how much health matters, so they are making it a priority.

This being said, if there is a financial and time investment to be made it should be on your health and fitness. You’ll feel better, have a higher immunity (save $$$ on doctors’ appointments), have a better outlook on life, and you’ll notice you had more time than you thought.

I’ve had enough of excuses, I’m boycotting them. I’ll be busier, but ill achieve so much more. There’s really nothing to lose.

Today you can say you will do it tomorrow, but tell me: What’s wrong with today? Don’t say you’ve got no time because i don’t believe you.

5. Berries

Most are loaded with fiber, every dieter’s best friend. The more fiber you eat — experts say that it’s best to get between 25 and 35 grams every day — the fewer calories you absorb from all the other stuff you put in your mouth. That’s because fiber traps food particles and shuttles them out of your system before they’re fully digested. Berries (and other fruits) are also high in antioxidants, which not only help protect you from chronic diseases like cancer but may also help you get more results from your workouts. “Antioxidants help improve blood flow, which can help muscles contract more efficiently,” says Dr. Katz.

I must say today was a great day filled with double games of basketball and workout. I’m soo exhausted and sore! But that’s a sign of progress. My hands are also sore! I even have bruises on my thumbs. That’s how intense our game was. Oh and I won too! Double the winning!

It feels good to work out and do something active. You know that feeling like you’ve overcome something? That’s exactly how I feel after a good workout. I just need to keep this going for the rest of the summer. If anyone is in for summer get-in-shape plan, we can do this together!

Anyways tonight I had dinner at my great-aunt’s house. If you love Vietnamese food, my family can surely hook you up. I’m serious. However I ate just little bit of everything. Trying to maintain a good diet is hard. Oh and I don’t officially start the Weight Watchers until the 20th. Waiting for my money to roll in so I can sign up for the promotional deal.

Well enough of my rant, time for me to ice my arms and legs! No pain, no gain is my little motto for this summer. Hope you all had a great Saturday!
